The 2014 Nissan NV200 is a compact cargo van designed for urban businesses. Introduced to the US market in 2013, it offered a smaller, more fuel-efficient alternative to larger vans. Its body style is a traditional cargo van with a high roof, maximizing interior space. Key trims include the S and SV. The original pricing range was roughly $20,000 to $22,000. Its maneuverability, compact size, and efficient fuel economy made it a popular choice for small business owners and delivery services operating in tight city environments.
The Good

The 2014 NV200 provides practical advantages like impressive fuel efficiency and a spacious cargo area within a compact footprint, appealing to budget-conscious businesses. Its maneuverability and ease of parking are a plus in urban settings. While not luxurious, it offers a comfortable-enough driving experience for daily use, and its simple design makes it easy to maintain, adding to its value proposition.

The Bad

The 2014 NV200 has known weaknesses including its modest engine power, which can feel strained when fully loaded or climbing hills. The interior materials are basic and not very durable. The ride quality can be harsh. Owners should watch out for potential transmission issues and premature brake wear. Rust can also be a concern in colder climates.

What Problems Does the 2014 Nissan NV200 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2014 Nissan NV200 often revolve around the CVT transmission. Some owners have reported issues such as slipping, shuddering, and premature failure, requiring costly repairs or replacements. Engine issues, while less common, can also occur, including problems with the ignition coils and sensors. Another area of concern is the braking system, with some owners reporting premature brake wear and rotor warping.

Recalls for the 2014 NV200 have included issues related to the fuel sending unit, which could lead to inaccurate fuel gauge readings, and potential steering column issues. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recall work.

Long-term reliability concerns center around the durability of the interior components, particularly the seats and trim pieces, which can show wear and tear relatively quickly. Additionally, rust can be a problem in regions with harsh winters or heavy road salt usage. Maintaining proper fluid changes, especially for the CVT transmission, is critical to mitigating potential long-term issues. Regularly inspecting the brakes and suspension components is also recommended to ensure safe and reliable operation.

How long will the 2014 Nissan NV200 last?

With consistent maintenance, a 2014 Nissan NV200 can potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. Years of service are more dependent on driving habits and environment, but 10+ years is achievable. Long-term durability can be affected by the CVT transmission, which is a known weak point. Regular fluid changes and avoiding harsh driving can extend its lifespan. Rust, especially in areas with road salt, can also shorten the vehicle's lifespan. Interior components and suspension parts may also require replacement over time, impacting overall reliability.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Nissan NV200 offers a basic level of technology and safety features, focusing on practicality rather than luxury. Standard tech includes an AM/FM radio with two speakers, power windows, and power door locks. The SV trim offers optional upgrades like Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling and audio streaming, cruise control, and a rearview camera, which enhances driver assistance during parking and maneuvering.

Driver-assistance features are limited, primarily relying on basic systems like Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD). Safety features include standard front airbags, side-impact airbags, and roof-mounted curtain airbags for occupant protection in the event of a collision. Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) and Traction Control System (TCS) are also standard, aiding in stability and control.

Crash-test ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) should be consulted for a comprehensive safety assessment. Keep in mind that crash test results can vary by model year and testing methodology.

Overall, the 2014 NV200 prioritizes functionality and affordability over advanced technology and extensive driver-assistance systems. The available optional features on the SV trim provide some enhancements, but the tech remains relatively simple compared to newer vehicles.

2014 Nissan NV200 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2014 Nissan NV200 had a starting MSRP around $20,000 for the S trim and slightly higher for the SV trim. Current used market prices typically range from $7,000 to $14,000, depending on mileage, condition, and location. The NV200 depreciates significantly, primarily due to its utilitarian nature and the availability of newer, more feature-rich competitors. Factors affecting resale value include overall condition, maintenance records, and whether any major repairs or replacements (like the transmission) have been performed. Lower mileage and a clean title will command higher prices.

