The Good
The 2008 G-Class offers impressive off-road performance and a luxurious, comfortable interior. Its distinctive, timeless design appeals to those seeking a status symbol. While not the most fuel-efficient, its strong engine and robust build quality provide a sense of security and capability, appealing to both emotional and practical desires for a unique and durable vehicle.
The Bad
The 2008 G-Class suffers from poor fuel economy and can be expensive to maintain due to its complex systems and luxury components. Watch out for rust, especially in areas prone to road salt. Electrical issues and problems with the transfer case are also potential concerns. The ride can be stiff, and handling is not as refined as other SUVs.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2008 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Have?
Specific to this generation, some owners have reported issues with the air suspension (if equipped), leading to expensive repairs. Oil leaks from the engine and transmission are also common as the vehicle ages. Check engine lights are not uncommon, often requiring diagnostic work to pinpoint the cause.
While recalls were fewer for the 2008 model specifically compared to some earlier years, it's crucial to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls related to safety or emissions. Long-term, these vehicles require meticulous maintenance to prevent major component failures. The complexity of the G-Class's systems means repairs can be costly, requiring specialized knowledge and equipment.
How long will the 2008 Mercedes-Benz G-Class last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features include anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability program (ESP), traction control, and front and side airbags. Optional features included a heated windshield and upgraded leather upholstery. However, advanced driver-assistance systems like blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control were not available on this model year.
Crash-test ratings for the 2008 G-Class are limited. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) did not conduct full crash tests on this specific model year. Given its body-on-frame construction and high center of gravity, its crash performance may not be on par with modern SUVs with unibody construction and more advanced safety technologies. However, its robust build provides a certain level of inherent safety.

2008 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Prices and Market Value
The G-Class holds its value relatively well due to its iconic status and limited production. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition (rust-free examples command a premium), mileage, maintenance history, and whether it's a sought-after G55 AMG model. Depreciation is slower compared to many other luxury SUVs.

How Does the 2008 Mercedes-Benz G-Class Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Reliability is a concern for the G-Class; the Lexus LX generally boasts superior reliability. The Range Rover can also suffer from reliability issues. The Cadillac Escalade offers a more comfortable ride and more passenger space. Price-wise, a comparable G-Class will often command a premium on the used market due to its iconic status.
Alternatives depend on priorities. For pure off-road capability, the Range Rover is a reasonable choice. For a more luxurious and reliable SUV with better fuel economy, the Lexus LX is a strong contender. If passenger space and comfort are paramount, the Cadillac Escalade is a better option. The G-Class excels in its unique blend of ruggedness and luxury appeal, but practical buyers might find better value and reliability elsewhere.

Awesome VehicleIf you want a "sleeper" that a wolf in sheeps clothing the G55 owns this distinction. A night on the town you have a unique vehicle that turns heads in a down town and can easily park beside any exotic. Then in the morning enjoy a little light to light racing of mustangs and the like this truck can deliver. And if that dose not get any better on the weekend you can take it camping or off-road, where you can lead your hummer/jeep friends around with ease. The only downer is the G55 is a it sure is thirsty beast. But who cares!!

Most cut car in the world!Very beefy and muscely. Great looks, great comfort -- could have better urban performance but amazing off road capability! Very reliable!Interior design could be better and steering is numb.

Offroad or City - Best SUV out thereJust immaculate, this car turns heads and has the power and stance to back it up. Wherever I am, one thing is guaranteed: I will be asked about this car. By far my favorite SUV, although I do wish I spent the extra for a G55. Regardless, if you are the type of person who will spend the money for perfection, this is your car.
