The 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is a mid-size luxury SUV, part of the second generation (W164) which ran from 2006 to 2011. Key trims included the ML350, ML550, and the high-performance ML63 AMG. Pricing in 2010 ranged from approximately $46,000 to over $90,000 for the AMG model. It's popularity stemmed from its blend of Mercedes-Benz luxury, capable performance, and practical SUV functionality. It stood out for its comfortable ride and available advanced technology features.
The Good

The 2010 M-Class offers a smooth and comfortable ride (comfort), with powerful engine options (performance) delivering a refined driving experience (emotional appeal). Its luxurious interior and build quality provide a sense of prestige (emotional appeal). The spaciousness and available all-wheel drive make it a practical choice for families (practical). While not the most fuel-efficient, it offers a respectable blend of luxury and utility.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2010 M-Class include higher maintenance costs compared to non-luxury SUVs. Some owners have reported issues with the air suspension (if equipped) and electronic components. Fuel economy, especially in the higher-performance models, can be poor. It's crucial to check for oil leaks and ensure all electronics are functioning correctly before purchasing a used model. Repair costs can be substantial.

What Problems Does the 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class often revolve around the air suspension system, particularly on models equipped with it. Issues can range from minor leaks to complete system failure, leading to costly repairs. Oil leaks, especially around the engine and transmission, are another common concern. Electronic glitches, such as problems with the COMAND system, navigation, or sensor malfunctions, are also reported. The ML63 AMG, with its high-performance engine, can be prone to higher maintenance costs and potential engine issues if not properly maintained. Specific to the 2010 model year, some owners have reported issues with the fuel pump and fuel level sensor. Recalls for the 2010 M-Class have included issues related to fuel filter flange cracking, which could lead to fuel leakage and potential fire hazards, and issues with the power steering hose. Long-term reliability concerns include potential rust issues, particularly in areas with harsh winter conditions and heavy road salt use. Regular maintenance, including oil changes and fluid checks, is crucial to mitigating these potential problems. Prospective buyers should carefully inspect the vehicle's service history and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic.

How long will the 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class last?

A 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class, with diligent maintenance, can realistically provide 200,000 miles or more of service. Based on average driving habits, that translates to potentially another 5-10 years of use. However, long-term durability hinges significantly on consistent and proper maintenance. Key weaknesses over time include the aforementioned air suspension, which is prone to failure, and the potential for rust, especially in colder climates. Regular fluid changes (engine oil, transmission fluid, coolant) are crucial for longevity. Neglecting maintenance will drastically shorten its lifespan and increase the likelihood of major, expensive repairs. Electronic components can also become problematic with age.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class came equipped with a respectable array of technology, entertainment, and safety features for its time. Standard features included the COMAND system with a central display, controlling audio, navigation (if equipped), and vehicle settings. Entertainment options included a premium sound system with CD player and auxiliary input. Available driver-assistance features included parking sensors, rearview camera, and blind-spot monitoring (optional). Standard safety features comprised anti-lock brakes (ABS), stability control, traction control, and a suite of airbags, including front, side, and curtain airbags. Optional features included adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning. Crash test ratings from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) were generally positive, with the M-Class earning good ratings in most categories. However, specific ratings vary, so it's advisable to check both IIHS and NHTSA websites for the most accurate and detailed information for the 2010 model year. The COMAND system, while functional, can feel dated compared to modern infotainment systems. The driver-assistance features, while helpful, are not as advanced as those found in newer vehicles. Overall, the 2010 M-Class offered a solid suite of features for its time, prioritizing safety and a comfortable driving experience.

2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class ranged from around $46,000 for the ML350 to over $90,000 for the ML63 AMG. Current used market prices typically range from $8,000 to $18,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The M-Class has experienced significant depreciation due to its age, higher maintenance costs, and the availability of newer, more technologically advanced SUVs. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, service history, mileage, and whether it has desirable options like the air suspension or navigation system. Lower mileage, a clean title, and documented maintenance records will command a higher price. The AMG models tend to hold their value slightly better than the base models due to their performance appeal.

2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Cost of Ownership

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is generally considered costly to own. Insurance premiums are higher than average due to the vehicle's luxury status and potential repair costs. Fuel economy, especially for V8 models, is poor. Maintenance and repair costs can be significantly higher than those of non-luxury SUVs, especially if issues arise with the air suspension or complex electronic systems. Long-term ownership requires budgeting for potentially expensive repairs. While the diesel model offers better fuel economy, diesel repairs can also be costly. It's not an economical choice for budget-conscious buyers.

2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Insurance

Insurance for a 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle MPV with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle MPV?

