Rating: 4.16

Simon A | March 31, 2025
The 2007 Chevrolet Colorado is a compact pickup truck, part of the first generation produced from 2004 to 2012. Available in regular, extended, and crew cab configurations, it offered versatility for both work and personal use. Key trims included the base model, LS, and LT. The original pricing ranged from around $16,000 to $25,000, depending on configuration and options. Its popularity stemmed from its manageable size, fuel efficiency compared to full-size trucks, and affordability.

The Bad

The interior can feel cheap and dated compared to rivals.
Some owners have reported issues with the four-wheel-drive system.

What Problems Does the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado Have?

The 2007 Chevrolet Colorado has a few frequently reported problems. One common issue is with the instrument cluster, where gauges may malfunction or stop working. Another recurring complaint involves the HVAC system, specifically with the blower motor resistor failing, leading to issues with fan speed control. Rust is a major concern, particularly in areas with harsh winters; check the frame, rocker panels, and bed for corrosion. Engine issues, like cylinder head cracking and oil leaks, have also been reported, especially in the Inline-5 engines. There have been recalls related to the fuel system and airbags on certain model years, so it is important to verify if the specific vehicle you are considering has had these issues addressed. Long-term reliability can be affected by these issues, so a thorough inspection is essential before purchasing a used 2007 Colorado. Regularly checking for recalls on the NHTSA website is recommended.

How long will the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado last?

With proper maintenance, a 2007 Chevrolet Colorado can reach 200,000 miles or more. However, its lifespan heavily depends on how well it was maintained. Neglecting oil changes or failing to address issues like rust can significantly shorten its lifespan.
The Inline-5 engine, while generally reliable, can develop head issues over time.
Rust is a major enemy, potentially compromising structural integrity.
Regular maintenance, including rust prevention and timely repairs, is crucial for long-term durability. Good maintenance can get you over 15 years of service.

Had problem with the truck starting factory battery size to small 1000 cold cranking battery fixed it,also has problems starting if the last time I used it I didn't worm it right up
JC
I wanted a truck that could access 4WD forest roads in the winter, but one I could also park in the city. This truck is a perfect size for 2 with room for the occasional 3rd and 4th passenger. Truck can move through most anything, carry loads, tow, and cleans up great. I had 0 mechanical issues in the 4 years I owned this truck (its 9th-13th years of life).
Oldie but goodie
Great little truck for my needs, fun to drive, and really like the style. Four doors excellent for hanging out with grandkids, would recommend this truck to anyone
Negative Owner Reviews
disappointed
I bought this used with 37000 miles on it. 2000 miles later I have had the check engine light come on twice (different causes each time) and the ABS Fault light comes on all the time. Total repair bill would be over $1000.00 and I have only made one payment. After digging deeper I have found that this is common on these vehicles. The steering is a little loose but the truck rides good for a truck and does everything I need but between dash lighting up and the poor gas milage (only 15 mpg out of a 5 cyclinder) I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2007 Chevrolet Colorado's built-in tech is fairly basic by today's standards.
Standard entertainment features generally included an AM/FM radio and a CD player.
Higher trims might have included a premium sound system.
Driver-assistance features were limited, with no advanced safety technologies available.
Standard safety features included front airbags and anti-lock brakes (ABS).
Optional features could include fog lamps and power accessories.
In terms of crash-test ratings, the 2007 Colorado received mixed results from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).
Frontal crash tests typically earned good scores, but side-impact ratings were often lower. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also conducted crash tests, with results varying depending on the cab configuration. It's crucial to research specific crash test results for the body style you are considering. Overall, the 2007 Colorado lacks modern tech and safety features common in newer vehicles.

How Does the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado Compare to Other Pickup Truck?

The 2007 Chevrolet Colorado's key rivals included the Toyota Tacoma, Nissan Frontier, and Ford Ranger.
The Tacoma generally boasts better reliability and resale value.
The Frontier often offers a more modern interior and better off-road capabilities.
The Ranger is comparable in terms of price and features but can also suffer from rust issues. In terms of performance, the Colorado's V8 engine gives it an edge in towing compared to some competitors' smaller engines. However, the Tacoma typically excels in overall performance and build quality. Features-wise, the Colorado lags behind some rivals in terms of available tech and driver-assistance systems. If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Tacoma is a better alternative. If you need a more modern interior, the Nissan Frontier might be preferable. However, if you are looking for a budget-friendly option with available V8 power, the Colorado could still be a decent choice, provided it's well-maintained and rust-free.

Final Verdict: Is the 2007 Chevrolet Colorado a Good Pickup Truck?

The 2007 Chevrolet Colorado is a decent, affordable compact pickup, best suited for individuals needing a basic truck for light-duty tasks. It's ideal for those who don't require the capabilities of a full-size truck and appreciate its smaller footprint.
It's worth buying *used*, provided it's thoroughly inspected for rust and mechanical issues. Opting for a V8 model can provide better performance, but be mindful of fuel economy. LS or LT trims offer a better balance of features and comfort. Due to its age, a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is crucial. If a rust-free, well-maintained example can be found at a good price, it can serve as a reliable and economical work truck.

Performance is only 4 stars because the smaller engine is

Performance is only 4 stars because the smaller engine is not as good, otherwise the 3.7L i5 works and runs at a higher performance than expected for this size truck. Rusts as always on the salty roads of upstate NY.

Great working truck for city, ranch, and family

This truck was purchased used. Maintenance was easy and manageable. 4x4 package paid of at the ranch and at the beach on multiple occassions. Although a 'smaller' truck the Crew Cab package made it easy for all four of us to travel and work in the truck without any issues. This is a great work truck that allows you to get the job done without paying an extra 20k for the bigger versions. Love this truck. I am selling it now only because we got a great deal on the next one. I will probably consider buying this for the boys when they get old enough to drive.

Overall very good car. Little things like the outside thermometer always changes to Celsius and I have to manually put it back to Fahrenheit every time I get in my truck.
