2011 Dodge Charger Overview, Reviews, Ratings & Specs

Rating: 4.73
Based on 86 Owner Reviews
Simon A | March 31, 2025
The 2011 Dodge Charger marked a significant redesign for the iconic muscle car sedan. It's a four-door, full-size sedan that blends aggressive styling with practical usability. Key trims included the SE, R/T, and R/T Road & Track. While prices varied, the range typically started around $25,000 and went up depending on the trim and options. Its blend of bold styling, powerful engine options (especially the Hemi V8), and relatively affordable price point made it a popular choice.
The Good

The 2011 Charger boasts strong performance, especially with the V8. Its bold, muscular design is emotionally appealing. It offers comfortable seating and a roomy interior appealing to practical buyers. It balances these aspects with decent reliability and overall value for its segment.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses include lower fuel economy, especially with the V8 engines. Some owners have reported issues with the electrical systems and infotainment system. The Charger's size can also make it challenging to park in tight spaces. Rust can be a concern in northern climates, so check the undercarriage.

What Problems Does the 2011 Dodge Charger Have?

The 2011 Dodge Charger has seen its share of reported problems. One frequently mentioned issue involves the electrical system, with owners reporting problems with the radio, Uconnect system, and various sensors. Transmission issues, particularly with the 5-speed automatic, have also been reported, including rough shifting and occasional failures.

Recalls for the 2011 Charger have included issues related to the fuel system, airbags, and the anti-lock braking system (ABS). It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls before purchasing. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the longevity of the electronic components and the potential for rust, especially in areas with harsh winter conditions.

Some owners have also noted issues with the suspension components, such as worn ball joints and control arms, particularly in vehicles with higher mileage. Additionally, the 5.7L Hemi engine, while powerful, can be prone to issues like the "Hemi tick," a valvetrain noise that may or may not indicate a serious problem. Staying on top of scheduled maintenance and addressing any unusual noises or performance issues promptly is essential for ensuring long-term reliability.

How long will the 2011 Dodge Charger last?

With good maintenance, a 2011 Dodge Charger can easily reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report 10-15 years of service. However, consistent maintenance is key. Long-term durability hinges on addressing potential electrical issues, preventing rust, and maintaining the engine and transmission. Weaknesses over time include potential wear and tear on suspension components and the aforementioned electrical glitches that can become more frequent as the car ages. Regular fluid changes and timely repairs are vital for longevity.

If anyone mentions dodge charger when you are shopping for a car TURN AND RUN AWAY AS FAST AS YOU CAN!!!!!!!!!!!! My daughter bought a 2011 and has had nothing but problems.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2011 Dodge Charger offered a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard features included keyless entry, power windows and locks, and a basic audio system. Higher trims like the SXT and R/T added features like a touchscreen infotainment system (Uconnect), Bluetooth connectivity, and upgraded audio options.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles, but options included electronic stability control, traction control, and antilock brakes. Available safety features included side-curtain airbags and electronic brake-force distribution.

The Uconnect system, while functional, could be slow to respond at times. Optional features included navigation, a premium sound system, and heated seats. Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) were generally favorable, with good scores in most categories. However, it's always best to check the latest safety ratings from these organizations for the most up-to-date information. Keep in mind that the technology is dated compared to modern cars; don't expect advanced driver-assistance systems like adaptive cruise control or lane-keeping assist.

2011 Dodge Charger Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2011 Dodge Charger ranged from around $25,000 for the base SE model to over $35,000 for a fully equipped R/T. Current used market prices vary greatly depending on condition, mileage, and trim, but expect to find them in the $5,000 to $15,000 range. Depreciation has been significant due to age and mileage. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, service history, and whether it's a desirable trim (like the R/T with the Hemi). Low mileage, well-maintained examples command the highest prices.

2011 Dodge Charger Cost of Ownership

The 2011 Dodge Charger can be moderately costly to own. Insurance rates are typically higher than average due to the car's performance and potential for speeding tickets. Fuel costs, especially with the V8, are significant. Maintenance and repair costs are average for its class, but potential electrical issues could lead to unexpected expenses. While not the most economical choice, it offers a lot of value for its performance and styling if these are priorities.

2011 Dodge Charger Insurance

Insurance for a 2011 Dodge Charger is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2011 Dodge Charger Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Sedan?

Key rivals to the 2011 Dodge Charger included the Ford Taurus, Chevrolet Impala, and Chrysler 300 (which shares a platform with the Charger). In terms of performance, the Charger R/T with the Hemi V8 outperformed most rivals in acceleration and overall power. The Taurus SHO offered similar performance with its turbocharged V6. Feature-wise, the Charger was competitive but could lack some of the advanced tech features offered by the Taurus. Reliability is where the Charger can fall slightly behind, with some rivals having a better track record.

Price-wise, the Charger was generally competitive, often offering more performance for the money. The Chrysler 300 offers similar features and styling but with a more luxurious feel. The Ford Taurus, while offering more tech, lacks the Charger's raw muscle car appeal. The Chevrolet Impala is a more budget-friendly option but doesn't offer the same level of performance or styling. If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Avalon might be a better alternative, though it lacks the Charger's aggressive styling and powerful engine options. Ultimately, the best alternative depends on individual priorities.

Final Verdict: Is the 2011 Dodge Charger a Good Sport Utility Vehicle Sedan?

The 2011 Dodge Charger is ideal for those seeking a bold, muscular sedan with strong performance and a relatively affordable price tag. It's worth buying if you prioritize styling and power over ultimate fuel economy and potentially long-term reliability. Purchasing a well-maintained used model is the most sensible option given its age. An R/T trim offers the best performance, but be prepared for higher running costs. Ensure a thorough inspection, focusing on potential electrical and transmission issues, before making a purchase. If you want something reliable, look elsewhere; but if you're okay with some quirks, it's a blast.

Vehicle Better Than Expected!

This car met all my needs. It was roomy, sporty, powerful, and most of all reliable. It was in great mechanical and cosmetic condition for a 2011. Low miles and well maintained.

As the Germans said: The Car

I had a plenty of nice cars. I needed to have something newer, so I purchased a 2011 Dodge Charger Pursuit with V6 engine on it. In terms of acceleration, it is not as fast as my 2006 Infiniti G35 AWD. However, I really liked how it drives, even more than my Infiniti. The gas mileage is incomparably better than the Infiniti (18 ish in city and 32-33 in hwy). You feel really safe when you drive it. It is really roomy and has a huge trunk. The one I have, the pursuit pckg, has better brakes and suspension compared to the civilian pckg. The replacement parts are not expensive at all.

Liked this car so much we purchased a duplicate!

This car has met all of our needs. We have been so pleased that when it came time to replace it we searched for a duplicate but couple of years newer. Hope to have same experience with the newer car! Mileage has been great (30 hwy) and reliability has been good. The car is comfortable / fun to drive and carries 4 people in comfort.