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class competed with other mid-size luxury SUVs like the BMW X5, Acura MDX, Lexus RX 350, and Audi Q7. In terms of performance, the ML550 and ML63 AMG offered strong acceleration, rivaling the X5's performance-oriented models. The Acura MDX provided a sportier driving experience than the base ML350. Features-wise, the M-Class offered a comparable level of luxury and technology. However, the Lexus RX 350 consistently ranked higher in reliability. The Audi Q7 offered a more spacious third-row option, which the M-Class lacked. The BMW X5 often had a steeper price point, both new and used. For reliability and lower long-term costs, the Lexus RX 350 is a strong alternative. The Acura MDX offers a good balance of performance, features, and reliability at a slightly lower price point. If performance is a top priority and budget is less of a concern, the BMW X5 is also a viable option. The Audi Q7 is a suitable alternative if third-row seating is needed. Overall, the M-Class offers a compelling blend of luxury and capability, but potential buyers should weigh its higher running costs against the strengths of its rivals.

Final Verdict: Is the 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class a Good Sport Utility Vehicle MPV?

The 2010 Mercedes-Benz M-Class is ideal for buyers seeking a comfortable and luxurious SUV with a prestigious badge, who appreciate its styling and are willing to accept potentially higher running costs. It's worth buying *used* if purchased at a reasonable price, thoroughly inspected, and with a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection. Specific trims like the ML350 BlueTEC diesel offer better fuel economy, but diesel repairs can be expensive. Avoid models with extensive air suspension issues or a history of neglected maintenance. Buyers prioritizing reliability and lower running costs should consider alternatives like the Lexus RX 350 or Acura MDX. If you value performance and are willing to pay for it, the ML550 or ML63 AMG could be appealing, but budget accordingly for increased fuel consumption and maintenance.

This car is great overall but only has one problem.

This car is great overall but only has one problem. I bought this car July 2023 for around 9k with 90k miles from Florida. The car was in perfect condition with only a minor things broken. From the beginning, I really liked the ride and some of the features like the back up camera. I have the regular ml350 not the diesel and mine is RWD. The only problem is the gas mileage and how much it costs to fill up. I usually drive around in the city about 85% of my driving and I get around 10-11 MPG while it said I am supposed to get around 16 MPG so that mean that I get around 240-260 miles of range on every tank which costs more or less 100$ from empty to full tank. This full tank lasts me 2 weeks and that's crazy expensive for a V6. This car eats gas like a V8. But that's really my only complaint apart from the fact that I changed a lot of the lights in this car because it keeps going out like tail lights and turns signals etc.

Ownership

Traded my Volvo 2007 XC90f for ML350 2010 diesel 28000 miles full Mercedes service history. On the whole this car was very comfortable and excellent in the snow during my 3 years ownership. Lucky i had a warranty direct policy. The down side these are the issues that I had. 1.Split C V Gsiter first mot. 2.Vibration when stationary in drive. 3.Engine oil cooler leak. 4.Gearbox oil cooler leak. 5.Ignition switch faulty would not start. 6.New battery. 7.Rear shocks leak.

Rest while driving and feel safe too.

I have a 2010 ML-350 Bluetec. Overall this SUV is reliable, stylish, frugal on fuel - 23-30 mpg, with nice interior and comfortable ride. I have never been a fan of MB handling but I didn't buy it for racing anyways. I own 4 cars but chose this one to transport my little girl in, feels very safe. The diesel engine has plenty of torque for acceleration, uphill climbing and towing. Great brakes! The only problem with it is the Bluetec, It fails and it is a hassle and pricey to replace, then failed again. Currently in the class action related to this. It might be a vehicle best leased to save on the expenses associated with ageing.

Amazing SUV

The diesel engine is very strong, being barely broken in when I bought it 10 years old (about 130k miles). It is not an AMG, so don't expect to blow doors off other vehicles, but getting around 30 MPG hwy in this size of a vehicle that's AWD...? Phenomenal! Super comfortable & quiet ride. Took me a little to get used to the layout of buttons and controls, but I'm in love with this vehicle.

Perfect for what I need

This ML is perfect for me, I have a 5 year old granddaughter who sometimes is with me, has enough room for her in backseat with all her accessories. I have 2 large golden retrievers that fit fine in the back cargo area without putting the back seat down. Its all wheel drive which comes in handy when I have to park off of the pavement, or off road at fairs and festivals.

Good looking, roomy, great driving car

This has been a great car for us, only selling because we need a 3-seater. Love the large tank and the cruising mileage, over 30 mpg, and cruising distance. Handles well and great in snow. Solid and comfortable, luxury ride. Lots of cargo room with the seat up or down. Running boards and roof rack. Great heater and AC. Heated seats. rear camera.

Love this Vehicle

My third Mercedes but first SUV....will never drive a car again. Does not feel like a SUV, typical Benz comfort, ease in driving and safety. Unexpected great gas mileage. Wish I would have switched to this vehicle years ago.
