What Problems Does the 2023 Volvo S60 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2023 Volvo S60 are relatively few, but some owners have noted issues with the infotainment system's responsiveness and occasional software glitches. These can manifest as slow response times, Bluetooth connectivity problems, or occasional system freezes. Some have reported minor electrical issues such as sensor malfunctions or issues with the automatic braking system, although these are not widespread.

Recalls for the 2023 Volvo S60 have been issued, typically addressing safety-related concerns such as potential issues with the braking system or airbag deployment. It's important to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information. Long-term reliability concerns generally focus on the complexity of the vehicle's electronics and the potential for increased maintenance costs associated with the hybrid powertrain in the Recharge models. While Volvo has a reputation for safety and build quality, the long-term durability of newer, more technologically advanced models remains to be seen. Owners are advised to adhere to the recommended maintenance schedule and address any unusual symptoms promptly to mitigate potential issues.

How long will the 2023 Volvo S60 last?

With diligent maintenance, the 2023 Volvo S60 can reasonably be expected to provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Consistent adherence to scheduled maintenance, including oil changes, fluid checks, and timely replacement of wear items like brakes and tires, is crucial. Long-term durability hinges on the reliability of the electronic components and the condition of the engine and transmission. Potential weaknesses over time include degradation of the hybrid battery in Recharge models and increased maintenance needs associated with the advanced safety and driver-assistance systems. Rust isn't typically a major concern with modern Volvos, but regular washing and waxing can help preserve the paint and body.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2023 Volvo S60 boasts a comprehensive suite of built-in tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard is a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system powered by Google's Android Automotive OS, offering seamless integration with Google Maps, Google Assistant, and the Google Play Store. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard. The entertainment system includes a high-quality audio system, with an optional Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system available on higher trims.

Standard driver-assistance features include lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. Optional features include adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist, Volvo's semi-autonomous driving system that can handle steering, acceleration, and braking in certain highway conditions. A 360-degree surround-view camera is also available.

Volvo prioritizes safety, and the S60 is typically awarded excellent crash-test ratings from both the NHTSA and the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). These ratings often include top scores in frontal, side, and rollover crash tests, reflecting the vehicle's robust safety structure and advanced safety technologies. These safety features make it a compelling choice for safety-conscious buyers.

Subdued luxury

Had a 2014 Honda Sport and decided I to try a luxury car that wouldn't break the budget, so bought the cheapest used Volvo S60. It's great. It's extremely comfortable (with very adjustable seats), the sound system is outstanding, it handles turns really well, is nice and quiet, is really nice looking without being flashy, and it's touchscreen features are very easy to use especially with voice control. I live in a city, so one reason I chose it is because I read that Volvo's are not popular among thieves. Another reason I chose it is that my two friends who have Volvo's (XC models) swear by them, and one is 6'4" with a bad back.

Best car I have owned

First Volvo I have owned and I love it, it is the best car I have owned. I previously had Mercedes and BMW, this beats both hands down in looks, equipment and performance. I went for the Ultimate trim level, the dealership had a Plus and the Ultimate available. The plus is great, but the Ultimate has so much more, HUD, 360 degree camera etc. Touches like the fog lights activating at night when you turn the wheel so whichever direction you're turning has extra lighting and the headlight washers that pop up out of the bumper to help keep your lights bright just add to the overall feeling of quality. The exterior styling is striking, and in storm grey with the bright finish it catches the eye and gets compliments on looks. Mine has the Polestar engineering extra which makes performance very entertaining, I have yet to put it in Polestar mode (sport mode) but in normal mode this thing takes off like a rocket.
