The 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 is a full-size pickup truck, part of the Ram's third generation (2002-2008). Available in Regular Cab, Quad Cab, and Mega Cab body styles, it offered various trims including ST, SLT, Sport, Laramie, and TRX4. Known for its bold styling and powerful engine options, it was a popular choice for both work and personal use. Expect a used price range from approximately $5,000 to $15,000, depending on condition and mileage.
The Good

The 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 offered strong performance with its V8 engine options, providing ample power for towing and hauling. Its bold design and comfortable cabin were appealing. While not the most fuel-efficient, it presented a good value proposition on the used market, balancing capability with affordability. The robust feel appeals to buyers seeking a dependable truck.

The Bad

Common weaknesses in the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 include potential issues with the automatic transmission, particularly with higher mileage. Rust can be a problem, especially in areas with road salt. Fuel economy is not a strong point. Check for signs of wear and tear on suspension components and ball joints, as these are frequently reported problem areas.

What Problems Does the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 include issues with the automatic transmission, sometimes requiring rebuilds or replacements, especially on higher mileage vehicles. Rust is also a prevalent concern, particularly in regions where road salt is used during winter. Owners have reported rust forming on the undercarriage, body panels, and around wheel wells. Suspension components, such as ball joints and tie rod ends, are known to wear out prematurely, leading to steering issues and requiring replacement.
Electrical problems, including malfunctioning sensors and issues with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), have also been reported. The TIPM controls various electrical functions, and failures can lead to a range of issues, such as fuel pump problems or difficulty starting the vehicle. It's crucial to check for any active recalls on the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, as these address safety-related defects. Long-term reliability can be a concern if regular maintenance isn't performed. Specific model year variations may exist, but the 2007 model generally shares similar reliability concerns with other models in the third generation. Prioritizing a thorough inspection before purchase and addressing any identified issues promptly is essential for ensuring long-term reliability.

How long will the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 last?

Given the age of the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, it's reasonable to expect well over 150,000 miles on most examples. With good maintenance, many can reach 200,000 miles or more. However, long-term durability is heavily influenced by maintenance habits. Neglecting oil changes, transmission servicing, or addressing rust promptly will shorten its lifespan. Weaknesses over time include potential transmission failures, rust-related issues, and wear on suspension components. Addressing these issues proactively is key to extending the truck's lifespan and maintaining its reliability.

I got this truck from USA1 of Dalton on May 30th 2020. Not even 2 weeks in and that truck is NO LONGER running. The person I bought it from, RAFEEK, at USA1 of DALTON supposedly replaced the thermostat and after it would no longer run. Now we have to take Rafeek to court for selling us a useless vehicle!!!!

I love our truck. Only issue is they sold us a rusted out truck and it's falling apart. That's the only issue we have besides some electrical but it's a good truck.

I drove a RAM 2500 for approx. 10000 km for work, it was very rough riding to the point where it bounced around on pavement when I hit bumps, was even more scary on gravel roads. The fuel mileage was horrendous approx. 10-12. Lots of power from the 5.7 Hemi, nice interior design.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Dodge Ram 1500's built-in tech and entertainment features were relatively basic compared to modern vehicles. Standard features typically included an AM/FM radio and a CD player. Higher trims might offer an upgraded audio system, satellite radio, and a rear-seat DVD entertainment system. There were no advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking available at the time.
Safety features included standard front airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and available side curtain airbags. Electronic Stability Program (ESP) was also available on some trims. Crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) varied depending on the cab configuration. The Regular Cab generally received lower ratings compared to the Quad Cab in frontal crash tests. It's important to research specific cab configurations for accurate safety information.
Optional features varied by trim level and could include power-adjustable pedals, heated seats, and a sunroof. While the 2007 Ram 1500 lacked the advanced tech of newer trucks, its basic features provided functionality and comfort for its time.

2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 had a starting price in the low $20,000s for a base model, with higher trims reaching into the $30,000s or even $40,000s with options. Currently, used market prices typically range from $5,000 to $15,000, depending heavily on condition, mileage, and trim level. Depreciation has been significant due to the truck's age. Factors affecting resale value include the engine type (HEMI V8 models often command a premium), overall condition (rust-free examples are highly sought after), and documented maintenance history. Low mileage and desirable options can also increase the resale value.

2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Cost of Ownership

Owning a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 can be moderately costly. Insurance costs are typical for a full-size truck. Fuel economy is poor, especially with the V8 engines. Maintenance can be relatively affordable, but repairs, particularly to the transmission or electrical system, can be expensive. Long-term ownership costs will depend heavily on maintenance habits and the truck's condition. Rust prevention is crucial to minimize long-term repair expenses. It is not an economical vehicle compared to smaller or newer trucks.

2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Insurance

Insurance for a 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Pickup Truck with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 Compare to Other Pickup Truck?

The 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 competed with the Ford F-150, Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra 1500, and Toyota Tundra. In terms of performance, the Ram's HEMI engine was competitive, but the Ford and Chevy trucks often offered similar power. The Ram's interior design was generally well-regarded. However, the Toyota Tundra often surpassed the Ram in long-term reliability. The F-150 offered a wider range of cab and bed configurations.
In terms of features, the Ram was generally comparable to its American rivals, though the Tundra offered some advanced safety features for its time. Pricing on the used market is generally similar across these models. Reliability is where the Ram lagged behind, with more reported issues than the Tundra and some F-150 models.
Alternatives to the 2007 Ram 1500 would depend on priorities. If reliability is paramount, a Toyota Tundra of similar vintage might be a better choice, albeit potentially at a higher price. If a wider range of configurations is needed, the Ford F-150 is a solid alternative. However, the Ram offers a distinctive style and a powerful V8 option that appeals to many buyers.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 a Good Pickup Truck?

The 2007 Dodge Ram 1500 is ideal for buyers seeking a capable and stylish full-size truck at an affordable price point. It's worth buying if you're aware of the potential reliability issues and are prepared for potential maintenance and repairs. It is best suited for someone who needs a truck for occasional hauling or towing and appreciates its distinctive styling. Buying a well-maintained example with documented service history is crucial. Opting for a higher trim like the Laramie offers more features, but a thorough inspection for rust and mechanical issues is essential, regardless of the trim level. Given its age, buying "as is" is typical; carefully assess its condition before committing to a purchase.

Fantastic truck

What a fantastic truck. This truck just does everything right . Mine is a 5.7 Hemi that sounds incredible. Power is very good, although not as strong or fast as my 2014 5.0 F150. Roomy and comfortable and smooth as silk on the road. However since the 5.7 hemi screams with testosterone building induction and exhaust noise, it's loud. If you don't like a powerful sounding vehicles look elsewhere. Otherwise go find one and buy it !!!! i
