The 2020 Volvo S60 is a compact luxury sedan representing Volvo's commitment to Scandinavian design and safety. Part of the third generation, it was available from 2019-present. Key trims include Momentum, R-Design, and Inscription, each offering a unique blend of features and styling. Its popularity stems from its elegant interior, comfortable ride, advanced safety technology, and a strong focus on environmental responsibility. Pricing ranged from approximately $37,000 to $56,000 new.
The Good

The 2020 Volvo S60 offers a compelling blend of performance, comfort, and style. Its turbocharged engines deliver adequate power. The luxurious interior and comfortable seats appeal to the emotional buyer, while the car's reputation for safety, fuel efficiency, and relative value compared to rivals satisfies the practical buyer. The sleek Scandinavian design further enhances its appeal.

The Bad

Some potential weaknesses of the 2020 Volvo S60 include the sometimes-clunky infotainment system, which can be distracting to use while driving. Additionally, the rear seat legroom is less generous than some competitors. Early models might have experienced minor electrical glitches, so reviewing the vehicle history report is advisable.

What Problems Does the 2020 Volvo S60 Have?

The 2020 Volvo S60, while generally reliable, has had some reported issues. Some owners have reported problems with the infotainment system, experiencing glitches, slow response times, or connectivity issues with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There have also been reports of minor electrical issues, such as problems with sensors or lighting.
Recalls for the 2020 Volvo S60 have been issued for issues like potential problems with the automatic emergency braking system, which could lead to it not functioning correctly, and for issues with the fuel pump. It's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls before purchasing.
Long-term reliability concerns generally revolve around the complexity of the electronics and the potential for issues with the turbocharged and supercharged engines (T6 and T8 variants). Regular maintenance, including timely oil changes and fluid checks, is critical for preserving long-term reliability. While the S60 benefits from Volvo's reputation for safety, owners should be aware of these potential issues and ensure proper maintenance and servicing.

How long will the 2020 Volvo S60 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2020 Volvo S60 can realistically achieve 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Regular oil changes (every 7,500-10,000 miles), timely fluid flushes, and addressing any issues promptly are crucial. Long-term durability hinges on the care given to the complex turbocharged engines and the electrical systems. Weaknesses can emerge in the infotainment system's reliability over time, and suspension components might require replacement depending on driving conditions. Rust is generally not a significant issue thanks to Volvo's corrosion protection measures.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2020 Volvo S60 is equipped with a comprehensive suite of built-in tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. The standard 9-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen infotainment system controls navigation, audio, climate, and vehicle settings. It includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility.
Standard driver-assistance features include lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, and a rearview camera. Optional features include blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist (semi-autonomous driving), and park assist.
Safety is a Volvo hallmark. The 2020 S60 earned excellent crash-test ratings from both the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety), where it achieved a Top Safety Pick+, and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), receiving a 5-star overall safety rating. These ratings reflect the S60's robust construction and advanced safety technologies, making it a very safe vehicle for occupants.

2020 Volvo S60 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2020 Volvo S60 ranged from approximately $37,000 for the base Momentum trim to around $56,000 for the top-of-the-line Polestar Engineered. Current used market prices typically range from $25,000 to $40,000 depending on mileage, condition, trim level, and location. Depreciation is moderate for a luxury sedan. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, maintenance history, and whether it has desirable optional features. Models with lower mileage and a clean accident history command higher prices.

2020 Volvo S60 Cost of Ownership

The 2020 Volvo S60's ownership costs are generally moderate for a luxury sedan. Insurance premiums are comparable to rivals. Fuel costs depend on the engine choice, with the T5 being the most economical. Maintenance costs can be higher than non-luxury brands due to specialized parts and service. Repairs can be expensive, particularly for complex engine or electrical issues. Overall, it's not the most economical car in its class, but it's not excessively costly either, especially if well-maintained.

2020 Volvo S60 Insurance

Insurance for a 2020 Volvo S60 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2020 Volvo S60 Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2020 Volvo S60 competes with other compact luxury sedans such as the BMW 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz C-Class, Audi A4, and Lexus IS. In terms of performance, the BMW 3 Series offers sportier handling, while the Mercedes-Benz C-Class provides a more luxurious ride. The Audi A4 delivers a well-rounded package. The Lexus IS is known for its reliability.
The S60 stands out with its Scandinavian design and strong focus on safety. Its infotainment system is a point of contention, as some rivals offer more intuitive interfaces. The S60's price is competitive, often slightly lower than BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Reliability is generally good, but Lexus IS consistently scores higher.
Alternatives to the S60 include the Acura TLX, which offers a blend of luxury and reliability, and the Genesis G70, which provides excellent value and performance. If sporty handling is a priority, the BMW 3 Series is a better choice. For ultimate reliability, consider the Lexus IS. Reliable, fun to drive, great interior!

I like the minimalist interior inspired by Scandinavian design, along with the easy to use touchscreen display. I have the T6 AWD with 316 HP and love how it drives (in all weather conditions) and how it accelerates and corners. Extremely reliable, everything has worked perfectly.

Dream car

Got the car about a year ago. CPO model with 4500 miles. Not a single defect during the first year. Firm, comfy, powerful, a real delight. Doesnt feel as heavy in the front like that previous versions.
