The 2013 BMW M3, part of the E92 generation (2007-2013), is a high-performance sports car celebrated for its naturally aspirated V8 engine. Available as a coupe, sedan (E90), and convertible (E93), key trims included the base M3, Competition Package, and Lime Rock Park Edition. New, prices ranged from approximately $60,000 to $80,000+, depending on options. Its exceptional balance of power, handling, and daily drivability made it immensely popular.
The Good

The 2013 BMW M3 boasts exhilarating performance thanks to its high-revving V8. Its iconic design and comfortable interior provide an emotional connection, while relatively decent reliability for a performance car and respectable (for its class) fuel efficiency offer practical appeal. The M3 holds its value well, making it a solid investment.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2013 BMW M3 include rod bearing issues (particularly in earlier model years), throttle actuators, and potential for high maintenance costs due to its complex engineering. Electronics can also be finicky. A thorough pre-purchase inspection is crucial to identify potential problems before buying.

I'd been driving 328i's for over 10 years but always wanted an M3. I only wanted an E92/S-65 version and took my time to find the right one. I found it two years ago (in 2018) at a dealership 900 miles away from where I live: It was a 2013 with only 27,800 miles on it. I flew down to check it out. It was Space Grey and had the competition package and cold weather package. Another interesting feature I discovered when I got there, was that it also had the Dinan exhaust system as well. The dealer never mentioned that and the web pictures never showed it. He had no idea of the added value. The car was spotless and I was impressed. The test drive sealed the deal. What a machine. I felt I stole it for $34,000. It has the 7 speed dual clutch tranny. I've always driven sticks, and my previous 328's were all sticks, but at 61 years of age, and with the idiot drivers in NC, I actually preferred a slushbox at this point. The dual clutch tranny is outstanding. The shifts are tighter than anything I could ever do with the manual, but if I want to go into sport mode, I can do it grabbing the console shifter or by tapping the paddles. While the M3 is more known for its speed, it is also incredibly comfortable to drive. The leather seats are well cushioned and just hug you from the side. I have a bad back, and driving this home from Miami to NC straight through, I had no additional pain at all by the end of the trip. The interior trim is fairly simple but well appointed. Mine has the wood grained dash, and also has the rear window power sun screen. Also has the recessed GPS and the premium sound system. This car is the last of a rare breed - a naturally aspirated V-8 with a sound that is simply glorious. It has three tones: a low smooth rumble at idle, a growl with normal acceleration, and an absolute roar if you jump on it. According to my 21 year old son (who owns my previous 328i coupe), I drive it too gently, though he's not always with me. 🙂 I let him drive it a couple of times and his face lit up as he put it through its paces in sport mode. I probably do drive it too easy most of the time. I don't track it, but I've certainly had some fun with it. It is nice to know I have the power there when I want it, especially on the interstate. Going into "M" mode is a real treat. The car just takes off like a rocket and it pins you to the rear of the seat. It's handling is firm, but not uncomfortable, and it takes corners with ease. Beyond its power and handling, this is simply a beautiful car with incredible lines, my favorite being the flared rocker panels. I originally figured I'd keep it for a couple of years until I "got it out of my system". I still haven't, and can't imagine I ever will. I still look forward to driving this every day. The newer M3's are admittedly even faster, but they sound like crap. I rarely even listen to music in mine. The sound of the S-65 engine as it goes through its paces is like a symphony to me. It now has 55,000 miles on it, and those are predominately interstate and back road miles to and from work. I'm getting ready to retire, so the yearly mileage will be even less now. I don't plan to sell it. It's just too much fun to drive. I recommend this car wholeheartedly. As the last of the naturally aspirated M cars, is destined to be a classic and I believe it will hold its value very well.

They swapped an SMG transmission into it. This is the older model of the automated manual that was replace by the DCT for the e9x M3. Stay far away.

Most fun for the money

I bought a 2013 M3 convertible for a daily driver and love it. I owned a ‘17 M3 with competition package and as great as it was, it doesn’t compare with the E93. Reasons: E93 is the perfect balance of power and handling. The F80 can be terrifyingly fast and lacks the steering feedback of the E93. E93 brakes feel more effective than F80. Maybe it’s my imagine but the E93 seemingly stops in the length of a crayon. The exhaust note on the E93 is glorious. The F80 is, well, it leaves something to be desired. The E93 seats are far more comfortable than F80 with competition package which are so heavily bolstered that only small women can be comfortable. The E93 ride is far more forgiving. I will say, the F80 tech is far superior and interior aesthetics are better but I’ll still take my E93 given the choice. I’d encourage anyone to buy a low mileage E9x while you can. The only V8 M3 will be harder to find and more expensive very soon.

I am looking for this car for a long time

After driving this car I think it is a good choice for me . If you're looking for a new crossover in this segment, put this one on your short list to test drive.

Just got a M3, and it's a head turner!

Great daily driver and weekend cruiser! The handle is the best I've ever had. Amazing suspension and bucket seats to keep you in place as you round the corners. I love the low hum of the V8, so sexy!

One of the best cars ever made.

The E92(2008-2013) BMW M3 is one of the best cars ever made, period. It is not going to beat many cars in a straight line because the lack of low end torque and torque overall, but you'll still get 0-60 in roughly 4.3-4.8 seconds depending on conditions and ability. The car has a amazing stability through the corners and the M Dynamic Mode(Dynamic Traction Control) allows you to have fun without getting too wild. On the daily drivability it has pretty good trunk space and the 2 rear seats are big with average leg room for a coupe. It rides pretty smooth for a sports car eating up most of the bumps in the road. The seats are comfy and it has a decent amount of amenities with gps, optional heated seats, an optional amazing HiFi stereo complete with two 8" subwoofers. It really is one of the biggest bangs for your buck on the market right now. Speaking of bangs for your buck, I recommend you look up some E92 M3 exhaust videos on youtube. Its pretty much the closest you will come to sounding like a Ferrari without driving a Ferrari. The few mechanical problems that can come along with it are throttle body actuators that usually go out around 40,000 miles and the rod bearings can wear out so it is necessary to have oil analysis done every so often to check for metal particulate. Other than those two things it pretty reliable and I would recommend it to anyone who loves or even likes cars. It looks amazing and drives even better.

Best performing car I ever owned

Superior performance and sound with the comfort and engineering comparable to vehicles that cost twice as much. Engineering, safety and convenience make this a world class performance luxury car.
