Rating: 4.66
Based on 19 Owner Reviews
Drew B | March 31, 2025
The 2018 Porsche Panamera is a second-generation luxury car that debuted in 2017, continuing Porsche's foray into the four-door coupe/hatchback segment. Key trims include the base Panamera, 4, 4S, GTS, Turbo, and Turbo S E-Hybrid, offering a wide range of performance and luxury. The original MSRP ranged from around $86,000 to well over $190,000, depending on the trim and options. Its blend of sports car performance with luxury sedan practicality is a key to its appeal.
The Good

The 2018 Panamera boasts exhilarating performance and surprisingly agile handling for its size. It offers luxurious comfort and a beautifully designed interior. While not the most efficient, some models offer decent fuel economy, particularly the E-Hybrid. Emotionally, it provides the prestige and driving excitement of a Porsche; practically, it's a comfortable and spacious four-door.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2018 Panamera include higher maintenance costs compared to non-luxury cars. Some owners have reported issues with the electronics and air suspension. The rear headroom can be limited for taller passengers in the standard body style. Options can significantly inflate the price, and depreciation can be significant, especially for higher trims.

What Problems Does the 2018 Porsche Panamera Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2018 Porsche Panamera can include issues with the air suspension system, leading to leaks or malfunctions. Some owners have reported electrical glitches, affecting systems like the infotainment or driver-assistance features. Battery drain, particularly in the E-Hybrid models, has also been noted. Premature tire wear can be an issue due to the car's weight and performance capabilities.

While specific recalls for the 2018 model year may exist, it's crucial to check with the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) for the most up-to-date recall information. Common areas for potential recalls across Panamera model years often involve software glitches, fuel system components, or issues related to safety systems. Long-term reliability can be a concern due to the complex systems and performance-oriented engineering. Regular maintenance and adherence to Porsche's recommended service intervals are crucial to mitigate potential issues. Considering a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified Porsche technician is highly recommended to identify any existing or potential problems.

How long will the 2018 Porsche Panamera last?

With proper maintenance, a 2018 Porsche Panamera can easily provide 150,000 miles or more of service. However, longevity heavily depends on maintenance habits. Neglecting scheduled services or delaying repairs can significantly shorten its lifespan. Long-term durability can be impacted by the complex air suspension system, which may require costly repairs over time. The electronic systems, while advanced, can also be a source of potential issues as the vehicle ages. Regular fluid changes, brake maintenance, and attention to any warning lights are key to maximizing the Panamera's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2018 Porsche Panamera comes standard with the Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, which includes a 12.3-inch touchscreen display, navigation, and Apple CarPlay integration. Standard driver-assistance features include lane departure warning and front and rear park assist.

Optional features include adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, blind-spot monitoring, night vision assist, and surround-view camera. The Burmester high-end surround sound system is a popular option for audiophiles. Available safety features included numerous airbags, Porsche Stability Management (PSM), and anti-lock brakes.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA should be checked for the specific 2018 model year, as ratings can vary. Generally, the Panamera is designed with a strong focus on safety, featuring a robust body structure and advanced safety technologies. However, always consult official sources for the most accurate and up-to-date crash test results.

2018 Porsche Panamera Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2018 Porsche Panamera ranged from approximately $86,000 to over $190,000, depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices vary widely based on mileage, condition, and specific configuration, but generally range from around $45,000 to $110,000. Depreciation is significant, especially for higher trims with many options. Factors affecting resale value include the car's condition, mileage, service history, and whether it has desirable options. The E-Hybrid models may hold their value slightly better due to increased demand for hybrid vehicles.

2018 Porsche Panamera Cost of Ownership

The 2018 Porsche Panamera is generally costly to own. Insurance premiums are high due to the car's value and performance capabilities. Fuel costs can be significant, especially for the V8 models. Maintenance and repair costs are also above average, as Porsche parts and service can be expensive. Long-term ownership costs should be carefully considered, factoring in potential repairs to the air suspension and other complex systems. The E-Hybrid might offer some fuel savings, but battery replacements can be a significant expense.

