The Good
The 2018 BMW M3 boasts blistering performance and sharp handling, appealing to driving enthusiasts. It offers decent comfort for daily use and a stylish, aggressive design. While not the most efficient, it's reasonable for its class. Reliability is generally good with proper maintenance. The M3 provides a compelling blend of performance and practicality, offering emotional satisfaction and usability.
The Bad

What Problems Does the 2018 BMW M3 Have?
Other potential issues include oil leaks, particularly around the valve cover gasket and oil filter housing. The dual-clutch transmission (DCT) can also experience problems, though less frequently than the crank hub. Some owners have reported software glitches or issues with the iDrive system, though these are usually minor.
Recalls for the 2018 M3 were relatively limited but should be checked via the NHTSA website using the VIN. Long-term reliability depends heavily on maintenance. Regular oil changes and addressing issues promptly are crucial. Given the M3's performance nature, components like brakes and tires will wear more quickly than on a standard sedan. Addressing the crank hub proactively, such as with a pinned crank hub upgrade, is a common preventative measure.
How long will the 2018 BMW M3 last?
Long-term durability hinges on mitigating known weaknesses, such as the crank hub. Neglecting maintenance or ignoring warning signs can significantly shorten the car's lifespan. Suspension components may require replacement over time due to wear and tear. The S55 engine, if properly maintained, is generally robust, but preventative measures like a crank hub fix are wise.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Optional features enhanced the tech and safety offerings. These included adaptive LED headlights, blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and active driving assistant (which bundles several safety features). Apple CarPlay was also an option. The head-up display projected key information onto the windshield, allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road.
Safety ratings for the 2018 BMW 3 Series (which the M3 is based on) are generally good. While the IIHS may not have specifically tested the M3, the 3 Series received top marks in several crashworthiness categories. The NHTSA also awarded the 3 Series high overall safety ratings, providing assurance of the M3's safety performance. The M3 also includes standard safety features such as multiple airbags, stability control, and anti-lock brakes.

2018 BMW M3 Prices and Market Value
Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, service history, and whether it has the Competition Package. Cars with lower mileage, clean titles, and documented maintenance records command higher prices. Modifications, especially those that negatively impact reliability, can decrease resale value. The Competition Package is generally more desirable and thus retains a higher resale value.

How Does the 2018 BMW M3 Compare to Other Sedan?
Reliability is a mixed bag. The M3's crank hub issue is a significant concern, whereas the AMG C63 can have its own V8 related problems. The Audi RS5/RS4 are generally considered more reliable. Price-wise, the M3 is competitive, but the used market varies considerably.
Alternatives to consider: if outright power is the priority, the AMG C63 is a strong contender. If reliability is paramount, the Audi RS5/RS4 (if considering a 2 door coupe/5 door avant) might be a better choice, although they lack the raw edge of the M3. The Cadillac ATS-V offers comparable performance at a potentially lower price point, but its interior and brand perception might not appeal to all buyers. Ultimately, the best alternative depends on individual priorities and preferences.

Final Verdict: Is the 2018 BMW M3 a Good Sedan?
The Competition Package is generally more desirable due to its increased performance and enhanced features. It is advisable to set aside funds for a preventative crank hub fix. If reliability is your top priority, consider alternatives. However, for those seeking a thrilling driving experience and are willing to invest in maintenance, the 2018 BMW M3 remains a compelling choice.

One of BMWs bestBMW's, specifically M series can sometimes get a bad rep for reliability and the markup in service cost if out of warranty. This couldn't be further from the truth...I've owned two f80 M3s and these things are extremely well-engineered and other than the random crankhub issues (typically caused by loose crankbolts from the factory or bad tunes that on-ramp torque too quickly) these cars are bullet-proof. I've put over 70,000 miles on this chassis and have had ZERO headaches, zero mechanical surprises and nothing but a xxxx eating grin from ear to ear each and every time I drive one. BMW did a knockout job mechanically and cosemetically with this generation F8X M3 and they've prooven to hold-up against the test of time. With petrol engines being phased out, this car is sure to continue to hold it's value!!!

Principle BMW of San Antonio are THIEVESI was involved in a traffic accident, on 2/23/2021. My car was towed to Principle BMW of San Antonio .I went to pick the car several days later when they told me it was ready. The car didn't drive right and all my belongings were stolen. My .45 .Kimber, my Ray Ban, prescription glasses, my laptop and briefcase and Escort radar detector are missing Γ°ΕΈΛβ. The end of the story is they got paid $15,000+ and demanded a additional amount of $5000 from me. The car still as of 4/5/2022 isn't fixed and doesn't drive. AVOID PRINCIPLE BMW!!!

Monster of a MachineThis car is an absolute monster on the street but feels like the safest car I've ever driven. They really thought of everything - I don't think there's a better or more fun car out there.

Fun, Fast, and PracticalPerfect combination of speed and practicality. 5 seats and a full trunk mixed with 444 HP. Only issue I had was some premature clutch wear that was replaced under warranty.

Almost perfect - with one severe design flawThe M3 competition is almost the ideal daily driver. Very roomy and very easy to drive - with a suspension on the very stiff side. I think it looks awesome and very "stealth" - most people probably think it's a regular 3 series. There's one severe design flaw though. The M3 bombards it's own doors and side panels with road debris. After ~5000 miles you'll have more rock-chips on both doors(!!) than you ever had on any car combined. Disappointing for an otherwise perfectly engineered masterpiece.

In need of dependable car for the wifeThis is one of the most enjoyable cars I have ever been able to drive even if it was such a short trip....and the asking amount of the car was very comperable to others in the area

Fun, Fast, Stylish, overall great car!!!Improved gas mileage over the older model. Amazing handling, lots of power, fun and exciting car to drive. The only thing I would improve is the exhaust sound of the car. Doesn?t sound as aggressive as it looks. Missing that big deep growl.
