What Problems Does the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox Have?

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox has experienced some frequently reported problems. One common concern involves excessive oil consumption, particularly in the 1.5L turbocharged engine. This can lead to engine damage if not monitored and addressed. Some owners have also reported issues with the infotainment system, including glitches, slow response times, and connectivity problems with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Recalls for the 2019 Equinox have addressed issues such as fuel pump malfunctions, potentially causing the engine to stall, and a possible problem with the rear brake calipers that could affect braking performance. Check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information.

Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the durability of electronic components and the longevity of the 1.5L turbo engine, especially with regards to oil consumption. Some owners have noted premature wear of brake components. Routine maintenance and prompt attention to any warning signs are crucial for mitigating these potential issues.

How long will the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox last?

With proper maintenance, a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox can reasonably be expected to last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-13 years. Regular oil changes, timely servicing of the transmission, and addressing any warning lights promptly are key to longevity. The 1.5L turbo engine, while generally reliable, can be prone to oil consumption over time. Keeping an eye on oil levels and adhering to recommended maintenance schedules can help extend the engine's lifespan. Weaknesses often appear in the form of electronic glitches and potential A/C compressor issues as the vehicle ages.

My second Equinox. Love the size and performance for around town. Just wish there was air vents in the back seat. The interior is well layed out.

I purchased this vehicle sight unseen, used. I test drove an identical vehicle and loved it. My Equinox far exceeded my expectations! So far in the nearly 2/3 years of ownership, I continue to average 34 mpg, I couldn't be happier! Goes through the snow like a trooper and handles very well on icy roads. I do not like the auto stop/start, there is a hesitation and could pose a problem, no one will disconnect it for me! I am having a fuel problem! Very frightening, no one seems to find the problem!!! You can smell raw gasoline while: starting, idling at a stop sign, driving down the road and even after shutting the vehicle off - very frightening - no one can find the problem but they can sure smell the gasoline! It's frightening enough that I've removed my husband's oxygen tanks from the back and we no longer wear seat belts for a just in case moment. Since the gasoline smell the vehicle has become hard to start. Other than the gasoline smell/leak & auto stop/start the vehicle is perfect!

Eternally grateful for the support and professionalism service rendered by Byron Miller, I highly recommend to anyone looking to purchase a car from Shea Chevrolet.

Junk...intercooler freezes when colder than 30 degrees total junk in minnesota. Rydell was a total joke to work with . They were great when giving them a pile of money but 50 days later when problem arose were impossible to work with. Did not care one bit.

Its a nice family car but at 30 thousand it's had a knock I believe when first starting. When turbo kicks in its hard to get it to stop

My 2019 Chevrolet Equinox LT AWD vehicle is by far the worst vehicle I have owned. Truthfully, I donโ€™t own it since my company purchased it as part of a fleet program. Even at the company expense, I cannot remain in this vehicle. The engines stalls, the traction is similar to a slip & slide, the seats are both uncomfortable and fabric has worn excessively poorly. I do not feel safe in this vehicle. On the highway, it seems to be challenging to keep the steering stable if the toad has any bumps, gravel, water, etc. I have been in 3 life threatening situations this vehicle has placed me in. With the significant nature of the recalls, I am surprised to see so many on the road. The last mechanic I went to for routine service said he had never seen one vehicle have so many different issues. I have let my employer know that while I am appreciative of the benefit, I am no longer comfortable with the safety risk I feel in this vehicle.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox comes with a solid suite of built-in technology. The standard infotainment system includes a 7-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto compatibility. Higher trims offer an 8-inch touchscreen, navigation, and a premium Bose audio system.

Standard driver-assistance features include a rearview camera. Optional features available on higher trims include: forward collision alert, lane departure warning with lane keep assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and adaptive cruise control.

Safety features include: electronic stability control, traction control, anti-lock brakes, and a suite of airbags. The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox received good crash-test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety). Check these agencies' websites for the most current and detailed crash-test results. Features like Teen Driver technology, which allows parents to set limits and monitor driving habits, are also available.

2019 Chevrolet Equinox Prices and Market Value

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox had a starting MSRP of around $24,000 for the base L trim and could reach upwards of $35,000 for a fully equipped Premier model. As of late 2024, used market prices generally range from $14,000 to $22,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. The Equinox depreciates at a moderate rate. Factors affecting resale value include: overall condition, mileage, accident history, trim level (Premier models hold their value better), and optional features. Vehicles with clean titles and well-documented maintenance records command higher prices.

2019 Chevrolet Equinox Cost of Ownership

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox is generally considered economical to own. Insurance costs are typically moderate. Fuel costs are reasonable, especially with the 1.5L turbo engine. Routine maintenance is relatively affordable. However, potential repairs, particularly related to the engine (oil consumption) or infotainment system, could increase long-term ownership costs. Overall, it offers a good balance between affordability and reliability, making it a cost-effective choice for many buyers.

