Rating: 4.21
Based on 90 Owner Reviews
Drew B | March 31, 2025
The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado marked the return of a mid-size truck to Chevy's lineup after a brief hiatus. It's available as an extended cab or crew cab pickup, offering both practical utility and car-like comfort. Key trims include the Base, Work Truck (WT), LT, and Z71. New pricing ranged from around $20,000 to $40,000 depending on configuration. Its blend of size, fuel efficiency, and capability made it a popular choice, filling a gap between full-size trucks and smaller, less capable vehicles.
The Good

The 2015 Colorado offers a compelling mix of attributes. Its manageable size is a practical advantage for city driving and parking. Performance is strong, especially with the V6 engine. The interior provides a comfortable and well-designed space. Aesthetically, the Colorado is handsome and modern. Emotionally, it offers truck capability without the bulk of a full-size, appealing to those seeking adventure and a versatile lifestyle. Overall, it delivers great value for the money.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2015 Colorado include the base four-cylinder engine, which can feel underpowered, especially when towing or hauling. Some owners have reported issues with the transmission, particularly rough shifting. Also, the interior materials, while well-designed, may not be the highest quality in some trims. Rust can be a concern in areas with harsh winters or salted roads, so inspect the frame carefully before purchasing. It's important to check service history and perform a thorough inspection.

What Problems Does the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Have?

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado, while generally reliable, has some frequently reported problems. A common concern involves the automatic transmission, with some owners reporting rough or erratic shifting, especially in the early years of production. There have been instances of transmission failures, although these are not widespread. Another area of concern is the electrical system, with some reports of issues with the infotainment system and other electronic components.
Recalls for the 2015 Colorado have included issues related to airbags, specifically the potential for incomplete deployment. Some vehicles were also recalled for potential fuel tank roll-over valve issues. Long-term reliability can be affected by these potential issues. Checking the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls is crucial before purchasing. Rust can also be a long-term reliability factor, especially in regions with salted roads, so inspecting the frame is recommended. Some owners have noted that the interior plastics can show wear and tear over time. Addressing these potential issues proactively through regular maintenance and inspections can help mitigate their impact on long-term reliability.

How long will the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado last?

With consistent maintenance, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado can reasonably be expected to reach 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report exceeding this milestone with proper care. Years of service can easily stretch beyond 10-15 years, depending on usage and environmental conditions. Long-term durability hinges on addressing potential weaknesses, such as transmission issues and rust prevention. Regular fluid changes, timely repairs, and undercoating can significantly extend the vehicle's lifespan. Early models may show wear in interior components, but overall, the Colorado is known for its robust engine and drivetrain, contributing to its long-term durability.

Just picked it up but I Love it already! I've only had it a day and I wish I'd found it sooner, what a great truck!
AmandaM
Test drove all mid sized trucks, multiple times and this won out by far! It's bigger than the rest, works for short and tall drivers, excellent pick up and go. Unlike the others, the LT model came standard with all kinds of extras, like a back up cam, usb chargers, towing package, alarm, etc. It was excellent for carpool, groceries, road trips, etc.

This was bought brand new and in 5 years, it’s FALLING APART!!! Me won’t come out of the ignition. Electrical system is Haywire!!! Transmission going out!!!!! Plastic covers under dash falling off on feet while driving. Just an overall NIGHTMARE! A pc of JUNK!!!!! It’s at the dealership right now and they’re trying to figure this out. I brought it to a Mom and Pop this week. They can’t find what’s wrong. I was told, “Your truck is possessed.”

Riddled with problems and poor service ability, limited parts availability...I have never seen more premature component failures in my entire career than on these trucks.

Would write a review of the truck but after filling everything out and requesting the quote nobody has ever contacted me back about a quote for truck. Guessing I won't be using this site again!

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado offered a reasonable suite of tech and safety features for its time. The standard infotainment system in lower trims was fairly basic, but the LT and Z71 trims featured the Chevrolet MyLink system with a touchscreen display, Bluetooth connectivity, and smartphone integration via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto (though Android Auto was added in later model years). A rearview camera was standard on the LT and Z71 trims, providing added safety and convenience for parking and maneuvering.
Optional features included forward collision alert and lane departure warning, offering some driver assistance capabilities. However, advanced features like adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring were not available.
Safety features included standard anti-lock brakes, stability control, and a full complement of airbags. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) crash-test ratings for the 2015 Colorado were generally positive, with an overall score of four out of five stars. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also awarded the Colorado good ratings in several crashworthiness categories, though it's important to check specific ratings for different cab configurations. Overall, the 2015 Colorado strikes a good balance of essential tech and safety features, with options available to enhance the driving experience.

2015 Chevrolet Colorado Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado ranged from approximately $20,000 for the base model to around $40,000 for a fully equipped Z71 crew cab. As of today, used market prices vary widely depending on condition, mileage, and trim, but typically range from $15,000 to $25,000. Depreciation has been moderate, influenced by the truck's reputation for reliability and its continued popularity. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's condition, mileage, maintenance history, and trim level. 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Cost of Ownership

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado generally offers moderate ownership costs. Insurance premiums are typically reasonable for its class. Fuel economy is decent, especially with the four-cylinder engine, though the V6 consumes more fuel. Routine maintenance is straightforward, and parts are readily available, keeping repair costs manageable. While not the most economical vehicle on the market, the Colorado strikes a good balance between capability and affordability. 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle Cab; Extended with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Cab; Extended?

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado competes directly with the Toyota Tacoma and Nissan Frontier. In terms of performance, the Colorado's V6 engine offers competitive power, while the Tacoma boasts a strong off-road pedigree. Feature-wise, the Colorado generally has a more modern interior design and infotainment system compared to the Frontier, but the Tacoma has more available off-road specific features. Reliability is a key strength for the Tacoma, often considered the gold standard, while the Colorado has had some reported transmission issues. The Frontier is known for its simplicity and affordability, but lacks the refinement of the other two.
Price-wise, the Colorado typically falls between the Tacoma and Frontier.
Alternatives to consider include the Honda Ridgeline (for a more comfortable and car-like experience) and newer model years of the Colorado and Tacoma (which may address some of the earlier concerns). The Tacoma remains a strong contender due to its reliability, but the Colorado offers a compelling blend of features, performance, and price, making it a worthwhile option for many buyers. Consider test driving all vehicles to determine which best suits your needs and preferences.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado a Good Sport Utility Vehicle Cab; Extended?

The 2015 Chevrolet Colorado is ideal for buyers seeking a capable and versatile mid-size truck that's easier to maneuver than a full-size pickup. It's a solid choice for individuals who need to tow occasionally, haul cargo, or navigate tight city streets. Whether it's worth buying depends on the specific vehicle's condition and price. A well-maintained example with a clean service history is a worthwhile investment. The LT or Z71 trims are preferable for their enhanced features and comfort. Given the age, buying used is the only option. Have a mechanic inspect the transmission before purchasing, and consider models with lower mileage and documented maintenance records. If you value reliability above all else, the Toyota Tacoma might be a better choice, but the Colorado offers a compelling alternative with a more modern feel.

Great truck

I commute 700 miles a week in this truck. It gets good gas mileage and is reliable and comfortable. At 263,000 miles it is still going strong and my mechanic thinks I may get another 100,000 to 150,000 miles. It’s a great smaller-sized truck.
