The Good
The 2015 SL-Class offered exhilarating performance with potent engines, appealing to emotional buyers. Practical advantages included its comfortable ride, luxurious interior, and relatively reliable Mercedes-Benz engineering (though not flawless). The elegant design and retractable hardtop provided both style and year-round usability. Fuel efficiency, while not exceptional, was reasonable for the performance offered.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2015 SL-Class included the complex retractable hardtop mechanism, which could be prone to issues. Electronic systems could also experience glitches. Some owners reported issues with the air suspension. Maintenance and repairs, especially for AMG models, could be expensive. Check for oil leaks and ensure all features function correctly before purchasing.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2015 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Have?
Electronic glitches, including malfunctions with the COMAND infotainment system, sensors, and driver-assistance features, are also reported. Air suspension problems, particularly with leaks or compressor failures, are another area of concern, especially as the vehicles age.
Specific to the AMG models, the high-performance engines and transmissions can require more frequent and expensive maintenance. Oil leaks can also be a concern in these models. Recalls related to various safety or emissions issues have occurred; it is important to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA database to verify if any recalls are outstanding.
Long-term reliability hinges significantly on proper maintenance. Neglecting scheduled servicing can exacerbate existing issues and lead to premature component failure. Owners should prioritize addressing any warning signs or unusual noises promptly to prevent more significant and costly repairs down the line. While generally reliable for a luxury vehicle, the SL-Class requires diligence in upkeep to avoid expensive problems.

SL 400 Phenomenal blend of sport & luxuryI needed a comfortable cruiser with sport driving capabilities. This car has it all with a manual shift mode and sport suspension setting for driving the mountain roads where I live. I never get fatigued or uncomfortable on long rides due to the excellent seat design, with massage built-in. The six cylinders are what I wanted, didn't need eight. The way it is designed, the torque and bi-turbo let you cruise at low rpm yielding a surprising 27 mpg highway. But it will push you back in your seat when provoked. Final note, the cornering is so flat you would think you're riding in a go-cart.

High Performance Luxury AutomobileThis is the most sophisticated driving machine ever in our fleet of luxury automobiles. The driving performance is exceptional. Style and grace with power and agility packaged in sporty comfort.

The most sophisticated performance car I’ve ownedIt feels, low, wide, and heavy...compared to my Lexus IS250C hardtop convertible. It seems like a highly complex auto-meaning a LOT of wiring & electronics-two batteries-really? I love the comfort and the power...really a beautiful car. As time goes by we’ll see how reliable it is...I have only put about 600 miles on it so far...it started with my ownership at 19,850 miles. It appears to be very well made...down to the ‘screw driven’ seats...I had to really hunt for the auxiliary battery placed behind the passenger side seat...and they had 8 screws holding the cover over the fuse box & battery...not just any screws. 1.25†long threads...in my engineering experience waaaayyyy overkill....I can’t get over what a well made car it seems to be....sorry for Corporate US manufacturers....

float down the roadthis is the 6th MBZ I have owned and I'm not that old. Lol. 3 SLs and 3 350 Es. Love them all but the new SLs takes the cake - stereo system, Amenities, safety features, distance warnings, comfort, technology.... I would recommend over Porsche and I have yet to drive the Audi 8 but it looks a lot more cramped. The only car I have driven that is more fun is the Ferrarri.