2014 Nissan NV200 Cost of Ownership

The 2014 Nissan NV200 is generally economical to own. Insurance costs are typically lower than larger vans. Fuel economy is decent for its class, averaging around 24 mpg combined. Maintenance costs are relatively low due to its simple design. However, potential CVT transmission repairs can significantly increase long-term ownership costs. Regular maintenance, such as oil changes and brake inspections, is crucial to prevent major issues. Overall, excluding major repairs, it's a cost-effective option for businesses.

2014 Nissan NV200 Insurance

Insurance for a 2014 Nissan NV200 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle Van with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2014 Nissan NV200 Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Van?

The 2014 Nissan NV200 competes with vehicles like the Ford Transit Connect and Ram ProMaster City. In terms of performance, the NV200's 2.0L engine is less powerful than the engine options available in the Transit Connect. Feature-wise, the NV200 offers basic amenities, whereas the Transit Connect often provides more advanced tech and comfort features, even in base trims. Reliability is a key differentiator; the NV200's CVT transmission has been a common source of problems, potentially making the Ford Transit Connect a more reliable choice. Price-wise, the NV200 is generally more affordable than the Transit Connect, both new and used.

The Ram ProMaster City, while another competitor, often comes at a slightly higher price point and offers a more robust feel and slightly better performance. In terms of alternatives, if reliability and performance are priorities, the Ford Transit Connect (avoiding early model years with potential transmission issues) is a better option, despite the higher cost. If budget is the primary concern and the NV200's known issues are thoroughly checked, it can still be a viable option for light-duty commercial use. However, carefully weighing the potential for transmission repairs is crucial when making a decision.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Nissan NV200 a Good Sport Utility Vehicle Van?

The 2014 Nissan NV200 is ideal for small business owners or delivery services needing a compact, fuel-efficient cargo van for urban environments. It's worth buying used if the price is right, and a thorough inspection reveals no major issues, particularly with the CVT transmission. Opting for the SV trim provides added convenience features like Bluetooth and a rearview camera. It's best suited for those prioritizing affordability and maneuverability over power and advanced features. Consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic to assess the condition of the transmission and other critical components before committing to a purchase. Newer, more reliable alternatives may be a better long-term investment despite the higher initial cost.

Bought it with 70k miles, lots of small problems

I bought it 3 months ago with 70k on it It’s been a decent little van to get the job done as a carpenter. But 3 months and 3,000 miles later I’m realizing how cheaply made it is. No issues with the motion/drive train parts but all the little things are breaking/ out of alignment Pros: -seems like a well made, reliable motor and drive train. We’ll see. -comfortable seat. - good amount of cargo space. Passenger seat fold down and can then accommodate a few pieces 10’ material. - got it for a good price for the mileage and im confident the mechanical aspects will last a while. - all the doors have gotten out of a alignment/won’t shut properly -the door locks love to jam in the the locked position making them unable to shut. -the gas cap is made of beer can metal and is super flimsy. Mine has a whole routine of getting it to open. -already have torn through 2 armrests on the drivers seat -the material on the steering wheel wears off leaving black rubber dust everywhere. - 0 insulation in a steel box (yes I know it’s a cargo van) along with an incredibly weak/loud heating system makes it an ice box. Takes about an hour of driving before the cabin hits a comfortable temp. - Super curvy design and poor mounting points on the interior makes it incredibly difficult to build-out shelves/cabinetry/platform ext. -absolutely terrible in the snow. Even with new tires (they don’t make studded snows for this vehicle) - the fenders/attachment brackets snap at the smallest touch. - rust pitting is happening fast on the roof - it’s the ugliest car in existence (yes, I bought it but also, you just don’t get used to it) - got it for a good price for the mileage but I’m pretty sure the bells and whistles/cheaply made body/ interior parts are going to slowly ruin its value.

PERFECT WORK VAN! Easy to drive and feature packed

This van is a pleasure to drive, though it could have more power. So much space inside, easy to load/unload with low floor, dual sliding doors and fold away back doors! Feature packed for a work van; mine had navigation, bluetooth, steering wheel controls, keyless entry, alarm, xm radio and power everything! Great little van for a very affordable price.

