The Good
The 2009 Dodge Charger boasts strong performance, especially in R/T and SRT8 trims, appealing to enthusiasts. Its spacious interior offers comfort for families. The Charger's bold design evokes nostalgia. While not the most fuel-efficient, it provides reasonable value for the size and performance offered. Reliability can be decent with proper maintenance.
The Bad
Common weaknesses include potential electrical issues, particularly with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). Some owners have reported suspension problems and premature wear. Fuel economy, especially with the larger engines, can be poor. Watch out for rust, especially in areas with road salt. Check for proper maintenance history, as neglected Chargers can be costly to repair.

What Problems Does the 2009 Dodge Charger Have?
Recalls for the 2009 Charger have addressed issues such as potential unintended acceleration, airbag malfunctions, and fuel leaks. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the aforementioned electrical issues and the potential for rust, especially in areas with harsh winter climates. High-mileage Chargers, particularly those with the Hemi engines, may require more frequent maintenance and repairs. Thorough inspection before purchasing a used 2009 Charger is highly recommended, paying close attention to the electrical system, suspension, and overall maintenance history.
How long will the 2009 Dodge Charger last?
Long-term durability is generally good, but weaknesses include potential rust in colder climates, electrical component failures (especially related to the TIPM), and potential for increased oil consumption in higher-mileage Hemi engines. Regular inspections and proactive maintenance are essential to maximize its lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) and electronic stability control (ESC) were standard. Some trims offered optional features like rear parking sensors.
Safety features included front and side airbags.
Crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) varied depending on the specific test. Generally, the 2009 Charger received good ratings in frontal and side-impact crash tests, but scores in rollover tests were less impressive. Specific details should be verified on the respective agency websites (NHTSA and IIHS) as results could change or be updated over time. Overall, while it had basic safety features, it lacked the advanced driver-assistance systems common in newer cars.

2009 Dodge Charger Prices and Market Value
The Charger has experienced significant depreciation over the years. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, trim level (SRT8 models hold their value better), and maintenance history. Demand for performance sedans also influences prices. Higher gas prices can negatively impact resale value due to the Charger's fuel consumption.

How Does the 2009 Dodge Charger Compare to Other Sedan Tall Style?
In terms of *performance*, the Charger, particularly the R/T and SRT8, offered a significant advantage over the Crown Victoria and Impala. The Chrysler 300 with similar engine options provided comparable performance.
*Features* were generally competitive within the segment, although the Charger lacked some of the advanced tech features found in newer vehicles.
*Reliability* is a mixed bag. The Impala and Crown Victoria are generally considered more reliable than the Charger due to fewer reported electrical issues.
*Price-wise*, the Charger was generally competitive, often offering more performance for the money compared to the Crown Victoria.
Alternatives to consider include the Chrysler 300, which shares many of the Charger's attributes but with a slightly more luxurious feel. The Pontiac G8 (though a different year) also offered similar performance and features. If reliability is a primary concern, the Toyota Avalon might be a better option, albeit with less sporty styling.

I bought my Charger R/T new in 2009.I bought my Charger R/T new in 2009. It has 180,000 miles now. It runs and looks like new. The Mercedes valve body did fail, but the lifetime power train warranty fixed it. Even the leather seats look new.

Owners remorse on August 20, 2019
Has lots of issuesI used to own a 2009 dodge charger SE and bought it brand new. Loved everything about it from day one. I only used it for pleasure and kept it in great condition and always got it serviced by the dealership for I loved my charger. But as time went by i started to find faults in it which reflected the poor craftsmanship of this particular model. First came the driver side seat. For some odd reason, they designed the side of the seat in such a way that when you sit in it, the weight of side is totally rests on the side plastic cover which under pressure breaks from it's screws. Hence the side totally collapses. This is a genuine fault which the dealership confessed but I had to pay out of my pocket for repairs because there was no recall on it. Had it repaired twice. Then as I'm driving home from work via freeway, the coolant valve exploded and I got stranded. Luckily I pulled over before the engine blew. Towed it to the dealership and again they confessed to having this issues on this particular model but no recall yet. So I had to pay for repairs again. How come dodge knows about this problems but yet shys away from the fact. I guess no one has died yet or sued dodge to get a recall. Mind you the miles were only 56245 when all these problems started. Couple months later the transmissions started to slip and I just had it. This model only took my money so I got rid of it. Even the interior is poorly crafted. Like they finished it quickly for sales purposes. Well now I'm a Honda owner and never will a buy a dodge again. I like to keep My hard earned money where it belongs. In my pocket and not in dodge dealers. Miss my 2009 charger for it was my dream car until it became a nightmare.

Low miles engine issuesI purchased a 2009 charger police service unit assigned to the bailiff of the court. The vehicle was only used to transport criminals from court to the jail. With only 37k miles and 5100 hours of service it seemed a great buy. Also having the super duty oil pump and oil cooler I figured the motor was ok, but I am having cam & lifter failure. Scouring the internet I've noticed so many identical issues. Why is Chrysler shielding their eyes from the obvious "weak motor materials" used to assemble this car they built. Rollers on lifters seize grinding off cam lobe. Not a lubrication problem, but they would prefer to blame it on you for not changing oil and caring for your motor.

She may be pretty but shes a nightmareWe bought in 2018 have had for 1 year . the check engine light came on a few days after buying. We took to the dodge dealership they wanted us to pay over $1000 to fix some type of fuse. They claim this is one of the most expensive vechicles to fix . we did not have that type of money so we took her to another place to see if it would be cheaper. They told us not to worry about the fuse its just something dodge uses to make money. That the vechicle would be fine. A few months later she starts shaking when driving and we cant go over 40mph We take her in and pay around $400 total for it to get fixed. The engine light is still on but at least we can go over 40. Its at 215,000 and I honestly dont think she will last much longer. She really is a beauty but its been a struggle this entire year with her . I dont recommend it unless maybe it has very low mileage and you only want it for a few years.

Excellent daily driver. This car meets my needs. Stylish, comfortable, reliable, sporty. This model of the charger is much more stylish than the later models in my opinion.
