The Good
The 2017 Colorado offers a blend of practicality and appeal. Performance advantages include available V6 power and impressive towing capacity. It's relatively comfortable for a mid-size truck, with a well-designed interior. Fuel efficiency is decent, especially with the diesel engine. For emotional buyers, the ZR2 trim offers serious off-road prowess and a rugged aesthetic. From a practical side, it offers a good value as a useful truck for daily driving, work, or weekend adventures.
The Bad
Some weaknesses of the 2017 Colorado include the base engine being underpowered for some needs. The interior materials can feel cheap in lower trims. The automatic transmission (specifically the 8-speed) has had reported issues with shuddering. Watch out for potential transmission problems during test drives and check service history carefully. Rust can be an issue in some areas, so inspect the undercarriage.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features include standard airbags, anti-lock brakes, and stability control. The 2017 Colorado received good crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration), though results can vary depending on the cab configuration. Some models earned a 'Good' rating in certain IIHS crash tests. Check specific ratings for the chosen cab style (extended cab or crew cab). The lack of advanced driver-assistance systems like adaptive cruise control or blind-spot monitoring is a notable omission compared to some rivals.

How Does the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Cab; Truck?
In terms of performance, the Colorado's V6 and diesel engines offer competitive power and towing capacity. Feature-wise, the Colorado's MyLink infotainment system is user-friendly. However, the Tacoma has better off-road credentials (excluding the ZR2 Colorado). Reliability is a mixed bag; the Tacoma is generally more reliable, while the Colorado's 8-speed transmission can be a concern. Price-wise, the Colorado sits in the middle of the pack.
A similar alternative is the GMC Canyon, which is essentially a rebadged Colorado with slightly different styling and features. Depending on priorities (reliability vs. features and price), the Toyota Tacoma or Honda Ridgeline might be better alternatives. For off-road enthusiasts specifically, the ZR2 Colorado is a strong contender.

Final Verdict: Is the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado a Good Sport Utility Vehicle Cab; Truck?
Consider the V6 or diesel engine for better performance. Carefully inspect the transmission for any signs of shuddering or harsh shifting, and factor in potential repair costs. The Z71 trim is a good choice for light off-roading, while the ZR2 is for serious off-road enthusiasts. Weigh the potential reliability concerns against its features and price compared to rivals like the Tacoma.

Great pickup.I was looking for an economical pickup with towing capacity. The Chevy Colorado DuraMax Diesel fit my needs and White Bear Mitsubishi had the one I liked best at the price I could afford. I would have liked the upgraded seats but the standard chevy seats are very comfortable. We took a road trip Saturday after buying it and traveled in town and hwy averaging 29.8 MPG. I am going to love this truck.
