The Good
The 2017 Veloster offered a blend of advantages. Emotionally, its distinctive design and sporty handling appealed. Practically, it provided good fuel efficiency and decent cargo space for its size. The Turbo models delivered enjoyable performance. It's generally considered a reliable vehicle and offered good value for money compared to its competitors, making it attractive to budget-conscious buyers.
The Bad
Some common weaknesses of the 2017 Veloster included a less-refined base engine that could feel underpowered, especially when merging onto highways. The rear visibility was somewhat limited due to the car's design. The ride quality could be firm, especially on models with larger wheels. Some owners have reported issues with the dual-clutch transmission in the Turbo models, so that should be inspected.

What Problems Does the 2017 Hyundai Veloster Have?
Other reported issues include occasional electrical problems, such as malfunctioning sensors or issues with the infotainment system. Some owners have also reported problems with the paint quality, with chipping and fading occurring prematurely. Engine issues are less frequent but can occur, particularly in the Turbo models, where proper maintenance (including regular oil changes with the correct type of oil) is crucial to prevent turbocharger problems.
Checking the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls is highly recommended before purchasing a used 2017 Veloster. Recalls have been issued for various reasons in past Veloster model years, so ensuring that all applicable recalls have been addressed is essential for long-term reliability. Overall, while the Veloster is a relatively reliable vehicle, potential buyers should be aware of these common issues and carefully inspect the car before purchase, especially focusing on the transmission's performance.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were relatively limited compared to modern vehicles. Some models offered blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert as optional extras. Automatic emergency braking and lane departure warning were not available.
Safety features included standard antilock brakes, stability control, and a full complement of airbags. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave the 2017 Veloster a 4-star overall safety rating. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings varied; it's best to check the IIHS website directly for the specific 2017 Veloster ratings, but it generally performed well in most crash tests. It's important to note that the availability of optional safety features could depend on the trim level and specific packages selected when the vehicle was originally purchased. Always verify the specific equipment on any used vehicle you are considering.

How Does the 2017 Hyundai Veloster Compare to Other Vehicle?
In terms of reliability, the Veloster is generally comparable to the Civic and Mazda3, although the DCT in the Turbo models can be a concern. Feature-wise, it was competitive, especially considering its lower price. If performance is a priority, the GTI is a better choice. For a more refined and practical hatchback, the Civic Hatchback or Mazda3 are excellent alternatives. A similar, albeit less common, alternative is the Kia Forte5, which shares some components with Hyundai and offers a comparable driving experience.
Ultimately, the Veloster's biggest draw is its unique styling. If you value standing out from the crowd and are willing to accept some compromises in practicality and refinement, it's a solid choice. However, if you prioritize performance or all-around competence, the other options might be more appealing.

Sporty little carGreat economic car. I didn't realize it's a sports car, so insurance seems steep but car works great. Reliable. Very attractive appearance. Holds lots of groceries in back hatchback. Getting into and out of car difficult due to low overhead, and if wearing a bun impossible to get in or out of doorway. Hard to buckle seat belts and seats uncomfortable after long drives out of state. Overall, this car is give a strong 7. But, I'm use to newer corvette, and Chevy or dodge trucks with v-8 and lots of comfort, power and room. This was my try at an economical car. I've had it for 1.5 years but thinking of getting a truck. Too low to ground for me. Im a very large woman so need more space and comfort. Probable more suited to a younger man or woman as it has eye appeal for sure and stereo, lights, design all cool

Really an awesome carOverall a great car. Very roomy front seats. Decent size back seats. Sporty looking car for being a 3 door. Yes i said 3 door. Exceeds my expectations.

Its lit famHad this car for a few weeks now. I'm 5'8" and I fit in the car nicely. Everyone says the NAVs are slow, but in my experience that's just not the case. Would recommend.

Not my favoriteI am short and the seat was the most uncomfortable seat in any car I have ever owned. Set way to close to the ground even when at the top setting. The engine also had issues with exhilaration during a rolling stop, or slowing down when someone in front of you makes a turn, when exhilarating to get back to speed the car would hesitate and not move for a few seconds. Never able to pull out when normally I would have felt comfortable.

dual clutch nightmareI love the style but my 2013 & 2017 the dual clutch causes car to slip out of gear while driving . its been a nightmare

Crap CarThe dual clutch will get someone killed. It stalls out on an incline, the seatbelt adjustment (lack of) is a ridiculous joke. When you turn off the heat the blower keeps going. Ect. Etc.

Very fun car to driveI liked everything about the car with the exception of the delayed startup of the entertainment/GPS/backup camera system. You started the car strapped yourself in put the car in reverse and no warning lines would appear. Then you put it in drive and the backup camera would stay on. After a block or 2 it would become normal.

Dangerous carThe steering wheel has no hole at the 6 o'clock position. Hands can't fit inside the 5 and 7 o'clock holes without triggering buttons. This wheels design is for controlling gadgets and steering second. Can't see out the back window. The front of center console let's anything in there fall out the side openings. Seat hurt back and feel like plastic and cardboard. Slow getting up to speed.