2019 Chevrolet Equinox Insurance

Insurance for a 2019 Chevrolet Equinox is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox competes with rivals like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, Mazda CX-5, and Ford Escape. In terms of performance, the Equinox's 2.0L turbo engine offers decent power, but the base engine can feel sluggish compared to some competitors. Feature-wise, it offers a comparable set of technology and safety features. Reliability is a mixed bag; the CR-V and RAV4 generally have better reliability ratings. Price-wise, the Equinox is often slightly more affordable than the CR-V and RAV4, offering good value.

The Mazda CX-5 provides a more engaging driving experience and a more upscale interior, but it sacrifices some cargo space. The Ford Escape offers a wider range of engine options and a sportier driving feel. The Hyundai Tucson and Kia Sportage offer strong warranties and competitive pricing.

Alternatives to consider, depending on priorities, include the Honda CR-V (for reliability and resale value), Mazda CX-5 (for driving experience and interior), or Hyundai Tucson/Kia Sportage (for value and warranty). The Equinox remains a solid choice, especially for those prioritizing affordability and a comfortable ride, but it's crucial to weigh its strengths and weaknesses against the competition.

Final Verdict: Is the 2019 Chevrolet Equinox a Good Wagon?

The 2019 Chevrolet Equinox is ideal for individuals or small families seeking a comfortable, affordable, and well-equipped compact SUV. It's worth buying, especially on the used market, if you prioritize value and a comfortable ride. However, be mindful of potential reliability issues and oil consumption concerns, particularly with the 1.5L engine.

The LT or Premier trims offer a better balance of features and value compared to the base L and LS trims. A thorough inspection and a pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic are highly recommended to assess the vehicle's condition and identify any potential problems before committing to a purchase.

This review is for a 2.

This review is for a 2.0 turbo AWD Equinox Premier that I bought new six years ago and put 95,000 miles on. Sadly, this 252 HP engine was discontinued shortly after I bought it. Only maintenance in its life were infrequent car washes, twelve oil changes, twelve tire rotations, four new tires at 66,000 miles, rear brakes at 72,000 miles, air and cabin filters replaced twice. Iโ€™m still on my original battery and original front brakes. It should be noted that I only use 5W-30 Mobil 1 oil and I change the oil myself religiously as the car tells me to, and rotate tires the same week. For disposal, I pour the oil back into the same container that it was purchased in, so I can say without a doubt that the car has never burned (or leaked) a single shot glass of oil in its entire life. I have never reset the odometer since the car left the factory, so I can say that it has averaged 26.2 miles per gallon over its life, terrific given the power that it has, though I will say that almost all of its miles are highway. That also explains why my mileage on my tires and brakes are so good. And I should add a comment on the auto stop/start that so many in here donโ€™t seem to like. I love it.

I've been driving this car for nearly two years, have added 38k miles on it so far, and am now pushing 95K everything's been great, I haven't had any reliability issues, and everything is running smoothly. However, the gas mileage is nowhere near their claims, granted to don't drive conservatively but I'm getting anywhere from 19-22 mpg. Great car overall, especially for the price.

It always got me to where I needed to go

I owned my Chevy for 2.5 years. I live in MI and for not having AWD, I thought it handled great in the snow (didn't drive go off-roading of course ๐Ÿ˜‰ ), and I had snow tires (I would recommend snow tires no matter what!) Never had any huge issues. I was told to always check the oil since these cars are know for leaking however, I never had an issue. The caliper started to stick (had less than 58k miles). At random times while at a stop, the vehicle would shake a little, nothing crazy but odd. I would hear horror stories of these Chevys going out at 80K, and that started to make me nervous. The auto-stop was annoying, no way to turn that off. I noticed that the auto-stop would go off by itself it you were stopped for longer than a min. I went to a Toyota Camry and after hearing/seeing all the review for those, I am happy that I no longer own this ticking timebomb. However, by the grace of God, I was never left stranded, it always got me to where I needed to go. Good luck to any future buyers.

Ok for the value

The car is a good gas saver however the performance is a little off. The system as far as coils or tune up will go out without warning . Also the tire sensors are off

Transmission went out at 70K miles

I bought a 2019 Equinox Premier after owning two Ford Edge Limiteds. The interior of this thing is great. All the bells and whistles. It had about 70k miles on it which is more than I like, but it also had a clean CarFax and I take good care of my cars so I figured even with a few more miles I could get several years out of her. I had this vehicle 5 weeks, drove it less than 1200 miles, and the transmission went out. Left me stranded at night on the side of a highway. I've NEVER had this happen with another car (I've owned 3 Fords, a Nissan, and a Pontiac back in the day). I'll never buy a Chevy again.
