Its striking design evokes emotion, while its comfortable interior and available technology offer practicality. Relative reliability and competitive pricing provide excellent value for money. The Bad

The 2016 Corvette's weaknesses can include potential electronic glitches and occasional transmission issues, particularly in the earlier model years of the C7 generation. What Problems Does the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette include electrical issues, particularly with the infotainment system, which can experience glitches or freezing. Some owners have reported transmission problems, mainly with the 8-speed automatic, experiencing rough shifting or hesitation. The Active Fuel Management (AFM) system, designed to improve fuel economy, has also been a source of complaints, with some owners reporting excessive oil consumption.
Recalls for the 2016 model have addressed issues such as potential seatbelt pretensioner malfunction and possible fuel system leaks. Long-term reliability concerns revolve around the longevity of the automatic transmission and the potential for AFM-related engine issues. Models equipped with the Z07 package, intended for track use, require more frequent and costly maintenance. Potential buyers should thoroughly inspect the car's service history and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic to identify any existing or potential problems. Early C7 models (2014-2015) had more prevalent issues with the 8-speed automatic transmission, which Chevrolet attempted to address with software updates. The 2016 model year saw some improvements, but the risk of transmission issues persists.

How long will the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette last?

With proper maintenance, a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette can provide 150,000-200,000 miles or more of service. Many owners report enjoying their Corvettes for 10+ years. Long-term durability depends heavily on driving habits and adherence to the recommended maintenance schedule. Regular oil changes, transmission fluid flushes, and cooling system maintenance are crucial. Weaknesses over time include potential wear and tear on suspension components, especially if driven frequently on rough roads or tracked. Leather seats may show wear, and electronic components can become prone to failure as the car ages. The supercharger on the Z06 may require servicing after extended high-performance use.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2016 Chevrolet Corvette features a standard 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Chevrolet MyLink, offering smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It also includes Bluetooth connectivity, USB ports, and a premium Bose audio system. Driver-assistance features include a rearview camera, available blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and front curb view camera. Safety features include standard airbags, traction control, and stability control. Optional features include a head-up display, performance data recorder, and magnetic ride control for enhanced handling.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) typically show 4 or 5-star overall safety ratings for the Corvette coupe and convertible. However, the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) does not usually conduct full crash tests on low-volume sports cars like the Corvette. The built-in tech provides a modern experience, allowing for navigation, music streaming, and access to vehicle information. The performance data recorder is a unique feature for track enthusiasts, enabling them to record and analyze their driving performance. Overall, the 2016 Corvette offers a good blend of technology, entertainment, and safety features for its class. The optional features enhance both the driving experience and safety, adding to the car's appeal.

2016 Chevrolet Corvette Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette ranged from around $55,000 for a base Stingray to $80,000+ for a fully equipped Z06. Current used market prices vary significantly based on mileage, condition, and trim, typically ranging from $35,000 to $65,000. Depreciation is moderate for Corvettes, holding their value relatively well compared to other sports cars. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, service history, and trim level. Z06 models and those with desirable options like the Z07 package tend to retain higher values. Low-mileage examples in excellent condition command premium prices. The overall demand for Corvettes helps maintain their resale value.

2016 Chevrolet Corvette Cost of Ownership

The 2016 Chevrolet Corvette is moderately costly to own. Insurance premiums are higher than average due to its sports car status and performance capabilities. Fuel costs can be significant, especially with the Z06. Maintenance costs are reasonable for routine services, but repairs can be expensive, particularly for specialized components like the supercharger or magnetic ride control. Long-term ownership costs depend heavily on driving habits and maintenance diligence. While not economical, the Corvette offers a balance between performance and cost compared to more exotic sports cars.

2016 Chevrolet Corvette Insurance

Insurance for a 2016 Chevrolet Corvette is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Convertible with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette Compare to Other Convertible?

The 2016 Chevrolet Corvette competes with vehicles like the Porsche 911, BMW M4, and Jaguar F-Type. In terms of performance, the Corvette often matches or surpasses these rivals, particularly the Z06, offering comparable or greater horsepower at a lower price point. Feature-wise, the Corvette provides a competitive level of technology and comfort. However, rivals like the Porsche 911 offer a more refined interior and advanced driver-assistance systems.
Reliability is a mixed bag; while the Corvette is generally reliable, some rivals have a stronger reputation for long-term dependability. The BMW M4 offers similar performance but can be more expensive to maintain. The Jaguar F-Type provides a more exotic and luxurious experience but may not match the Corvette's overall performance value.
Alternatives to the Corvette include the Nissan GT-R, which offers all-wheel-drive performance, and the Audi R8, which provides a more premium and sophisticated driving experience at a higher price. Depending on priorities, the Porsche 911 may be a better alternative for those seeking refinement and prestige, while the Corvette provides the best balance of performance and value in its class. For budget-conscious buyers, the Ford Mustang GT offers a similar experience at a lower price point, albeit with less refinement.

Final Verdict: Is the 2016 Chevrolet Corvette a Good Convertible?

The 2016 Chevrolet Corvette is ideal for driving enthusiasts seeking a high-performance sports car with iconic styling and accessible power at a relatively affordable price. It's worth buying, particularly on the used market, if you prioritize performance and value. A used model can offer significant savings compared to new, making it an attractive option. Consider a well-maintained Stingray or Grand Sport for a balance of performance and reliability. The Z06 is excellent for track use but requires more diligent maintenance. Ensure a pre-purchase inspection to mitigate potential issues, especially regarding the transmission and electronics. Avoid models with excessive track use or signs of neglect. Overall, the 2016 Corvette remains a compelling choice for those seeking American muscle and sports car thrills.

My 2019 Corvette

I have a 2019 Stingray 2 LT convertible. It's a loaded car that's only missing the recorder/navigation. I bought it "used" with only 224 miles on it in 2019. It's a $75K car that was only $54.5K.....$20 K off the original MSRP. Unlike many Corvette owners, this is the only Corvette I've ever owned. I don't consider it to be a 5 star car because it's not my idea of a comfortable car. Sure it's fast and stylish, but it is what it is....just not a daily driver type of car.

Just drive one!!

I’ve had a few corvettes over the years. The C7 is by far the most comfortable and fun to drive out of them all. Most bang for your buck and it holds its value.

Fun to Drive!

We have been looking to purchase a C7 Corvette for a while now. When we saw this one on-line, we thought it looked pretty good. When we saw it in person, we were very impressed. Our new 2016 Corvette is beautiful and fun to drive!

Sweet ride

For me, this C7 Z51 is one of the nicest sports cars that I've had the pleasure of driving. The one negative thing is being 6'4" at 255lb (Bodybuilder frame) makes for a snug fit. I have plenty of leg room, the bolsters are tight and I only have 1/4" to spare from the top.of my head to the removable top.

2016 C7 Corvette manual transmission.

The C7 Corvette is the last year you can get a manual transmission. I was looking for the cleanest low mileage example I could find near to where I live.
