A car is just a tool for the driver. Cars don't determine class, rather it's the driver and his skill that determine class. Fit and Finish? VW isn't bad but I've seen better. The question is, why pay almost 30k for a car like the GTI when there are more competative cars on the market? I see alot of comparisons to the WRX and upon testing these two cars for myself, I found there to be no comparison whatsoever except for price. The WRX has a larger cabin with leather seats, GPS, AWD, and sunroof for less money than the GTI. The WRX's power is immense compared to the GTI. The GTI sounds fast but it's little engine is at best lame. I guess people will pay anything to drive a BADGE.

The GTI is just not worth it. I bought this car thinking it was some kind of revolution in automobile engineering, boy was I wrong. I've been to the dealer countless times for various problems like a bad oxygen sensor, the rear hatch not opening and the radio not picking up any stations. All of this on a car less than six months old! For a so called "refined automobile" this thing is a real piece of junk. Compared to other cars, the GTI is also pretty slow for costing in the mid to upper $20,000. As soon as I have the cash, I'm trading this "well refined" GTI for a MazdaSpeed3. Don't buy the GTI!

Went car shopping for a good performance car with some practicality. I compared the GTI with a Subaru WRX and MazdaSpeed3. Honestly, the 29,000 dollar pricetag for this car is way too high. Maybe if it cost in the high teens to low 20,000 dollars, I might consider it. The GTI is just too sluggish when compared to a MazdaSpeed3 and the GTI was 5,000 dollars more. I then drove the WRX for 30,000 dollars. The WRX completely destroys the GTI in every conceivable category. Not only was the GTI much slower than the WRX, but it couldn't come close to the handling of the WRX either. To top things off, the GTI is smaller than the WRX and doesn't even come with AWD. To me, it's a no-brainer. I bought the WRX. If you want to pretend like you're fast buy the GTI. If you actually want to be fast, buy the WRX or Mazda Speed3

Dont buy

Its junk, been in the shop three times, timing chain tensioner goes out at 80,000 miles, cost me 1000. Then the camshaft crossover or oiler went out another 700.00, then wheel bearings, struts, throttle pedal and more, it gets fixed more than i drive. Im going back to a civic si or another scion frs.

Decent acceleration for a 2.0 4 cylinder.

Met my needs, didn?t purchase it because of the dealership and salesman I worked with. Hands down would have bought it had that not been the situation.

Amazingly versatile and fun

Have owned this car for 6 years now, and found it to be really versatile and fun to drive. Even though it's small on the outside, it can fit stuff almost like an SUV on the inside. We've transported many large items, including a fully assembled grill, a futon, a table... it's also fun to drive and easy to park. Great car for the city.

The Volkswagen GTI will have you hooked.

After owning this vehicle, I'm now hooked on Volkswagen, and the GTI specifically. This car is incognito as it looks just like the golf, but with a whole lot of upgrades, especially under the hood. The most fun vehicle I've ever had the pleasure of driving. And it's all mine!

Fun and oddly practical!

This is a great city car, fits in most mini spots. Its fast, fun and reliable aside from water pump. It has staved my life at Ikea and parking needs.
