The Good
The 2008 Eclipse offers a striking design, appealing to those seeking a sporty aesthetic. The GT trim provides decent performance with its V6 engine, offering an engaging driving experience. While not the most reliable car on the market, it represents a good value for buyers on a budget looking for a stylish coupe or convertible.
The Bad
Potential buyers should be aware of the Eclipse's known weaknesses. Reliability can be a concern, with reports of electrical issues and transmission problems. The interior quality is not particularly high-end. Also, visibility can be limited, especially in the convertible versions. Rust can be an issue in certain climates, so inspect carefully.

Analysis
What Problems Does the 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse Have?
There have been recalls for the 2008 Eclipse, addressing issues such as potential fuel leakage and brake light malfunctions. Long-term reliability is a mixed bag; while some owners have reported few problems with proper maintenance, others have experienced significant issues over time. Specific model year issues aren't drastically different from the overall generation, but it's crucial to thoroughly inspect any used Eclipse, paying close attention to the electrical system, transmission, and signs of rust. Checking the vehicle history report for performed recall repairs is also recommended.
How long will the 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included standard front airbags, side-impact airbags, anti-lock brakes (ABS), and traction control. Electronic Stability Control (ESC) was also available, enhancing vehicle stability during challenging driving conditions. Optional features included a sunroof and leather upholstery. Crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) should be checked for specific results, but generally, the Eclipse performed adequately in frontal and side-impact tests for its class. Keep in mind that safety technology has significantly advanced since 2008.

How Does the 2008 Mitsubishi Eclipse Compare to Other Hatchback?
Compared to its rivals, the Eclipse stood out for its distinctive styling but lagged behind in reliability. The Eclipse's interior quality was generally considered lower than the Civic Si and Altima Coupe. For buyers prioritizing reliability and driving dynamics, the Honda Civic Si or Mazda MX-5 Miata are better alternatives. The Scion tC offers a similar level of style and affordability with potentially better reliability. If styling is the top priority and budget is a major concern, the Eclipse might still be a viable option, but potential buyers should be aware of its drawbacks.

2008 GT I Have Owned Since NewMy wife and I still love this car. It is fast, hugs the road, sound system is great and it has been unbelievably reliable. In Sunset Pearl (orange) we still get compliments to this day. How many twelve year old cars are this good? Only downsides are interior ergonomics and turning radius.

Fun, gas sipping, music loving toy.Extremely reliable and easy to maintain. Never had any serious mechanical problems, with regular maintenance I am fully confident it could go 250k to 300k. Drove it for several years and was passed from one family member to another. 10/10 would drive again.

Very Sexy Little Sports CarAs the owner the same theme keeps coming back to me from all the compliments I receive which is how Sexy this car appears and looks like a new car just driven off the showroom floor. I constantly detail my GT keeping it in pristine condition. Not many car owners have pride of ownership as I do.

Upgraded Black SpoilerNow with the Detailed Black Gloss Spoiler complimenting the ultra-dark privacy windows and black gloss rims this is the only GT having all three features of its kind.

Most desirable car I have ever ownedCompared to other Mitsubishi GT's the is the winner hands down. Not even close compared to this car's outstanding looks and features. This vehicle is definitely 5 Stars all across the board.

Best car to ride to events withCar was fun to ride in, a really good classy sports car, and has more power than people would think for a V6, just a really fun car to drive in

One of the best cars I have had! This has been a great car! Reliable and not many repairs, mostly just maintenance, which has contributed to its longevity. I wish the auto industry would make more cars like this again!

Owned 10 YearsBought this car new about ten years ago. It has 68,000 miles on it. I have replaced a sway bar, a stabilizer link, wheel rims, and a pesky traction control module. That module keeps dying, but I just replace it. I keep the maintenance up for oil changes, tires, alignments, transmission oil, and wipers. Maintenance for me has been as expected and perhaps a little less. Been great car and I would buy it again.
