The Good
The 2016 Boxster excels in performance, delivering precise handling and thrilling acceleration. Its iconic Porsche design is undeniably attractive. While not the most efficient, fuel economy is respectable for a sports car. Reliability is generally good. Emotionally, it offers a pure driving experience. Practically, it holds its value relatively well compared to competitors, though maintenance can be costly.
The Bad
Potential weaknesses in the 2016 Boxster include higher maintenance costs compared to non-luxury brands. Watch out for potential oil leaks, particularly in higher mileage examples. The infotainment system can feel dated compared to newer cars. The optional ceramic brakes are expensive to replace. The small trunk space can be limiting for some buyers. Road noise can be significant with the top up.

What Problems Does the 2016 Porsche Boxster Have?
Recalls for the 2016 Boxster are generally infrequent, but it is always advisable to check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for any outstanding recalls related to safety or emissions. Long-term reliability concerns revolve around the aforementioned oil leaks and AOS issues. The PDK (Porsche Doppelkupplung) transmission, while highly regarded, can require expensive servicing over time.
Specific issues are not widely reported unique to the 2016 model year versus other similar years within the 981 generation. However, pre-purchase inspections by a qualified Porsche mechanic are highly recommended to identify any potential problems before purchasing a used 2016 Boxster. Paying attention to maintenance records and addressing any warning signs promptly can help prevent costly repairs down the line.
How long will the 2016 Porsche Boxster last?
What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features include anti-lock brakes, stability control, and multiple airbags. The Boxster offers good visibility, contributing to overall safety. While not packed with the latest cutting-edge tech found in newer vehicles, the 2016 Boxster offers a decent set of features for its time. The PCM system, while functional, can feel somewhat dated compared to contemporary infotainment systems.
Crash-test ratings from agencies like NHTSA and IIHS may not be comprehensive for sports cars like the Boxster. However, Porsche vehicles are generally engineered with a strong emphasis on safety. Optional features like Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) and Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes (PCCB) enhance both performance and safety. Blind-spot monitoring was not available. Overall, the 2016 Boxster prioritizes the driving experience over an extensive suite of tech features, but still offers a reasonable level of technology and safety.

How Does the 2016 Porsche Boxster Compare to Other Convertible?
In terms of features, the Boxster offers a decent array, but some rivals may offer more advanced technology. Reliability is generally comparable, though maintenance costs are higher for the Porsche. Price-wise, the Boxster is typically more expensive than the BMW Z4 and Audi TT, but similar to the Mercedes-Benz SLK.
Alternatives to the 2016 Boxster include a used Porsche 911 Cabriolet (if more power and prestige are desired), or the BMW M235i/M240i Convertible for a more affordable, rear-wheel-drive experience. The Jaguar F-Type convertible is another option offering similar performance and styling, but with potentially lower reliability. If budget is a primary concern, the Mazda MX-5 Miata provides a similar open-top experience at a significantly lower cost, though with less power and luxury. Ultimately, the Boxster's exceptional handling and Porsche badge make it a compelling choice for driving enthusiasts.

An Almost new PorscheThis is exactly the car that I expected, and more beautiful in person. It meets all expectations, and the interior and driving position is perfect for long distance touring.

Spyder Magic - the last of the naturally aspirated"Packing 375 hp and a claimed top speed of 180 mph, the new Spyder is the fastest, most powerful Boxster ever. It?s also the last of the line, the last Boxster to be powered by a naturally aspirated, six-cylinder engine...A sensory feast ? That?s what makes the Boxster Spyder so desirable, one of those rare cars that?s greater than the sum of its parts. There are many more explosive, expensive, extreme sports cars than the Boxster Spyder, some of which also have Porsche badges...But the Boxster Spyder is no less engaging, not the least because with the roof down, and the exhaust switched to Sport mode, you?re bathed in an intoxicating surround-sound replay of that iconic Porsche flat-six snarl, interspersed with a crisp snap-crackle-pop on the overrun. Even when driving down to Starbucks for a latte it?s like you?re on the way to winning the Targa Florio." Motor Trend

What a car should beThe Boxster is an incredible vehicle--everything a car should be. It handles great, accelerates well and is just fun to drive. I'm 6'2 and there are very few 2 seaters that fit comfortably. Most are made for smaller statures. This car fits like a glove. Admittedly there is a process to sit down into the car, but it's acceptable even for a daily driver (which is how I'll use this car). I gave the car 4 stars on value. If you buy the base vehicle, as I did, then you get much of the same basic features that are put on their high end ($100k+) vehicles but for the price of a minivan. It's a great deal for a high performance car, not to mention a that its a Porsche. Definitely would recommend this to anyone considering a roadster for their next car.

Amazing vehicle! This isn't the fastest or most powerful car out there, but it will put the biggest smile on your face. It's sheer fun; like driving a little go kart. It's comfortable for a small roadster and looks like a predator!

Just might be a future collectableBought this Porsche Boxster Spyder because of its rarity. Most of the car magazines said it was a great sports car. I will say the fit, finish, & quality is great. Happy with my selection.
