What Problems Does the 2014 Dodge Charger Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2014 Dodge Charger often revolve around the electronic systems, particularly the Uconnect infotainment system. Issues include screen freezing, Bluetooth connectivity problems, and malfunctioning navigation. Some owners have also reported problems with the car's electrical system, such as malfunctioning sensors and issues with the car's computer. Suspension components, particularly the front suspension, can be prone to wear and tear, leading to noises and reduced ride quality.

Recalls for the 2014 Charger have addressed issues such as potential fuel leaks, faulty airbags, and problems with the anti-lock braking system (ABS). It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN against the NHTSA database to ensure all applicable recalls have been addressed.

Long-term reliability concerns include potential engine issues, especially with higher mileage V8 models. Oil consumption can be a problem in some cases. Rust can also be a concern in areas with harsh winters. Regular maintenance and timely repairs are essential to mitigate these risks and ensure the vehicle's longevity. Early model year 2011-2014 Chargers had some reports of transmission hesitation which seemed to be resolved through software updates. Check service records for such updates.

How long will the 2014 Dodge Charger last?

Based on owner data and typical maintenance habits, a 2014 Dodge Charger can realistically provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles of service, potentially lasting 10-15 years with good care. Long-term durability hinges on consistent maintenance, including regular oil changes, fluid checks, and timely replacement of wear items like brakes and tires. Weaknesses over time include potential for rust, particularly in colder climates, and increased likelihood of electrical issues as components age. The Uconnect system and other electronic modules may become more prone to failure with age. Engine wear, especially in the V8 models, can lead to increased oil consumption over time.
Positive Owner Reviews
Mike Porter
we bought ours in 2016 with 33,000 miles. It replaced a 2009 Pontiac Vibe. It's as good on gas at 25-31mpg and it rides and drives so much better! 5 people ride comfortably. it's had minimal repairs, has 177,000 miles now and still going. it rides, drives and great. has been on 10w30 Mobil1 since we got it and changing oil every 10,000 miles it's never used any oil. I hope to find another one before we stop driving.

The 2014 Dodge Charger offers a range of built-in tech and safety features. Standard on the base SE trim is a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, dual-zone climate control, and keyless entry. Higher trims like the SXT and R/T feature a larger 8.4-inch Uconnect touchscreen with Bluetooth connectivity, voice command, and optional navigation. Entertainment options include a six-speaker audio system, with premium options like a BeatsAudio sound system available.

Driver-assistance features are limited on the base models but can be found on higher trims or as optional packages. These may include rear parking sensors, a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-path detection. Safety features include electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and multiple airbags.

The 2014 Dodge Charger received generally positive crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). NHTSA awarded it an overall safety rating of 5 stars. 2014 Dodge Charger Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Dodge Charger had an MSRP ranging from around $27,000 for the base SE model to over $47,000 for the SRT8. As of today's used market, prices typically range from $10,000 to $25,000, depending on the trim level, mileage, condition, and location. Depreciation has been moderate, as the Charger's popularity and strong performance keep demand relatively high. Factors affecting resale value include the engine type (V8 models retain value better), overall condition, maintenance history, and mileage. Models with desirable features like the 8.4-inch Uconnect system and driver-assistance packages also command higher prices.

2014 Dodge Charger Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Dodge Charger is generally considered moderately costly to own. Insurance premiums can be higher, particularly for V8 models, due to their performance capabilities. Fuel costs, especially with the V8 engines, are significant. Maintenance costs are average, but repairs can be expensive, especially for electronic systems and suspension components. 2014 Dodge Charger Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Dodge Charger is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Dodge Charger Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2014 Dodge Charger competes with other full-size sedans like the Chrysler 300, Ford Taurus, Chevrolet Impala, and Toyota Avalon. In terms of performance, the Charger, particularly with its V8 engines, outperforms most rivals, offering superior acceleration and handling. The Chrysler 300, its corporate cousin, shares similar underpinnings but offers a more luxurious feel. The Ford Taurus, especially the SHO model, provides decent performance but lacks the Charger's aggressive styling. The Chevrolet Impala offers a more comfortable ride and better fuel economy but lacks the Charger's power. The Toyota Avalon is known for its reliability and smooth ride but is less engaging to drive.