Good Work Vehicle

I down sized from a much larger van. It's reliable and descent gas mileage. Issues: In very cold winters (15 to minus ???) the transmission will not shift out of first untill throughly warmed up, about 10 minutes. High wind warnings on highway (it's a light weight vehicle). Interior cab can take a while before it warms up. Original tires are very loud, swapped to 4 snow tires last winter and haven't taken them off yet (much quieter) and much better in snow. It can't hold as much equipment as previous vehicle (length of rear cargo bay) but is workable (roof racks highly recommened). Get's the job done!!

Van performs well in a commercial environment

We use this vehicle for Commercial cleaning and haul about 1000 lbs of equipment to do our work. So far 17K miles The van has performed VERY well. The 3 doors in the cargo area make access to tools easy and while we do not use any cargo bins the ability to add them is still there if needed. As far as the roof mounted cargo racks make sure to explain to your guys the ladder needs to be lifted off the back the doors extend well behind the rear rack and the ladder will scratch yup the top of the doors if you allow them to lean the ladder to load it or remove it. Interior is good but...they need to fix the cup holders they are WAYYY too low and forward and makes getting your drink a pain. Also the door window is high and makes using a drive up ATM somewhat of a planning exercise. So far the van hasd had no tire issues and I have no idea what the first poster is talking about as there are no less than 5 tire manufacturers making commercial high ply tires for this van. As far as fuel economy it has replaced a E-250 van ( with much less equipment) and has almost covered its car payment in fuel savings. That said the 10 gallon tank means you are looking for a gas station at about 250 miles so plan accordingly if you are using it for long trips. I would reccomend this vehicle for commercial use.

Very Disappointed on June 30, 2015

Many issues with my 2013 Nissan NV 200

Major issues with tires and wear. This vehicle does not stand up to commercial use for my company. Tires wear out every 6 months, tires roar and make loud noises. Only 1 brand of tires available which the dealer sells of course. Very dangerous, I feel like I am in a danger trap, swerving, difficulties steering. Have owned this van for 14 months, extremely dissatisfied with the vehicle. Nissan is not willing to fix this problem so I'm stuck with a new van that doesn't stand up to the claims the dealer made with me when I purchased it. This is not a durable commercial vehicle, I regret this purchase highly and I'm stuck with it and it's problems. It's a danger trap that Nissan is not willing to improve or admit to. Don't buy this problem, you will regret it. Buy a real commercial vehicle, this one is a headache!

Happy Camper on November 4, 2014

Great vehicle-I LOVE my van

I Had an Altima which I loved, but I needed a van to carry large things with out needing to lift them. I saw a transit van and went to look but the seats were not comfortable enough for me to travel in. So I checked to see what other small vans were for sale and found that Nissan had one called the NV200. My van has no back window but that does not matter because the mirrors and the backup camera do a great job it is easier to handle than the car and gets the best mileage for its class. The seats are made of the NASA material in the TV ads just like the car with all the good adjusters and I could drive for hours in comfort. it has blue tooth for the phone and an excellent independent NAV system so you don't run your phone down trying to find your destination, it will take input from devices has sirus if you want it and speakers in the back to deepen the sound it stayed remarkably cool in the summertime. I am a happy camper only thing I would change is to push the camera button when I am moving forward to see directly behind me. like glancing at a rear view mirror

Solid typical commercial vehicle, built to last

Pleased with van so far, owned several vans so I feel I can compare with experience. Have only had it a short time. It performs very well and exceeds general performance for a cargo van. The coupling of the cvt along with the transversely mounted engine directly over the front wheels seems to give more than enough traction. Although it only has 131 hp there's plenty of pep. It's as simple as driving a golf cart. So far only 1300 miles but happy going from Santa Fe to Taos and all over mountainous terrain, the cvt takes away all up and down shifting, no strain noticed.
