What Problems Does the 2011 Volvo S60 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2011 Volvo S60 include oil consumption, particularly in the T5 engine. Some owners have reported needing to add oil between oil changes. Issues with the electronic systems, such as the infotainment system, sensors (e.g., oxygen sensors), and climate control, have also been noted. Suspension components, including struts and control arms, may wear out prematurely, especially in areas with poor road conditions.

Recalls for the 2011 Volvo S60 have included issues related to the fuel system, potentially causing fuel leaks and increasing the risk of fire. It's important to check the vehicle's recall history with the VIN to ensure all necessary repairs have been performed.

Long-term reliability concerns revolve around the aforementioned oil consumption issue, which can lead to more significant engine problems if left unaddressed. Maintaining the vehicle with regular oil changes and addressing any warning signs promptly is crucial. The electronic systems can also be a source of frustration over time, as sensors and modules may fail. Proper maintenance and addressing issues as they arise can help mitigate these concerns.

How long will the 2011 Volvo S60 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2011 Volvo S60 can realistically provide 200,000 miles or more of service. Many owners report reaching this milestone with regular oil changes, timely repairs, and adherence to the manufacturer's recommended maintenance schedule. However, the long-term durability is heavily dependent on maintenance habits. Neglecting oil changes, ignoring warning signs, and postponing necessary repairs can significantly shorten the lifespan of the vehicle. The most prominent long-term weakness is the potential for oil consumption issues and electronic system failures, as described previously. Proper care and preventative maintenance are key to maximizing the longevity of this vehicle.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2011 Volvo S60 came equipped with a decent array of built-in tech and safety features for its time. Standard features included Bluetooth connectivity for hands-free calling and audio streaming, an eight-speaker audio system with CD player and auxiliary input, and dual-zone automatic climate control. The S60 also featured Volvo's City Safety system, a low-speed collision avoidance system that could automatically apply the brakes to prevent or mitigate accidents at speeds below 19 mph.

Optional tech and entertainment features included a navigation system with real-time traffic updates, a premium Dynaudio sound system, and a rearview camera. Driver-assistance features like blind-spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control, and rear parking sensors were also available.

Safety was a major focus, and the 2011 S60 came standard with antilock brakes, stability control, front-seat side airbags, and side curtain airbags. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2011 S60 a "Top Safety Pick" rating, and it received good scores in all crash tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also gave it a good overall safety rating. These ratings reflect Volvo's commitment to safety and the S60's strong performance in crash tests.

2011 Volvo S60 Prices and Market Value

The 2011 Volvo S60 had a starting MSRP of around $31,000 for the T5 model and upwards of $38,000 for the T6. Today, used market prices typically range from $6,000 to $12,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The S60 has experienced significant depreciation over the years, which is typical for luxury sedans. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition (maintenance records are crucial), mileage, trim level (T6 and R-Design models tend to hold their value better), and geographic location. Vehicles with documented service history and lower mileage will command higher prices.

2011 Volvo S60 Cost of Ownership

Long-term ownership costs for a 2011 Volvo S60 can be moderate to high. Insurance costs are generally average for a luxury sedan. Fuel costs depend on driving habits, but premium fuel is recommended, adding to the expense. Maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average, especially if encountering issues like oil consumption or electronic problems. Volvo parts can be pricier than those for domestic or Japanese brands. Overall, it's not the most economical car to own, but with careful maintenance, costs can be managed.

2011 Volvo S60 Insurance

Insurance for a 2011 Volvo S60 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2011 Volvo S60 Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2011 Volvo S60 competes with other luxury sedans like the Acura TSX, Audi A4, BMW 3 Series, and Lexus IS. In terms of performance, the S60 T6 offers competitive horsepower but may not be as dynamically engaging as the BMW 3 Series. The Acura TSX offers better reliability and lower running costs. The Audi A4 provides a more refined interior and available all-wheel drive, similar to the S60.

In terms of features, the S60 offers a competitive set, especially regarding safety. However, the BMW 3 Series and Audi A4 may offer more advanced technology and infotainment features, depending on the options selected. Reliability is a mixed bag; the S60 can be prone to certain issues, while the Lexus IS and Acura TSX generally have better reliability records. Regarding price, the S60 often offers good value on the used market, often priced lower than comparable BMW or Audi models.