2018 Porsche Panamera Insurance

Insurance for a 2018 Porsche Panamera is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Hatchback with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2018 Porsche Panamera Compare to Other Hatchback?

The 2018 Porsche Panamera competes with other luxury four-door cars like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, BMW 7 Series, Audi A8, and Maserati Quattroporte. The Panamera generally offers a sportier driving experience than the S-Class or 7 Series, but might be less comfortable on long journeys. The Audi A8 offers similar technology and luxury at a slightly lower price point, but lacks the Porsche's performance pedigree. The Maserati Quattroporte has a more distinct Italian flair but generally suffers from lower reliability ratings.

In terms of performance, the Panamera Turbo models are highly competitive, rivaling or exceeding the performance of their counterparts. Reliability can be a concern compared to the German rivals. Feature-wise, the Panamera offers a similar level of technology and luxury. If performance is the top priority, the Panamera is a strong contender. If comfort and reliability are more important, the Mercedes-Benz S-Class or Audi A8 might be better alternatives. A similar alternative to the Panamera, balancing performance and luxury, would be the BMW M5 (though it's a sedan, not a hatchback).

Final Verdict: Is the 2018 Porsche Panamera a Good Hatchback?

The 2018 Porsche Panamera is ideal for buyers who prioritize performance and a sporty driving experience in a luxury four-door car. It's worth buying if you appreciate Porsche's engineering and are prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs. A used 2018 Panamera can offer significant value compared to buying new, but a thorough pre-purchase inspection is essential. The 4S trim offers a good balance of performance and price. The Turbo and Turbo S E-Hybrid provide incredible performance but come with a much higher price tag and increased running costs. Consider a Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) model for added peace of mind.

Best car I ever owned

I have a Panamera 4 and it is the best car I have ever owned. After 5 years it has never let me down- not even once- and besides the recall notices that were always handled during regularly scheduled visits nothing has needed attention. The fit and finish and styling are still totally on point after all this time. The car looks and drives exactly like it did when new despite 30,000 miles. Also, I have 21’ wheels and thought I would have to replace the tires by now. However, they are chunky and full of tread. I drove 1000 miles in one day last week averaging 77mph and 29.5mpg. Great performance and a long drive in one day. It was so nice on the road and my body despite the longest drive of my life! Fit and finish, quality of the components, and tech that is totally up to date after 5 years. Wow. Loved it! I also own a cayenne and a 2015 Mercedes S class. The Mercedes is not close to the quality unfortunately.

dont spend the money.

have owned 356's for 55 yrs. this is my first new design . own it 3 wks and sooo disappointed..the looks are spectactular. thats what sold me. you get nothing for your money. the interior is nothing special and practically nothing comes with the car if you dont pay extra...i have the 4 which starts at 89,600 and you get practically nothing that a new Subaru Crosstrak that my friend just bgt comes with for 35k. however, it does handle great and the ride is very comfortable. the amenities stink. the memory is awful. you have to hold the button down till the seat comes up to your setting, instead of just pressing the setting button and letting go, and when shutting off the car it does not go all the way back to let u out, nor does the steering wheel move with your setting... i have had jags for 30 years as second cars and my 2005 was better. i do not reccomend this car.

Happy to have finally bought a Porsche!

As someone who is accustomed to full-size SUVs, lately I have wanted to get a sexy and sporty car. But since I have kids, the decision as to which car became difficult, until my wife suggested the Porsche Panamera. This car is both a comfortable sedan and a sexy sports car. It is a great choice!

Poor quality and poor customer service

In 2 years time the battery failed. The dealer indicated that it had dead cells and so the battery was not charging. Porsche refused to accept that they had installed a defective battery and refused to pay for the new battery. I have had many cars, never a battery failed in 2 years. Beware of the fact that they don't stand behind their expensive products. Make sure you ask for warranty for the battery when buying a Porsche. Otherwise once the sale is complete then you will be on your own.
