What Problems Does the 2024 BMW X5 Have?
Electrical component failures, while not widespread, have also been mentioned by some owners. Recalls are tracked by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and should be checked regularly for any safety-related issues. As for long-term reliability, the BMW X5, like many luxury SUVs, can become more expensive to maintain as it ages. Parts and labor costs tend to be higher than non-luxury vehicles. The plug-in hybrid xDrive50e, although new, could potentially have long-term battery degradation that affects range and performance over many years of use. Thorough maintenance and adherence to the recommended service schedule are essential to mitigate potential issues and ensure long-term reliability. Regularly checking online owner forums and resources can also provide insights into emerging problems or common issues as more 2024 models accumulate mileage.
How long will the 2024 BMW X5 last?
Long-term durability hinges on consistent upkeep. Weaknesses may emerge in the form of increased repair needs for the complex electronics, air suspension (if equipped), and potential wear on the drivetrain components. The hybrid model's battery health will also be a factor. Addressing issues promptly prevents them from escalating into more significant and costly problems.
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Entertainment options include a premium Harman Kardon sound system, available on higher trims. Driver-assistance features include lane departure warning, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert. Optional features like adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go, lane keeping assist, and parking assist plus, provide even greater convenience and safety. Safety is a priority, with numerous airbags and advanced stability control systems.
As for crash-test ratings, the BMW X5 typically performs well in evaluations conducted by the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA, earning high marks for occupant protection. Optional features enhance the safety of the vehicle. The new highway assist is very advanced and helps with long-distance driving.

How Does the 2024 BMW X5 Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
The X5's price is competitive within the segment, but the Volvo XC90 often presents a slightly more affordable option. Alternatives to consider include the Porsche Cayenne for sportier driving dynamics, the Mercedes-Benz GLE for a more luxurious ride, and the Lexus RX for potentially better long-term reliability. The Audi Q7 offers similar features and performance but might be slightly less engaging to drive. Ultimately, the best choice depends on individual priorities and preferences. All of the above are good options.

I have this car for 26,000 miles now.I have this car for 26,000 miles now. This is the best X5 that I have ever owned. The new engine is great on the xdrive 40i. No need for the M60. 0-60 in 3.9 seconds. Handling is great. Tires and much better than on the previous generation. The ride is tight and comfortable. They did an awesome job. Hopefully, this car will last as long as my previous 2010 X5.

The 2024/25 X5 has a major issue with the braking systemThe 2024/25 X5 has a major issue with the braking system and would suddenly loose brake pressure and run away. BMW has been re-calling the 24/25 models due to this issue, and seems not yet fully resolved.

My BMW X5 50 e purchased in November 2024 failed to startMy BMW X5 50 e purchased in November 2024 failed to start May 2024. BMW Roadside tried to start it remotely to no avail. It was parallel parked downtown. I was texted during the 7 hour period that I was stranded in 90+ degree heat that 6 tow companies had been dispatched to assist me. I actually saw one tow truck. They couldn’t assist me because my key fob wouldn’t work to put the vehicle into neutral. There was no way to move it to a tow truck. I was only 7 miles from the BMW dealer where I bought it! Nineteen days later, my new custom-ordered $100K BMW X5 is still in the shop. I was told the service manager was unable to replicate the problem during the couple of days he personally drove it. Supposedly a software update, new key fob coming from Germany in the near future, gas tank refill, and no-charge detail after the service manager drive it, “…should help …realize the dealer is committed to ensure my satisfactionâ€. The vehicle was taken into the shop for two other electrical issues prior to this. I am a disabled American who was stranded without assistance for hours! How am I expected to trust the vehicle to be reliable in the future? What if this happens again when I’m not downtown in a major city during the daylight? What if my grandchildren aged 1,4,7 are with me? I have requested this lemon of a vehicle be replaced. BMW corporate expects me to be satisfied with them being unable to replicate the issue (the third time they’ve been unable to replicate an issue we’ve brought to their attention in 6 months). In their last email to me, “…I sincerely hope with these recent developments you will be able to enjoy your car once again, just as you intended when you initially purchased it.†How could I possibly enjoy or even be expected to drive that vehicle again with pleasure? Would you permit your loved one to drive such an unreliable, potential danger?

Great SUV for inside city trips, still carrying BMWGreat SUV for inside city trips, still carrying BMW reputation and performs well in bad weather and hazardous roads. I was asked if RX350 would be a better option, I would recommend this SUV over Lexus RX-350, the only drawback is Lexus holds value better than BMW.

Luxury Sport Utility. The X5 50e, it's just rightPurchased 2 months ago. Driven only 535 miles. Still on the dealership's tank of gas and have 300 mile range left on remaining gas. Most drives are within 10-15 miles of my home. A couple of 20-30 mile trips so far (40-60 miles round trip). At this rate, it could be 2024 before needing to fill the tank for the first time. Thrown the X5 into Sports Mode a few times to experience the power but routinely use electric only. Stable, great control, heads up display best I've seen, autobraking and sense of the road is great. Good visibility and neither too sporty or too luxury. It's just right.

BMW vs MercedesAfter have had Mercedes since 1985 this is my First BMW. My 2024 x5 is a winner. I love almost all of it.. The only issue is the seats are not as good as the GLE Mercecedes. The Dealership is the Best!!! Avery and Gregg are as nice as they could be...

A reliability nightmareI acquired a new X5 50e with 8 miles on it. After roughly 160 miles of easy driving, the car simply died. I came one morning to find it in my garage with a severe drivetrain malfunction message that prevents the engine to turn on (cannot engage the transmission in drive mode). More malfunction messages kept on coming afterwards as well. The car got towed to the dealership and they told me the next day that the combined charged unit needs to be changed. This piece is back ordered from Germany and it would take a minimum of 7 to 10 business day to receive. They stressed the word "minimum". Not what you expect from a new vehicle from any car manufacturer, certainly not from a manufacturer of luxury cars. The best bmw has offered me initially was to pay for my Uber rides, up to a clip. The dealership refused to loan me a car because I am waiting for something that it backordered (against their policies). They then allowed me to rent at Enterprise for less than 50 USD per day. If you plan on purchasing this and do not mind such nightmares, you certainly can. Regardless, you have been warned 🙂
