What Problems Does the 2009 Volvo S60 Have?
Recalls for the 2009 Volvo S60 are relatively limited, but it's important to check the NHTSA website for any outstanding safety recalls related to specific VINs. Long-term reliability concerns primarily revolve around the aging electrical system and potential for increased maintenance costs as the vehicle ages. The "R" model, with its more complex all-wheel-drive system and advanced suspension, can be more expensive to maintain than the base 2.5T or T5 trims.

How Does the 2009 Volvo S60 Compare to Other Sedan?
Price-wise, the S60 offers good value on the used market. The Acura TSX is a strong alternative, known for its reliability and balanced performance. The Lexus IS offers a more luxurious experience and strong reliability, but may be more expensive. The Audi A4 provides a refined interior and available quattro all-wheel drive, but can be more prone to maintenance issues. The BMW 3 series is a great driving car, but can also be costly to maintain.
Ultimately, the best alternative depends on individual priorities. If safety and comfort are paramount, the S60 is a solid choice. If sporty handling is desired, the BMW 3 Series is a better option. For ultimate reliability, the Acura TSX or Lexus IS are worth considering.

Final Verdict: Is the 2009 Volvo S60 a Good Sedan?

Absolutely rock solid car and extremely safe!At the time I bought my 2009 Volvo S60 SE, Ford had recently purchased Volvo and had started integrating some Volvo advanced technological design and safety processes into their Ford vehicles. Regrettably, Ford also was beginning to have a less than positive effect on the Volvo production line. My 2009 Volvo S60 SE was the last of the somewhat “old school†bullet proof 100% genuine Volvo. There is not a single bolt/trim/electronic/etc piece of Ford/Volvo mixed components or software on my car... It is absolutely 100% ALL VOLVO! That’s an outstanding thing. My car is 10+ years old - has 51000 miles on it and a complete Volvo maintenance record plus verifiable oil changes every 3000 miles with Mobil1 full synthetic oil. You might say that I’m babying it and you’d be absolutely correct. I bought this with the intention for it to be the last car I’ll ever buy. The only way that I’ll ever purchase another car is if full electric cars become more reasonably priced and available to me on my limited retirement budget. (Or heaven forbid, the S60 gets involved in a serious accident and is totaled. The car is ultra reliable..gets good gas mileage and maintenance costs are reasonable. What’s not to like?

The sporty Swedish sleeper...I bought this car before I knew anything about Volvo, and I'm so glad I did. Yes, Volvos are expensive. Yes, Volvos aren't as luxurious inside as BMW, Audi, or Mercedes-Benz. It may not have all the luxury features that those brands do, but this car has something that they don't. Character. The first thing you'll notice is the leather seats and how they conform to your body and make you feel snug and warm. The next is the simplistic and intuitive layout inside. As soon as you start it, you'll love the growl and meaty tone of the turbocharged 5 cylinder engine. Once you put it in drive, you'll be in love. This is the perfect car for driving enthusiasts that don't want a mainstream brand. It's the perfect car for driving enthusiasts that want more performance and fun out of a daily driver. It's the perfect car for a young person that needs a compact but practical sedan. This car changed my life.

Sporty, Versatile SedanThis car is the best car I have ever driven or owned. I have the AWD version with a rack on top and it does everything I need to, in style.

Good Looking, reliable, VersatileThis car is beautiful inside and out. Not only that, it is reliable and versatile too. It will never leave you beside the road, and you can go anywhere, and do anything with it. Good for city and country driving.

Black Beauty!Black Beauty, my 2009 Volvo S60, has a gleaming black exterior and tan interior. I planned to swap her for another breed before she galloped to 100K miles, but I just couldn't. Why chance betting on a nag when you have a thoroughbred? She's one reliable filly I highly recommend.

The safest family carIt was a great car, it lasts 20 years for sure. Its Very safe. It also has great engine performance with a 5 cylinder engine. Looks very sporty, and unlike most sporty cars it fits kids in the back seat!

Kid ReviewMy parents think this is a "fancy" car. The back seat is very cramped and to fold the back seat, you have to go into the trunk and pull something. The backup sensor works fine for my parents. The armrest in the back seat is designed to hold different size cups. It also has a small "secret" compartment to put things. My sister puts her Nintendo DS there. Overall it's ok if the person in the driver or front passenger seat doesn't put the seat all the way back like my dad does.

Very Good Car (Rebuilt Title)We bought this car (post-rebuild) as a "family upgrade" since my eclipse wasn't exactly carseat friendly. It has been a fantastic car, so far. As the title mentions, the only issues we've had have appeared to be directly related to the rebuild. It drives wonderfully, although seems to handle a little worse in the rain and wind than I expected. More specifically, it feels like the tires grab the road less than, for example, my eclipse did. The acceleration from the turbo is phenomenal and exceeded my expectations. I truly didn't know what to expect from a 2.5L turbo and am very happy with this discovery. The Dolby system produces great sound. The auto-dimming mirror is a very nice feature. The seats are very comfortable even on long drives. The rear headrest, flip-down feature is awesome for expanded visibility. Good sized trunk with 60/40 rear seat fold down feature is great although most likely not able to be used when you would need it, i.e. traveling with 3-4 people.

Continued Volvo CustomerWe have owned Volvos since 1994 and love their styling, performance, reliability and comfort. The S60 2.5T is the best we have owned. I am 6 foot 7 inches tall and the seats are extremely comfortable and room for the driver is perfectly suited for long trips. It's the only vehicle I have ever owned tha I can drive 500 miles and not feel tired after arriving at my destination. I am a tech geek and enjoy the technology built into our new Volvo. My wife was very specific that she wanted a new Volvo even though we looked at Infinity G35, Cadillac CTS, BMW, Lincoln MKS, Acura TS and Audi. Since she drives the Volvo most of the time I had to go with her wishes. It's a fun car to drive.