In terms of features, the Charger offers a competitive range of tech and safety options, although some rivals may have more advanced driver-assistance systems. Reliability is a mixed bag, with the Charger potentially facing more electronic issues than the Avalon or Impala.

In terms of price, the Charger offers good value, particularly on the used market. Similar alternatives include the Chrysler 300 (for a more luxurious experience) or the Ford Taurus SHO (for a balance of performance and practicality). If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Avalon might be a better choice.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Dodge Charger a Good Sedan?

The 2014 Dodge Charger is ideal for buyers seeking a powerful, stylish, and spacious sedan with a distinctive presence. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, if performance and aggressive styling are priorities. It's less suitable for those primarily concerned with fuel economy or ultimate reliability.

A used 2014 Charger R/T offers a great balance of performance and value. A thorough inspection for potential electrical or suspension issues is crucial. Lower trims like the SE or SXT are suitable for those prioritizing affordability and fuel efficiency over outright power. The SRT8 is a performance bargain if you can find one in good condition, but be prepared for higher running costs.

Take care of your car of today if you want it.

At 129,000 mi I replaced the plugs, igniti on coils, belt tensioner and belt,PCV,M AP sensor, water pump, new aluminum coolant crossover( by plastic), aluminu m thermostat housing and thermostat ,upper & lower radiator hoses, new all aluminum oil filter housing(by plastic),n ew lower& upper intake manifold gaske ts,cut out the plastic heater core "Tee" and installed a metal 1"x1"x1/2" and ne w hose clamps, flushed and refilled OAT antifreeze, drained trany pan and put in new oil filter and new trany pan"with a installed drain plug" in it,replaced the 3.5 qts of synthetic ATF+4 transmission fluid that come out of it and used the trany fluid check stick at 150° F throug h the "dealer only" trany fluid tube cap to 63 mm measurement trany fluid leve l,replaced both upstream O2 sensors, cleaned the throttle and throttle body, put on a new lower engine oil pan( that the oil change shop stripped the drain plug threads out on) changed the 5W-2 0 synthetic oil,and drained/ pumped out all rear end gear lube oil and put in new 75W-140 gear lube. I figure, that, my 2014 charger SE 3.6L should be good for another 100,000 to 200,000 miles ( of course,I will drain an d refill the trany fluid again after 10,00 0 to 15,000 mi to bring my fluid ratio up to 75% -90% clean/ new trany fluid) . I've already brought my MPG up from 18 mpg to 26mpg Lesson and advice--"take care of your car/ investment and you won't have to spend another $30,000 to $90,000 for/on a new car' (I call "the junk and crap cars of today)". Personally-im considering a 1960' s to 1970's dodge,Chevy SS,Pontiac, cuda,or GTO of yester-year I remember owning and diving in my youth( 45+ years ago).

2014 Charger

we bought ours in 2016 with 33,000 miles.

Best vehicle I have owned!

I have owned the 2014 R/T AWD plus blacktop edition for 5 years now (bought slightly used). What a great car! Might be the best car I have ever owned (and I've owned many cars). Great ride, good tech that still holds up to todays standards, lots of power, smooth ride, quiet, comfortable. At 100k miles, no issues. Almost no rattles, no rust. Best snow vehicle I've ever had up to about 7 inches of snow. I'm hoping that Stellantis comes out with a high HP hybrid or “e” model in the next few years, so I can buy another, since they are getting rid of the Hemi's. I would highly recommend this vehicle.

Not bad

I bought a used 2014 charger sxt 6cly It was a nice car but the 8 speed auto made it horrible. I didn't like the fact the thing had to shift threw 4-5 gears just to pass another car ! The v6 was under powered also besides that not bad

Best quality and lots of room

This car was just what I was looking for. Stylish, sleek, smooth ride. Good on gas mileage, a lot of room. Love how it's fully loaded with the navigation system put in and it's all digital.
