The Good
The 2004 Chevrolet Tracker offers decent off-road performance for adventurous buyers. Its simple design and relatively good fuel economy appeal to practical buyers. It's an affordable and easy-to-maintain vehicle. The compact size makes it easy to maneuver and park in urban environments.
The Bad
Weaknesses of the 2004 Chevrolet Tracker include a cramped interior, especially in the 2-door model. The engine lacks power, particularly at highway speeds. Reliability can be a concern, with potential issues in older models related to rust, suspension components, and drivetrain. The safety ratings are also not very high, so it is important to consider this when purchasing.

What Problems Does the 2004 Chevrolet Tracker Have?
Recalls have been issued for various issues over the years, including problems with the fuel system and airbags. It's important to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls. Long-term reliability can be a concern due to the age of the vehicle. Proper maintenance is crucial to avoid major issues. Early model years of the Tracker (pre-2000) had different engines and slight differences in design. The 2004 model shares more commonality with the later Trackers, but still suffers from age-related problems.
How long will the 2004 Chevrolet Tracker last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features include standard front airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS) may be optional. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) generally show marginal performance, especially in side-impact collisions. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) ratings are not particularly impressive either. Optional features were limited, but could include air conditioning, upgraded audio systems, and alloy wheels. The lack of advanced safety features and limited technology are significant drawbacks compared to modern vehicles. The 2004 Chevrolet Tracker prioritizes simplicity and affordability over cutting-edge technology and safety.

How Does the 2004 Chevrolet Tracker Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
The Tracker's off-road capability is similar to the Suzuki Vitara, but inferior to a Jeep. The Honda CR-V excels in reliability and on-road comfort. However, the Tracker's affordability is a major advantage. In terms of fuel economy, the 4-cylinder Tracker fares competitively.
Alternatives to consider include a used Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 for greater reliability and comfort, although they will come at a higher price point. If off-road capability is a priority, a used Jeep Wrangler (TJ generation) might be a better choice. For budget-conscious buyers, a well-maintained Suzuki Vitara offers a similar experience at a potentially lower cost.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDHAD ONE! A deer hit me, It was totaled. ðŸ˜Â😠I bought it used, it was about 4 years old. I put about 200,000 miles on it. Great SUV! 4WD got me where I needed to go, if I needed it. What I liked the most was I was able to see out without something in the way. Just turn and look, easy peasy! The bad, I would say if it was windy out, you got blown around a bit. Definitely want another one and I highly recommend this vehicle. 🤗🤗

ReliableThis is the most reliable car I’ve ever owned. I have had this car for two years and I even bought it used with a pretty good bit of miles on it. But I would drive it anywhere!

Best bang for buck!We bought this tracker 6 years ago with 70,000 km on it, and it has never let us down. Everyone we talked to who has owned a tracker has said it is one of the most reliable vehicles they've ever owned. They last for many years. Every summer we tow a 14' boat and trailer. In the winter and the freezing cold, it always starts.

Surprisingly greatLove this little Chevy. Ample room in the front. AWD and a breeze to park. We bought it used with over 141000 miles on it and it's in excellent condition. It's the first American made car I've ever bought and I'm impressed.

Pretty cool car!FUN- FUN -FUN! Recently bought it knowing it will need a better 5 speed tranny soon due to a mid bearing making noise. Found one. This is as close to being a sports car as I'll probably ever get. It handles well, drives well on and off road, and at nearly 16 years old it still looks like new inside and out. It would have been nice if it sported a 2.5 liter engine but the 2.0 is better than the 1.6. All I have to say other than what I just said is...Move Over, Jeeps!
