The Good
The 2007 G-Class offers strong performance from its V8 engine, legendary off-road capability, and a surprisingly comfortable, luxurious interior.
Its iconic, unmistakable design appeals emotionally. Practically, it's known for its robust build quality (though not without faults). Reliability can be good with proper maintenance, but efficiency is poor. It holds its value well, but initial cost and running expenses are high.
The Bad
Potential buyers of a 2007 G-Class should watch out for rust, especially in areas prone to road salt. Suspension components, electrical systems, and the transfer case can also present issues. Fuel economy is notoriously poor. Furthermore, the vehicle's age means that deferred maintenance can lead to costly repairs. Pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended.

What Problems Does the 2007 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Have?
Electrical issues are also common, ranging from malfunctioning sensors to problems with the complicated wiring harness. The transfer case and differentials can experience issues, especially if not properly maintained with regular fluid changes. The G55 AMG's supercharged engine can be more prone to issues if not properly maintained.
There haven't been numerous recalls specifically targeting the 2007 model year, but it's crucial to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to safety or emissions. Long-term, these vehicles can be expensive to maintain due to their complexity and the cost of replacement parts. Proper and timely maintenance is essential to mitigate these issues.
How long will the 2007 Mercedes-Benz G-Class last?
Long-term durability is generally good for major components like the engine and transmission, *provided* they are serviced regularly. Weaknesses tend to appear in the form of rust, electrical gremlins, and wear and tear on suspension and interior components. Proper rustproofing and meticulous attention to maintenance schedules are crucial for maximizing the vehicle's longevity.
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are limited compared to contemporary cars. It includes features like cruise control and parking sensors, but lacks advanced safety technologies like lane departure warning, blind-spot monitoring, or automatic emergency braking. Safety features include anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESP), and multiple airbags.
Optional features included upgraded leather upholstery, different wood trim options, and various exterior accessories. Crash-test ratings for the 2007 G-Class are limited. The NHTSA and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) did not comprehensively test this model year. However, its robust construction and safety features provide a degree of protection. The G-Class does not have a rearview camera as standard equipment; this was not yet commonplace in 2007. Overall, the 2007 G-Class prioritizes ruggedness and luxury over cutting-edge technology.

How Does the 2007 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Compared to the G-Class, the Range Rover offers more modern features and a more luxurious interior, though reliability can be a concern. The Lexus LX 470, while less stylish, provides a more dependable and cost-effective ownership experience. The Cayenne offers a sportier driving experience but lacks the G-Class's off-road prowess.
Alternatives to the 2007 G-Class include newer Range Rover models (for updated features and luxury, but with potential reliability concerns) or a well-maintained Lexus LX 470 (for greater reliability and lower running costs). If off-road capability isn't a primary concern, the Porsche Cayenne offers a more engaging driving experience. For a similar boxy and rugged aesthetic (though significantly newer), consider a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon with luxury aftermarket upgrades.

"Love the look not the ride"We purchased a G500 for our son as a college graduation gift. Although we all loved the look of the G500 we found the ride to be stiff, cabin noise unacceptable, inadequate head room for anyone over 6'2" and the back seat lacking in leg room. Our son sold the G after two years and is now driving a Ford 150 and is much happier. Thanks.

A real SUVIf you are looking for rock solid quality and you want to stand out in the crowd, this is the SUV for you. The 2007 model is the best one yet, with improved ride quality and all of the amenities of the top dog SUV's bar none. It is really an event every time you drive it. TD
