The Good
The 2010 Eclipse offers a striking design that appeals to emotional buyers seeking a sporty look. The V6 engine provides decent performance. For practical buyers, it's relatively affordable and can be a good value on the used market. The comfortable front seats make it suitable for daily driving. Fuel efficiency is adequate for the class, and reliability is generally average.
The Bad
Some common weaknesses of the 2010 Eclipse include potential transmission issues, especially in the automatic versions. Interior materials can feel cheap, and rear visibility is limited due to the coupe design. The GS trim's 4-cylinder engine can feel underpowered. Rust can be a concern in colder climates. Oil consumption issues have been reported on some models.

What Problems Does the 2010 Mitsubishi Eclipse Have?
Recalls for the 2010 Eclipse were relatively limited, but it's crucial to check the NHTSA website for any outstanding recalls specific to the VIN. Long-term reliability concerns mainly revolve around the transmission, engine (oil consumption), and rust prevention. Earlier model years (2006-2009) sometimes had more pronounced issues with the automatic transmission, which Mitsubishi attempted to address in later years, including 2010. However, the potential for transmission problems remains a consideration. Properly maintained models generally fare better, but pre-purchase inspections are strongly recommended.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features include standard front airbags, side airbags, and anti-lock brakes (ABS). Electronic Stability Control (ESC) was available on some trims. Optional features included a sunroof and leather seats.
Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) varied. While specific 2010 ratings should be checked on their respective websites, generally, the Eclipse performed adequately in frontal crash tests but may have had lower scores in side-impact tests. The lack of advanced safety tech is a notable drawback compared to modern vehicles.

How Does the 2010 Mitsubishi Eclipse Compare to Other Hatchback?
In terms of features, the Eclipse lagged behind some rivals, particularly in safety technology. Reliability was a significant weakness compared to the Honda and Mazda. Price-wise, the Eclipse was competitive, especially on the used market. Alternatives to consider include the Acura RSX (for a more refined coupe), Scion tC (for better reliability and practicality), or a newer Hyundai Genesis Coupe for improved performance and features. If reliability is a priority, the Honda Civic Si or Mazda MX-5 are better choices. The Eclipse is best suited for buyers prioritizing style and affordability over long-term reliability.
