The Good
The 2012 GT-R offers blistering performance and surprisingly good reliability for its class. The design is aggressive and purposeful. While not luxurious, it provides adequate comfort for a sports car. From a practical standpoint, it offers strong value for the performance. Emotionally, the GT-R delivers an exhilarating driving experience and the prestige of owning a performance icon.
The Bad
The 2012 GT-R's weaknesses include a firm ride, which can be uncomfortable on rough roads. Transmission issues, particularly with hard launches, are a potential concern. Maintenance costs can be high, especially for specialized parts and service. The interior, while functional, lacks the premium feel of some competitors. Watch out for modifications that can void warranty and increase the risk of mechanical problems.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2012 Nissan GT-R Have?
Recalls for the 2012 GT-R have been relatively limited, but it's always best to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date information. Long-term reliability is generally good, but consistent and proper maintenance is critical. Regular fluid changes (engine oil, transmission fluid, differential fluid) are essential to prevent issues. The all-wheel-drive system is robust but can require maintenance over time.
Specific to the 2012 model year, some owners have reported concerns about the paint quality, with chipping or peeling being observed in certain cases. Overall, the GT-R is known for its performance, but it's important to be aware of these potential issues and address them proactively to ensure long-term reliability.
How long will the 2012 Nissan GT-R last?
Long-term durability hinges on preventing transmission issues and addressing potential problems with the all-wheel-drive system. Weaknesses over time can include wear on suspension components, deterioration of rubber seals, and potential rust in areas with harsh winters. Regular inspections are recommended to identify and address these issues before they become major problems.
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are relatively limited compared to modern vehicles. It includes Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), Traction Control System (TCS), and Anti-lock Braking System (ABS). It does not have modern features like adaptive cruise control or lane departure warning.
Safety features include front and side airbags, as well as curtain airbags. The GT-R has a reinforced body structure designed to absorb impact energy. Crash-test ratings for the 2012 GT-R are not comprehensive, as the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA did not fully evaluate the vehicle.
Optional features were limited, with the Black Edition offering unique interior trim and Recaro seats as the primary upgrade. Overall, the 2012 GT-R focused more on performance than cutting-edge technology, but it provides essential safety and entertainment features for its time.

How Does the 2012 Nissan GT-R Compare to Other Passenger Sedan?
In terms of reliability, the GT-R is generally considered to be more reliable than the Audi R8, but perhaps slightly less reliable than the Porsche 911 or Corvette. The GT-R's features are competitive, but its interior is less luxurious than the Porsche or Audi.
Alternatives depend on individual priorities. If ultimate performance per dollar is the goal, the GT-R remains a strong contender. If luxury and refinement are more important, the Porsche 911 or Audi R8 might be better choices. For a more traditional sports car experience, the Corvette is a solid option. Similar alternatives that balance performance and price include the BMW M5 (for a sedan option) or the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG.

Acceleration artifact0-60mph is especially fast. I used to own an Audi S7, which is far less than the performance of GT-R. Broken 60mph in 3.7 seconds. But the interior is old.

Good Value for the PriceThe vehicle looks great online but in person it is even more beautiful. Handles nicely. The All Wheel Drive allows for nice acceleration. All in all, great vehicle.

Even better than the last oneI like this car even more than the previous model. Everything I complained about the last car has been rectified with this purchase. All I had issue with were the seats and ride. This version has been modified with a new seat, suspension setup, and power. It's exactly what I would have done to my 2011 model.
