The Good
The 2021 CX-9 offers a responsive turbocharged engine for enjoyable performance. Its upscale interior and comfortable seats provide a refined experience. While not the most fuel-efficient, it balances power with reasonable economy. Mazda's reputation for reliability adds peace of mind, and the stylish design appeals to those seeking a family vehicle that doesn't compromise on aesthetics.
The Bad
The 2021 CX-9's third-row seating is somewhat cramped compared to some competitors, making it less ideal for adults on long trips. The infotainment system, while improved, isn't as intuitive as some rivals. Cargo space behind the third row is also limited. Potential buyers should inspect for turbocharger issues and ensure regular oil changes were performed, as these can impact long-term reliability.

What Problems Does the 2021 Mazda CX-9 Have?
- Turbocharger Issues: Some owners have reported turbocharger failures or premature wear, potentially linked to oil sludge build-up. Regular oil changes with high-quality synthetic oil are crucial.
- Infotainment System Glitches: While Mazda updated the infotainment system, some users still report occasional glitches, freezing, or slow response times.
- Paint Quality: Mazda's paint has been noted by some owners to be thinner and more prone to chipping than some competitors.
- Brake Wear: Some owners have observed relatively rapid brake wear, possibly due to the vehicle's weight and driving style.
Recalls for the 2021 model year were generally limited but it's essential to check the NHTSA website for the most up-to-date recall information based on the VIN. Pre-purchase inspections are recommended, particularly checking for turbocharger health and ensuring all scheduled maintenance has been performed. Long-term reliability concerns are relatively minor compared to some competitors, but addressing potential issues early is vital.

Best 3 row suv that’s smooth and comfortableMy first 2021 Mazda CX-9 GT. One of the best 3 row suv out there. Very smooth and comfortable. Worth every buck. Would buy another when the time comes. Can’t wait for the next generation to come out!

NEEDED SECOND CAR, BOUGHT ONE THAT FIT THE BILLMY MAZDA CX9 GRAND TOURING IS A VERY NICE CAR. GAS MILEAGE IS GOOD, THE CAR'S FEATURES ARE GREAT, AND IT IS COMFORTABLE TO DRIVE. I ESPECIALLY LIKE THE "HEADS UP DSIPLAY". HELP ME KEEP CLOSE TO OR AT THE SPEED LIMIT AND THE NAVIGATION DATA DISPLAYED ON IT IS EASIER TO FOLLOW THAN LOOKING AT THE NAV DISPALY ON DASHBOARD.

It’s a 3 row suv that drives like a sports car. It’s beautiful. I have the grand touring and it’s worth every penny. It’s a little more expensive than a lot of 3rd row suvs but it’s worth it because the handling and the gas mileage is so good. It seriously feel like I’m driving a sports car.

Test of CX-9Smart setup for driver. Well crafted and high end materials. Unfortunately the engine is too small, and the ‘cockpit’ felt cramped. I am a taller individual, and went with the Pilot. More space for driver.