Alternatives to the 2011 Volvo S60 include the Acura TSX for superior reliability and lower running costs, the Audi A4 for a more refined interior and driving experience, or the Lexus IS for a blend of luxury and reliability. The BMW 3 Series is a good alternative if performance is a top priority, but maintenance costs can be higher.

Final Verdict: Is the 2011 Volvo S60 a Good Sedan?

The 2011 Volvo S60 is ideal for buyers seeking a stylish and safe luxury sedan with a distinctive Scandinavian design. It's worth buying, particularly on the used market, if you prioritize safety, comfort, and unique styling over outright performance or bulletproof reliability. However, a pre-purchase inspection is essential to check for potential issues like oil consumption and electronic problems. Consider the T6 model for added performance, but be prepared for slightly higher running costs. A well-maintained example with a solid service history is crucial for a positive ownership experience. It is less suited for someone who prioritizes low cost of ownership above all else.

My 2911 s60 Volvo in comparison to my past Toyota.

The main problem with my 2911 s60 Volvo is: not very good on mpg; also, my 2001 Toyota Echo was a fantastic car but winter rusted out the car by 2023, I like my Volvo; it just so complicated so I only use one radio station and try to forget all the fancy gadgets since I'm older and I need to concentrated on driving safely. My Toyota Echo got 52 1/2 mpg. I think my Volvo gets just 12-14 mpg.

Safe and sporty

the car is elegant yet sporty, young and peppy yet mature and sleek, very easy and fun to drive, most of all very safe. No problems getting on the free way, seeing in your blind spot (as long as the sun is not setting/ rising on your blind spot sensor). This is a very reliable car. It does have a lot of computer but you can still replace wear parts like all of your breaks with out some sort of volvo scan tool ( i think that is pretty nice). I love this car it is my first awd turbo and it is amazing. If you want to have the ability be faster than some kids(most/ the bad drivers that try to hard) in an Asian import and corner better than an old man in a heavier new American muscle car this is a really great car pick. If you also like the new twighlight movie you might also like this car. I only wish polestar and volvo where a little nicer to the bolt on volvo family as far as tuning and suppling people with the need to comb over the oem options and pep and spruce up what they desire with ease. There is also a t5 available for people that just want to get there or love the original volvo oddity of having an extra or missing cylinder compared to other car companies. ðŸ‑¸ðŸ‑ΒͺΓ°ΕΈΒ€β„’ You still might have to fix parts or replace wear parts it is still a car but at least it would be worth it with this car

Safe, Comfortable, Powerful, Quiet 4 door "Coupe"

With AWD and an inline turbo 6, this car will give a confident ride/drive in any kind of weather. It is also very reliable and great for commuting and longer trips. The seats are the best out there. Take care of it and it will take care of you for many years.

Volvo S6 T6 AWD monster

I bought this car as a replacement of the Saab Viggen that I owned for 10 years. I expected to have to compromise on handling, power and not having a stickshift anymore. I was wrong. This was the first Volvo build under Chinese ownership and they made it kind of a flagship. They also plunked in the biggest engine in the house (inline 6 with turbo). Because of the all wheel drive and the large bump in power it would easily outrun my old Viggen.

Definitely a safe vehicle..

Not a bad choice for safety reasons but not sure if it would be my first choice. The inside was very bland and needed some improvements. The price tag was also a deal breaker.

Great job Volvo!

I test drive an S60 T6 AWD with every option available. The customizable suspension was terrific. I noted in a previous review of the S80 T6 AWD where the city safe worked and boy did it ever! I cannot decide between the S60 and the S80. Both great cars and might as well flip a coin! Both are great!

Best car I've ever owned

Comfortable and fast. Some may find the interior a bit spartan, but I like it. Not to busy and tastefully done. The S60 comes with the best seats, something Volvo is well known for. Decent handling and great straight line speed. Until Volvo's new Drive-E engines are refined a bit, the 3.0 liter turbocharged straight six in this car is the best engine Volvo has ever had. The only drawbacks are the lack of a spare tire and a trunk that's a bit on the small side. Regular maintenance also costs a bit more than the Toyotas and Hyundais of the world. Totally worth it for the considerable performance and comfort upgrade.
