The Good
The 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse offered a sporty design that appealed to emotional buyers. Performance from the available V6 engine was a strong selling point. For practical buyers, it provided a relatively affordable entry into the sports coupe market. While not class-leading, its reliability was generally decent, and it provided adequate comfort for daily driving.
The Bad
Potential buyers should be aware of the Eclipse's limited rear passenger space and smaller cargo area. Some owners have reported issues with electrical components and the car's overall build quality. Fuel economy, especially with the V6, is not its strongest suit. Check for rust, especially in areas with harsh winters. Prior accident history is also something to investigate thoroughly.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse Have?
How long will the 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Entertainment options were fairly basic compared to modern vehicles. The Rockford Fosgate system in the GT trim was a standout feature, providing enhanced audio quality.
Driver-assistance features were limited. The 2012 Eclipse did not offer advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS) like lane departure warning or blind-spot monitoring, which are common in newer cars. Standard safety features included anti-lock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control, and front and side airbags.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA should be checked for this specific model year. It's important to note that crash test standards have evolved, and a rating from 2012 may not be directly comparable to ratings from newer vehicles. The lack of modern safety technology is a significant consideration for safety-conscious buyers. Optional features primarily focused on aesthetics and comfort, such as upgraded wheels and interior trim options.

How Does the 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse Compare to Other Hatchback?
Feature-wise, the Eclipse offered a unique design but lacked some of the modern tech features found in rivals. Reliability was a mixed bag compared to Honda and Scion.
Price-wise, the Eclipse was often more affordable than the Genesis Coupe.
Alternatives to the 2012 Mitsubishi Eclipse include:
- Honda Civic Si: More reliable and better handling.
- Hyundai Genesis Coupe: More powerful engine options.
- Scion tC: Known for reliability and practicality.
- Mazda MX-5 Miata: If a sporty, engaging driving experience is prioritized over rear seats.
If reliability and fuel economy are key concerns, the Honda Civic Si or Scion tC are better choices. If more power is desired, the Genesis Coupe is a stronger contender. The Eclipse offered distinctive styling, but competitors generally provided a more well-rounded package.

Awesome CarsThere is a reason I keep coming back to these gems. I'm about to purchase my 4th one. I've owned a GS for 10 years and 2 GTs for 7 years. One being a Spyder which I always said was the best car I ever owned. Perfectly balanced, fast, great looks, beatiful paint colors. A blast to drive. The interior lighting and the 650 watt Rockford Fosgate are AMAZING. Everything feels right about the car. And the cost of ownership is great, just basic maintenance. I regretted getting rid of them all (traded 2 for a Vette). After 2 years, I"m going back. Found a Spyder GT in Rave Red and it will arrive soon. I can't wait to drive this gem of a car again!

Budget Sports CarI love this car. Third vehicle I've owned, & by far my favorite so far. I've had no mechanical issues besides a gauge constantly telling me air pressure is low in my tire when it's not. Acceleration is sluggish. Low Horsepower is to blame for that. It takes forever to get it going, but handling is good. I love the look of it & people ask me about it all the time. Interior looks nice imo, but some materials are cheap.. but hey it's a bishi !

My daily driver nowI just bought a GS convertible. Looks sleek. So far so good, just surprised being a Japanese car. It doesn't have Bluetooth, outside temperature or even a better stereo. No adult will fit in the backseat. Really made for 2.
