The Good
The 2007 SL-Class delivers strong performance from its various engine options, particularly the AMG models. Its comfortable ride and luxurious interior appeal to those seeking refinement. The retractable hardtop offers versatility. While not the most efficient, its design exudes prestige. Emotionally, it's a status symbol; practically, it's a well-engineered convertible.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses include the complex electro-hydraulic system for the retractable hardtop, which can be prone to leaks and expensive repairs. Air suspension issues are also relatively common. Some electrical gremlins can occur. Maintenance costs, in general, can be high due to the car's complexity and Mercedes-Benz parts pricing.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Have?
Electrical problems, such as sensor failures and issues with the COMAND system, are also reported. These can range from minor inconveniences to more serious problems affecting the car's functionality.
While specific recalls for the 2007 model year may vary depending on region and updates from Mercedes-Benz, it's important to check for any outstanding recalls related to safety or emissions. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website is a valuable resource for recall information.
Long-term reliability concerns generally stem from the aging of the car's components. Rubber seals and hoses can deteriorate, leading to leaks. The engine and transmission, while generally robust, can require more frequent maintenance as they accumulate mileage. Regular servicing and preventative maintenance are crucial to mitigating these issues.
How long will the 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class last?
Long-term durability is generally good for the engine and transmission, but weaknesses emerge in the hydraulic systems (roof, suspension) and electrical components. Corrosion can also become a factor in certain climates. Neglecting maintenance will significantly shorten the vehicle's lifespan and increase repair costs.
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features included stability control, traction control, and anti-lock brakes. Some models may have optional features like Parktronic parking sensors.
Safety features are comprehensive, including multiple airbags, including front, side, and knee airbags. The SL-Class also features a roll bar that automatically deploys in the event of a rollover.
Optional features could include upgraded sound systems, premium leather upholstery, and various trim packages to enhance the interior and exterior appearance.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA for the 2007 SL-Class are somewhat limited. It's crucial to consult these organizations' websites for specific ratings available for that model year. However, Mercedes-Benz has a strong reputation for safety, and the SL-Class was designed with numerous safety features to protect occupants.

2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Prices and Market Value
The SL-Class has depreciated significantly due to its age and higher maintenance costs. Factors affecting resale value include the overall condition, service history, mileage, and whether it's a desirable AMG model. Lower mileage, a clean title, and documented maintenance records increase resale value. AMG models typically hold their value better due to their performance and exclusivity.

How Does the 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Compare to Other Vehicle?
Reliability is where the SL-Class falls short compared to some rivals. The BMW and Porsche tend to be more reliable, with fewer issues related to hydraulic systems and electronics. The Jaguar XK can also have reliability concerns but often to a lesser extent than the SL.
Price-wise, the SL-Class commands a premium both when new and on the used market, reflecting its prestige. However, the higher maintenance costs can offset any initial savings compared to a used Porsche 911 Cabriolet. If reliability is a primary concern, the Porsche 911 Cabriolet is a better alternative. The BMW 6 Series offers a similar blend of luxury and performance with potentially lower long-term costs. The Jaguar XK provides a stylish alternative with a focus on comfort. The choice depends on prioritizing performance, reliability, or styling.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class a Good Vehicle?
Specific trims like the SL550 offer a good balance of performance and comfort, while the AMG models provide exhilarating power but at a higher cost and with increased maintenance demands. Avoid models with a history of neglect or deferred maintenance. If you prioritize long-term reliability and lower running costs, consider alternatives like the Porsche 911 Cabriolet.

Loving My Dream CarAlthough this car is not my everyday car (for that I kept my Toyota Corolla), it is definitely perfect for pleasure! Drop the top and take off. It is definitely luxury. It was very low mileage for a 2007, but very clean -- almost new -- and beautiful! It rides beautifully. Hugs the road and you cannot feel bumps -- so smooth! It does have a lot of power, though, so not for the faint of heart or the youngsters! The sound system is fabulous, too. Have been enjoying driving this more than I could have ever imagined. Cannot imagine ever getting rid of this car -- just wish I would have found it sooner! Actually pretty comfortable, too. Love the dual climate controls and the messaging seats. We are going to be driving it from Virginia to Iowa to visit my family soon and looking forward to the fun and frolic with this little beauty!

Super expensive if something goes wrong.ive always loved the SL series cars. I seriously think I got a lemon or my car simply has a curse. Ive had all of the convertible top hydraulic systems break down. And spill fluid into the cockpit. Fixed that and then the pump in the trunk stopped working. Ive also had to replace the transmission with only 60k miles at a cost of well over 7 THOUSAND DOLLARS! Im now stuck with this car with the money ive put into repairs.

Crazy Fast Personal LuxuryExtremely powerful, but comfortable even at a casual pace. Makes roads seem somehow smoother, even with firm, sporty ride and handling. Amazing car. This is my second one.

Incredibly fast and luxuriousI'm reviewing the SL600 with AMG package. First of all, it is an absolute blast to drive! Incredibly fast and responsive, and handles like a dream. Goes around corners like it's on rails. The handling is precise and it will out "sport" most sports cars, yet the ride is silky smooth. Don't be fooled by the naysayers who complain that it's "too heavy and luxurious". When you push it, it's an absolute rocket ship. Imho it also may be one of the best looking cars ever built, whether the top is up or down. Every line from every angle is sleek and curvy. As far as maintenance goes, just maintain it well and it'll treat you well. If you don't maintain it yourself, find a mechanic who knows the V-12. Stay away from the dealers and from your local mechanic who's not familiar with it. And don't forget to change the hydraulic fluid periodically, contrary to what the Mercedes dealers will tell you.

In Shop almost every other monthThe Transmission would not get into Park. Needed whole gear box changed. The Engine mounts needed to be changed. The washing fluid container started leaking. The break fluid leaked. The trunk stopped opening. The Key deprogrammed suddenly...and so on and so on...and so on....

Very sporty and amazing comfort. SmoothThis car has enough power for me and my wife. Had a 2005 SL but it wasn’t enough power. The 07 has 82 horses more and you can feel the difference. The only thing lacks is the command center... no touch screen and back up camera. It’s not and easy fix because it’s a “Fiber Optic†system which means that it will cost you minimum of $1500.00 to replace. Other than that we love the car!

Beautiful styling, great performance and comfortWe purchased this vehicle from the owner who had it for 11 years. It was meticulously maintained and only has 42,000 miles. I drove it home for over 150 miles. The car was incredibly comfortable and the gas mileage on the highway was about 25 miles per gallon. We are enjoying the car and I can’t wait for the cool months in south Florida to put that top down. I am glad we got this car and I think we will keep it for a long time.

My first SLThis car is stylish, fast, comfortable and solid. I like this car very much but wish I had my 04 XJR back that a deer totaled out. I wish the boot would hold 2 sets of golf clubs, but other than that not much to complain about. Great car in great condition

Beautifully Reliable!I?ve had my SL550 sport (AMG package) for 3 1/2 years now and it brings a smile to my face every single time I fire up that gorgeous engine. Oil and filter changes and one battery change has been it since I have owned this beauty. Drives like a dream and looks stunning albeit being 11, going on 12 years old. I highly recommend this vehicle and hope to have mine into old age!
