What Problems Does the 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 include front-end suspension issues, such as premature wear of ball joints and tie rod ends. This is a common issue in heavy-duty trucks and can lead to steering problems if not addressed. Rust, particularly in areas that use road salt, is another concern. Body panels, undercarriage components, and brake lines are susceptible. Some owners report electrical issues, ranging from sensor malfunctions to problems with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM). Transmission issues, particularly with the automatic transmission, have also been reported, including slippage and rough shifting. Recalls have been issued for various issues including potential fuel leakage and airbag malfunctions. Long-term reliability concerns center around the longevity of the front-end components and potential for rust. The Cummins diesel engine is generally considered very reliable, but proper maintenance is crucial. Regular oil changes and fuel filter replacements are vital for its longevity. The 2007 model year doesn't have specific, unique problems compared to the surrounding years (2006-2008), but a thorough pre-purchase inspection is always recommended, focusing on these common trouble areas.

How long will the 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 last?

Given its age, a well-maintained 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 could easily have accumulated 200,000+ miles. With diligent maintenance, particularly of the Cummins diesel engine, many owners report reaching 300,000 miles or more. However, long-term durability is highly dependent on maintenance habits. Neglecting fluid changes, failing to address suspension issues promptly, or ignoring rust can significantly shorten its lifespan. Weaknesses over time primarily involve suspension components, rust, and potential electrical gremlins. The engine itself is generally robust if properly cared for. Regular servicing is the key to maximizing its years of service.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Dodge Ram 3500's built-in tech and entertainment features were fairly basic for its time. Standard features typically included an AM/FM radio with a CD player. Higher trims offered options like a multi-disc CD changer and satellite radio. Navigation was available as an optional add-on in the Laramie trim. Driver-assistance features were limited. Anti-lock brakes (ABS) were standard, but electronic stability control (ESC) was not universally included.
Safety features included front airbags. Side airbags were optional on some trims. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) vary depending on the cab configuration. The Quad Cab generally performed better than the Regular Cab in frontal crash tests. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) did not conduct extensive crash testing on this model year. Optional features included things like power-adjustable pedals, heated seats (on Laramie), and an overhead console with trip computer. Don't expect modern conveniences like Bluetooth connectivity or advanced safety systems like blind-spot monitoring or lane departure warning. Its technology suite reflects the standards of the mid-2000s, emphasizing functionality over advanced features.

2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 ranged from approximately $25,000 for a base ST model to around $45,000+ for a fully-equipped Laramie with the Cummins diesel. Current used market prices vary considerably based on condition, mileage, and engine. Expect to pay anywhere from $10,000 to $30,000. Depreciation has been significant, as is typical for trucks of this age. Resale value is heavily influenced by the engine; Cummins-equipped models command a premium. Condition, mileage, and documented maintenance history are also major factors. Trucks with low mileage, minimal rust, and a clean title will fetch higher prices.

2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Cost of Ownership

Owning a 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 can be costly. Insurance rates are typically higher for heavy-duty trucks. Fuel costs, especially with the Cummins diesel, can be significant, although the diesel offers better mileage when towing. Maintenance and repair costs can be substantial, particularly for front-end work and rust repair. The Cummins engine, while durable, can be expensive to repair. Long-term ownership costs are above average compared to smaller vehicles. It's not an economical choice but a practical one for those requiring serious work capabilities.

How Does the 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 Compare to Other Pickup Truck?

The 2007 Dodge Ram 3500's key rivals include the Ford F-350 and the Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra 3500. In terms of performance, the Ram 3500 with the Cummins diesel is generally considered competitive, offering excellent torque and towing capacity, comparable to Ford's Power Stroke and GM's Duramax diesels. Features are similar across the board, with each offering various trim levels with increasing levels of comfort and convenience. Reliability is a mixed bag; all three brands have potential issues. The Cummins is generally considered more reliable than some iterations of the Power Stroke. In terms of price, the Ram 3500 often offered slightly more value compared to similarly equipped Ford and GM trucks.
Alternatives worth considering would be the Ford F-350, which provides a similar robust experience and towing capabilities. The Chevrolet Silverado/GMC Sierra 3500 offer comparable performance and features with a slightly different driving feel and interior design. The best choice depends on individual preferences for styling, features, and perceived reliability. All three are solid choices in the heavy-duty truck segment.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 a Good Pickup Truck?

The 2007 Dodge Ram 3500 is ideal for individuals or businesses needing a powerful and capable heavy-duty truck for towing and hauling. Whether it's worth buying depends on its condition and price. A well-maintained, low-mileage example with the Cummins diesel can be a worthwhile purchase. However, be prepared for potential maintenance costs associated with an older truck. Buying used is the only option, and a thorough pre-purchase inspection is essential. Focus on models with documented maintenance history and minimal rust. Higher trims like the Laramie offer more comfort, but the ST or SLT trims can be good value if the primary concern is utility.

Capable of daily driving to the toughest towing.

Great leg room with plenty of features to accommodate to the new era, despite it being 13 years old. Will do any job necessary and have no problems along the way. I have traveled long and far with my vehicle and had minimal problems with it.

This truck has it all!

At first I was only looking for a truck that could tow, which this truck definitely can, and it feels as if it's not pulling anything. In fact, it's difficult not to speed because the ride is so smooth. But I also ended up absolutely pleased with the quad cab, 4 full doors and plenty of legroom for the 2nd row of seats, along with the seats being very comfortable. With a tank that big, gas lasts a while, and although the truck is huge, it doesn't take long to get used to and really like. My advice is to think long-term because it's a personal investment, since vehicles don't typically appreciate in value. Make sure this is truly what you and your family needs.

Best diesel engines on the market

You'll never find a personal truck that is full of power and outstanding low end torque that in an 8500lb truck gets 20+ mpg all day long, also an engine that you can still work on if need be... 6 in a row makes em go

Great truck, but front end parts wearout fast

Amazing tow rig with great power. I use it as a dailey driver and pull a 4 horse GN trailer with it. Other then the front end wearing out tge truck has had no isses. The 6.7 cummins with 6spd is the best.

This is one of the best work trucks to ever own.

Its towing capabilities are excellent. The frame is outlasting with the 4x4. The inside is a little on the cheaper side but will meet your needs. I would recommend this vehicle to anyone who needs a truck.
