The Good
The 2008 M-Class offers a comfortable ride and a prestigious image (emotional appeal). Practical advantages include available all-wheel drive for enhanced safety and capability, a spacious interior, and a selection of powerful engines offering decent performance. While not the most efficient, it provides a good balance of luxury and utility.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses of the 2008 M-Class include higher maintenance costs compared to non-luxury SUVs. Some owners report issues with the air suspension (if equipped), electrical components, and oil leaks. Thorough inspection by a qualified mechanic before purchase is highly recommended. Reliability can vary depending on the specific engine and maintenance history.

What Problems Does the 2008 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Have?
Recalls for the 2008 M-Class have included issues related to fuel filter flange cracking, which could lead to fuel leaks. Owners should check the NHTSA website for specific recall information related to their vehicle's VIN. Long-term reliability can be affected by regular maintenance. Neglecting scheduled service can exacerbate existing problems and lead to more significant issues down the road. What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features include standard antilock brakes (ABS), electronic stability control (ESP), traction control, and a full complement of airbags (front, side, and curtain). Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles, but some models included parking sensors and a rearview camera as optional equipment.
Crash-test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) are generally good. The 2008 M-Class earned "Good" ratings in most crash tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also provided safety ratings, which should be consulted for detailed information. Remember that safety technology has significantly advanced since 2008, so newer vehicles generally offer superior protection. Blind spot monitoring and lane keeping assist were not available features on this model year.

How Does the 2008 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Feature-wise, the M-Class was competitive, although its technology was becoming dated by 2008 compared to newer models. Reliability is a concern, with the MDX and RX generally considered more dependable. Price-wise, the M-Class was in line with its German rivals but more expensive than the Japanese alternatives.
Alternatives to consider include the Acura MDX for its reliability and practicality, or a newer Lexus RX for improved technology and fuel economy. If performance is a top priority, a well-maintained BMW X5 could be a good option, but be prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs.

Disappointed because of overall conditionNot happy as the condition was nothing but a constant oil leak even after investing $1600 to fix and being told it would be another $2500 To get it stopped

Most reliable vehicle I have ever owned! We bought this SUV used and I dare say that if at all possible, I would never go back to any other make. It is super reliable, I have had no major issues ( it had 109K miles on it) and it goes through snow like no other!

Good Option for Section 179 vehicleI bought this car for the Section 179 vehicle deduction as it is over 6000 lbs and therefore classifies as a truck. I bought the 2008 in 2014, so six year old at time of purchase. Rubber additive issue after 4 years. So suggest if buying used to get one 2 years tops. Expensive to maintain, but rugged on the inside. Mine still looks great after much use and a big dog.

Great car! Handles very well and luxurious at themQuite comfortable, handles well. Clean interior and love the body lines! Good acceleration, good braking. I have owned very eco friendly cars, I cannot day it gets great gas mileage but I knew that when I purchased it. Overall, great car!!

Best SUV I have ownedBought this car with 106000 mi used and have not been disappointed. The V8 engine is high performance and 0-60 is 5.7 seconds with the high mileage. When I bought the car the interior was like new, the seats are comfortable enough that you can travel for hours without discomfort. Only downside is cost of repairs, as you get charged more for brand even outside of Mercedes dealership that you wouldn’t on other German makes like my VW rabbit.

Happy with the car!!Very nice. Smooth to drive! I purchased a used Mercedes for my youngest when he was at school and until now he is still driving it with more than 200,000 miles in it. I hope I get to drive mine that long or longer. I love it!

Known for problems/oil leaks$3200 to repair the front end and now needs a $4500 repair for mail seal leak, which is a known problem with these cars. The seals are cheap but it is a 10 hour repair job, or more!

MB V-6 CDI SUV - Love it, love it!This SUV has more bells and whistles than I could ever imagine! Ice cold A/C on command (no waiting forever for it to cool down), leather seats are immaculate, great powerful engine! Fun to drive. The convenient push-button hatch makes it easy when my hands are full. This vehicle has been very well taken care of! GERMAN Engineering at its BEST!

Just what I was looking forI looked for a car exactly like this for approximately 16 months. With arthritis of the hip I needed to ditch the C230 Kompressor I had and move up to a SUV. I looked and monitored for pricing for a long time. I watched the prices drop and decided to see if coulter was in a bargaining position to help me out. I went, saw and drove the car and knew the price asking for this car was just up my alley. They got me a good loan with a bank and I was soon driving pain free as the challenge of getting into and out of the low sitting sedan was a issue for me. Now I just slide in and out and the comfort factor is a step up from my last Mercedes. Really enjoy the car and have already had several compliments on the car.
