The Good
The 2002 Chevrolet Tracker's advantages include its affordability and off-road capabilities, appealing to practical buyers.
Its compact size makes it easy to maneuver and park. Emotionally, the convertible option offers a fun, open-air experience. While not luxurious, it’s simple and functional. Fuel efficiency is reasonable for its class and age. The Tracker also offers relative reliability for older vehicles, depending on maintenance.
The Bad
Weaknesses of the 2002 Chevrolet Tracker include its limited power and somewhat dated interior. Rust can be a significant issue, especially in areas with road salt. The convertible top can leak and require maintenance. Suspension components and the automatic transmission are known to have problems as the vehicle ages. Parts availability might be limited in some regions. Always inspect for rust and leaks prior to purchase.

What Problems Does the 2002 Chevrolet Tracker Have?
Recalls for the 2002 Tracker included potential issues with the fuel system and airbags. Engine problems, such as oil leaks and cooling system malfunctions, are also reported. Long-term reliability can be a concern due to the age of the vehicle, and preventative maintenance is crucial. The 2002 model year is particularly susceptible to issues related to wear and tear, so a thorough inspection is essential before purchase. Check for proper maintenance records and evidence of prior repairs. Older Trackers in general have been known to experience issues with the evap system, resulting in check engine lights and emissions failures. The 4WD system can also require maintenance and repair over time.
How long will the 2002 Chevrolet Tracker last?
Weaknesses that emerge over time include rust, worn suspension components, transmission issues, and deteriorating rubber seals and hoses. The engine can be durable if oil changes are performed regularly and the cooling system is properly maintained. Preventative maintenance, such as fluid changes and inspections, is crucial for maximizing longevity. Neglecting maintenance will drastically shorten the lifespan and increase the likelihood of costly repairs.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Entertainment features typically included a basic AM/FM radio, with an optional CD player available on some trims. Driver-assistance features were virtually non-existent.
Safety features were basic, including front airbags and seatbelts. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were optional.
Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) were mixed, with moderate scores for frontal impacts. Side impact crash test data is more limited. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) ratings are not readily available for this vehicle.
The Tracker lacks modern amenities like Bluetooth connectivity, navigation systems, or advanced safety technologies such as electronic stability control or lane departure warning. The focus was on basic functionality and affordability rather than advanced technology. The side impact protection was minimal compared to modern vehicles. The convertible version offered less structural integrity than the hard-top versions.

2002 Chevrolet Tracker Prices and Market Value
Depreciation has been significant due to the vehicle's age and the availability of newer, more technologically advanced vehicles. Resale value is affected by factors such as overall condition, rust, maintenance history, mileage, and whether it's a 2-door convertible or 4-door SUV. Models in excellent condition with low mileage and a clean title command the highest prices. The convertible models sometimes hold slightly more value due to their novelty. High mileage examples or those with significant rust sell for very little.

How Does the 2002 Chevrolet Tracker Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
In terms of performance, the Tracker's engines were less powerful compared to some rivals, particularly the RAV4, which offered a peppier engine.
Features were basic in the Tracker compared to competitors that offered more advanced technology and comfort options. Reliability is comparable to the Suzuki, but slightly less than the Toyota RAV4. The Kia Sportage was similar in terms of reliability and features.
Price-wise, the Tracker was typically more affordable than the RAV4, but competitive with the Suzuki and Kia.
Alternatives to the 2002 Chevrolet Tracker include:
Suzuki Vitara/Grand Vitara: Very similar to the Tracker as it's mechanically related.
Toyota RAV4: A more reliable and refined option, albeit more expensive. Offers better performance and fuel economy.
Honda CR-V: Another reliable choice with better fuel economy and more practical interior space.
For someone prioritizing budget and a small, off-road capable vehicle, the Tracker or Vitara are suitable. However, the RAV4 and CR-V are superior choices for overall reliability and performance, if budget allows.

gets me from point a to point bThis car doesn't look like the gem I've seen at other stores, but this car runs like a top! Everything works even the 4wheel drive!

Great, reliable SUV!This is the 2nd car I've owned. Never had any major issues with it. Very reliable suv! The exterior look is great, as well as the interior. Some part of the interior are a little cheaply made.

Track AttackI purchased my 2002 Tracker ZR2 4 door V6 used with 80k miles. I owned it for more than 2 years without issue. Its a solid little 4x4 that does everything I needed it to do. Nimble fun simple driving SUV. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but gets the job done. It is built on a truck (ladder) chassis unlike the CRV and Rav4 which are car chassis based vehicles. Very tough and will get you off road in a hurry with on-the -fly 4 wheel drive. It was inexpensive to buy and routine maintenance kept it going without fail. Only reason I got rid of it was to get something a little bigger. Will miss the Track Attack
