The 2015 Nissan GT-R, a high-performance sports car with a legacy dating back to the Skyline GT-R, is a coupe known for its exceptional performance. Model years span from 2009 onwards with various updates. Key trims include the Premium, Black Edition, and Nismo. The original pricing ranged from around $103,000 to $150,000+. Its advanced all-wheel-drive system and powerful twin-turbo V6 engine set it apart, delivering supercar performance at a comparatively accessible price, hence its popularity.
The Good

The 2015 GT-R offers blistering performance and surprising reliability for its class. Its iconic design and exclusivity appeal emotionally, while the relatively reasonable running costs (compared to other supercars) and all-weather capability make it practical. Comfort is acceptable for a performance car, and it provides good value given its capabilities.

The Bad

Weaknesses of the 2015 GT-R include a firm ride, dated interior design, and relatively high running costs compared to non-sports cars. Watch out for transmission issues in models that have been heavily tracked or modified. Also, be aware that the run-flat tires can be expensive to replace, and the front lip is prone to scraping.

What Problems Does the 2015 Nissan GT-R Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2015 Nissan GT-R mainly revolve around the transmission. Some owners have reported rough shifting or premature wear, particularly in models that have been driven aggressively or modified. This is a common concern with high-performance vehicles subjected to track use. Another area of concern can be the braking system. The GT-R's Brembo brakes are powerful, but they can be prone to squealing and require frequent pad replacements if used extensively for performance driving.

Recalls for the 2015 GT-R were relatively limited, but it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) database for any specific recalls related to the VIN of a particular vehicle. Long-term reliability is generally good for a performance car, but regular maintenance is critical. Issues such as differential whine and suspension component wear may arise over time, especially with high mileage.

Earlier model years (2009-2011) had more widely reported transmission issues, but Nissan made improvements in subsequent years. However, preventative maintenance and careful driving habits are essential for preserving the longevity of the 2015 model's drivetrain.

How long will the 2015 Nissan GT-R last?

With proper maintenance, a 2015 Nissan GT-R can easily achieve 150,000 miles or more. Many owners report reliable service for 10+ years with diligent upkeep. However, longevity heavily depends on driving habits. Aggressive driving and missed maintenance intervals significantly shorten lifespan. Long-term durability is generally good, but potential weaknesses include transmission wear, particularly if the car is tracked or modified. Suspension components and bushings may also require replacement over time, as well as potential turbocharger issues at higher mileage. Routine fluid changes and inspections are crucial to maximizing the car's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Nissan GT-R comes standard with a user-friendly infotainment system featuring a multi-function display that provides performance data and vehicle information. The standard entertainment features include a Bose audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, and a navigation system. Driver-assistance features are relatively limited compared to modern vehicles, primarily focusing on enhancing performance rather than active safety. It includes a rearview camera but lacks advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) such as lane departure warning or automatic emergency braking.

Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and a suite of airbags (front, side, and curtain). Optional features were primarily related to trim level upgrades (e.g., upgraded seats, interior trim).

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA are limited for the GT-R, as it is a low-volume sports car. However, it is engineered with robust safety features to protect occupants in the event of a collision. Given its design as a performance vehicle, safety focuses on stability and control at high speeds.

2015 Nissan GT-R Prices and Market Value

The 2015 Nissan GT-R had a starting MSRP of around $103,000, with the Nismo edition reaching upwards of $150,000. Current used market prices range from approximately $60,000 to $90,000+, depending on mileage, condition, and trim. The GT-R depreciates, but it holds its value relatively well compared to other high-performance cars. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition (especially accident history), maintenance records, modifications (stock examples tend to command higher prices), and trim level (Nismo models are the most sought-after). Low mileage and a clean title significantly boost resale value.

2015 Nissan GT-R Cost of Ownership

The 2015 Nissan GT-R is generally costly to own. Insurance premiums are high due to its performance capabilities and repair costs. Fuel economy is poor (around 19 mpg combined), adding to running costs. Maintenance, including specialized services like transmission flushes, can be expensive. Repairs can also be costly, especially for drivetrain or electronics issues. While not economical, it's arguably more affordable than some other supercars with similar performance. Long-term ownership requires budgeting for potentially significant maintenance and repair expenses.

Insurance for a 2015 Nissan GT-R is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Coupe with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Nissan GT-R Compare to Other Coupe?

The 2015 Nissan GT-R competes with cars like the Porsche 911, Audi R8, and Chevrolet Corvette Z06. In terms of performance, the GT-R offers comparable acceleration and handling to these rivals, often at a lower price point. However, the Porsche 911 offers a more refined driving experience and a wider range of models. The Audi R8 provides a more luxurious interior and striking design. The Corvette Z06 delivers exceptional performance at a significantly lower price, but lacks the GT-R's all-wheel-drive grip.

Regarding features, the GT-R's infotainment system is dated compared to its rivals. Reliability is generally good, but the GT-R's transmission can be a weak point if abused. The Porsche 911 is known for its reliability, while the Audi R8 offers a more premium ownership experience.

Alternatives depend on priorities. If raw performance per dollar is key, the Corvette Z06 is compelling. For a more refined and versatile sports car, the Porsche 911 is a better choice. The Audi R8 offers a blend of performance and luxury. For all-weather performance and unique technology, the GT-R remains a strong contender.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 Nissan GT-R a Good Coupe?

The 2015 Nissan GT-R is ideal for enthusiasts seeking incredible performance and all-weather capability at a relatively accessible price point. It's worth buying used if you can find a well-maintained example with documented service history and no signs of abuse (especially regarding the transmission). A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended. The Premium trim offers the best value, while the Nismo provides even greater performance, but at a significant premium. If you value raw speed and don't mind a slightly dated interior, the 2015 GT-R is a compelling choice. However, buyers should be prepared for higher running costs than a typical sports car.

Best Sports Car I purchased

This car is amazing, always getting some recognition by other motorists. Only cons for this car is, parts are expensive such as brakes like rotor and pads. Does not have a spare tires so it uses run flat tires which expensive also. Something you can expect for a 100k sports car. Doing maintenance should be done by you or else you going to be spending a lot of money on a dealership or auto shop. And for the pros I only have one word Ò€œ AmazingÒ€.

Fastest car I've been in

NISSAN GTR's are built reliable, But the 750hp Nissan GTR was the fastest car I've ever been in. And for the price the car was listed it was def. a steal. Only thing is the interior lacks from anything below a 2016.

Too Much To Sum Up

What else can I say about the legendary Nissan GTR? - It is by a bit, the most powerful car I have owned to date. I will bravely also add, personally, there may never be another option in car choices in the future. I come from a long line in ownership of Japanese built vehicles, mainly Honda's; now they are all Nissans. Next purchase: I'd bet on another GTR. Four seater, supercar power and striking appeal - dispite all opinions, its a real looker and getting better with age.

It is a race car not a sports car

Ever wondered what it feels like inside a Race Car, how fast it goes how quick is the acceleration just buy a GT-R no other car can justify that feeling trust me. You should stay away from GT-R if you are lookin for a comfortable, smooth and quiet drive. You would hear all sorts of parts trying to make those 545 horses run the derby. They didn't do a proper insulation I guess to keep the weight minimum but who cares it is a "Race car" well for me it is music to ears those parts working as I am a car enthusiast.
