What Problems Does the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Have?
Long-term reliability concerns center around the lifespan of the transmission and the potential for rust. The 4.7L engine has been known to develop sludge if not properly maintained. Early models of the third-generation Ram, including the 2006, can exhibit these problems more frequently due to age and wear. Regular maintenance, rust prevention, and addressing any unusual symptoms promptly are crucial for extending the lifespan of a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) varied depending on the cab configuration. Quad Cab models generally received better scores than Regular Cab models. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings were not exceptionally high, reflecting the safety standards of that era. The 2006 Ram 1500 lacked advanced safety features like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring, which are common in newer trucks. The focus was primarily on basic safety features and structural design.
For entertainment, some trims included a rear-seat DVD entertainment system as an option, providing added value for families. Overall, the tech and safety features were adequate for the time but are significantly less advanced than what is available in modern trucks.

How Does the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 Compare to Other Pickup Truck?
In terms of price, the Ram 1500 was often competitively priced, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious buyers. However, the potential for higher repair costs can offset the initial savings. If reliability is a primary concern, the Ford F-150 or Chevrolet Silverado 1500 might be better alternatives, although they may come at a slightly higher price. The Toyota Tundra is another solid choice known for its long-term reliability, but its styling and features might not appeal to everyone.
Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities. If you value bold styling and strong performance at a reasonable price and are willing to accept potential reliability risks, the 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 can be a good option. However, if reliability is paramount, exploring alternatives is advisable.

2006 Ram SLTBought 2006 Ram SLT 4x4. Still own it. 246k miles. Standard maintenance, shocks, struts, power steering pump. Little rust required. Truck is more than most can expect. I wanted a truck that would last and give good service.

After years of GM & Ford, Dodge cured what ailed. My father instilled GM into me at a very young age and that a Chevy truck was the ONLY one to have aaaand maybe slip in a Ford once in awhile just to confirm you should've bought that Chevy. Well, after years of going with how I was raised when it came to buying trucks, and getting fed up with blown transmissions, gauges that seemed to always fail, or sitting off the highway waiting for roadside assistance, I became curious about what Dodge had to offer. 2006 my first Dodge of any kind, but not any kind of Dodge. 2006 Dodge Ram 1500 SLT Crew Cab Lone Star Edition rwd with 5.7l Hemi. Wow from the get go! So I'm gonna defer with the expected poor fuel efficiency and tell you about how bad ass it is that I have one of the most reliable, most capable, powerful, beast of a heavy ass truck that gets great mileage, all while enjoying a comfortable car like interior, but having a commanding view of what's down the road ahead, with a confidence of reliability like I've never known before. I've never owned a more powerful vehicle in my life able to haul & tow whatever needed, and do it without even the slightest bit of hesitation. Fuel efficiency? With 375 lb ft of torque, coupled with 345 horses... Come on, your not buying a Prius folks. What your getting is the reassurance your truck can do what you need it to, then some, and then some more. I average 13-14 mpg's in town, however this is ok cause I'm not driving for any type of people transport, and I average 21 mpg's on the highway. Pretty damn good for the over 6500lbs of truck I'm driving. The only thing I will say I do not like is the braking, numb is the word I'd use, and no everything with the braking system is to par it's just how it feels to me... numb. Overall couldn't be more satisfied in a truck... Reliability has been great... Nothing but normal maintenance: oil & transmission fluid changes, battery, brake pads, an occasional signal or headlight bulb. Still today 2020 everything works, normal maintenance, same fuel mileage, still capable, and I've learned also that one of the nice things about driving a Ram with a 5.7 l Hemi is knowing that you have nothing to prove. Cruising down the highway it will still beat or keep up the best of them!

Manufactured to gouge your pocketI have a 2006 Dodge Ram 1500. For some reason dodge wired the fuel pump relay straight into the circuit board in the fuse box. So you guessed it, when your fuel pump relay because a problem you have to replace the whole fuse box. $1000 fix. Won't be buying another Dodge pickup. Very poor engineering.

More reliable than my GMCThe truck met my needs and impressed everyone that rode in it. It was a solid ride with plenty of pulling power but had the worst turning radius of any truck I've owned, great sound system , poor radio and very poor gas mileage.

my new 2006 ram 1500 slt long bed regular cab...only had it, what, 2 months ..bought it from a pre owned car lot in the burbs...the body had a few dings and scratches..my body guy was able to press them out and touch them up..it shined up with a good buffing ...this is my first 4.7 v8...its nice...is getting close to 18mpg average including a good deal of berkeley city driving...it is hard to find an '06 with only 103,000 miles on it so i consider this one a deal...its too early to comment on the reliability of it, but i will say, of the 50+ new rams i've owned reliability is rarely an issue...this truck commutes 25 miles each way to work and the 8 foot bed is often full to the brim with fraternity house stuff and our tools...

My Favorite VehicleThis Dodge RAM 1500 made me love owning a truck. This was my field and farm truck, great for navigating city streets, country roads and hunting fields. Powerful 5.7L Hemi engine got me where I needed to go, towed my boat, hauled and moved furniture, supplies and equipment. Smooth, confident ride that has plenty of life, thanks to engine work done by a professional mechanic who restores vehicles to better than new. Recently moved into a smaller home in town and need to find a new home for the truck as my needs have changed. If you're looking for a practical ride that performs well, this should be your next best ride.
