The 2009 Chrysler 300 is a full-size sedan known for its bold styling and spacious interior. Part of the first generation (2005-2010), it offered a blend of American muscle and luxury. Key trims included the base 300, Touring, Limited, and the performance-oriented 300C. New pricing ranged from around $25,000 to $40,000 depending on the trim and options. Its distinctive, almost gangster-like appearance and available Hemi V8 engine made it a popular choice.
The Good

The 2009 Chrysler 300 offers a compelling mix of advantages. Its powerful engine options (especially the Hemi) provide strong performance, appealing to those seeking excitement. The spacious and comfortable interior attracts practical buyers, while the bold design makes an emotional statement. It also represents good value for the size and features offered.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2009 Chrysler 300 include lower fuel economy, especially with the V8 engines. Reliability can be a concern, with some owners reporting issues with electrical components and suspension. The interior materials in lower trims may feel cheap for some compared to rivals. Also, check for rust, especially in areas with harsh winters.

What Problems Does the 2009 Chrysler 300 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2009 Chrysler 300 often revolve around electrical issues, including problems with the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM), which can cause a variety of issues like stalling, difficulty starting, and malfunctioning accessories. Suspension components, particularly the front suspension, can wear prematurely, leading to clunking noises and poor handling. Some owners have also reported issues with the automatic transmission, including rough shifting and slipping.

Recalls for the 2009 Chrysler 300 have addressed issues such as potential problems with the fuel tank, which could leak in a rear-end collision, and faulty airbags. It's essential to check the vehicle's VIN for any outstanding recalls before purchasing. Long-term reliability can be a concern, particularly with higher mileage examples. Regular maintenance and addressing issues promptly are crucial to extending the vehicle's lifespan. Rust can also be a concern, especially in areas where salt is used on the roads during winter. Inspect the undercarriage and lower body panels for signs of corrosion. While the 2009 model year didn't have significantly different issues compared to other years in the same generation, it's still important to be aware of these potential problems.

How long will the 2009 Chrysler 300 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2009 Chrysler 300 can realistically achieve 200,000 miles or more. Many owners report reaching this milestone with diligent servicing, including regular oil changes, fluid flushes, and timely repairs. However, neglected maintenance can significantly shorten its lifespan. Key long-term durability weaknesses include potential issues with the suspension, electrical components (like the TIPM), and the automatic transmission. Rust is also a concern in colder climates. Address these issues proactively to maximize the car's lifespan. Some owners have managed over 15 years of service, showcasing the car's potential longevity when cared for properly.

This car has exceeded my expectations! Roomy , it drives ike a dream! It also looks great and is super clean!
Jacob Fredrickson
My first vehicle was a 2006 300 base model. Was a good car but just didn't run right. Went and bought an '09 300 Touring and I can't heap enough praise on this car. Runs wonderfully, rides like a dream, and has more than enough space to do whatever I need with it. A bonus is this car has enough power to satisfy the motorhead in me. I'd recommend a 300 to anyone looking for a new sedan. Love this car!

Negative Owner Reviews

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2009 Chrysler 300 offered a reasonable suite of tech and safety features for its time. Standard entertainment included an AM/FM radio with a CD player and auxiliary input. Higher trims offered upgraded audio systems with more speakers and features. A navigation system was available as an option. Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles, but included available features like rear parking sensors.

Safety features included standard antilock brakes (ABS), traction control, and electronic stability control (ESC). Front and side airbags were also standard. Optional safety features included side curtain airbags.

Crash test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) for the 2009 Chrysler 300 are generally good. The NHTSA gave it four or five stars for frontal and side impact protection. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also conducted crash tests. Note that specific ratings can vary slightly depending on the exact configuration and year of testing. It's always recommended to check official sources like NHTSA and IIHS for the most up-to-date and accurate crash test information. Overall, the 2009 300 provided a decent level of safety for its era, but lacks the advanced driver-assistance systems found in newer cars.

2009 Chrysler 300 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2009 Chrysler 300 ranged from approximately $25,000 for the base model to around $40,000 for the 300C with all the options. Current used market prices vary greatly based on condition, mileage, and location. Expect to find them ranging from around $4,000 to $10,000. The Chrysler 300 has depreciated significantly since its original price. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, trim level (300C models hold their value better), and the presence of a clean title and service records. High mileage and deferred maintenance negatively impact resale value significantly.

2009 Chrysler 300 Cost of Ownership

The 2009 Chrysler 300 is not the most economical vehicle to own. Insurance costs are moderate. Fuel costs can be high, especially with the Hemi V8. Maintenance costs are average for a full-size sedan, but potential repairs, particularly electrical and suspension work, can add up. Long-term ownership costs can be higher than some rivals due to potential reliability issues. Budgeting for potential repairs is advisable. Regular preventative maintenance will help keep costs down.

How Does the 2009 Chrysler 300 Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2009 Chrysler 300 competed with full-size sedans like the Ford Crown Victoria, Toyota Avalon, Chevrolet Impala, and Nissan Maxima. In terms of performance, the 300C with the Hemi V8 offered a significant advantage over many rivals. The Avalon provided better reliability and fuel economy, but lacked the 300's bold styling. The Impala was more affordable but offered a less upscale interior. The Crown Victoria was known for its durability but had a dated design and limited features. The Maxima offered a sportier driving experience than the base 300, but lacked the 300's spaciousness.

If reliability is a top priority, the Toyota Avalon is a better alternative. If you prefer a more modern interior and features, a newer used Nissan Maxima might be a good choice. For those on a tight budget, the Chevrolet Impala offers similar practicality at a lower price point, albeit with less style. Ultimately, the 300's appeal lies in its unique styling and available V8 power, making it a compelling choice for buyers who prioritize those aspects over absolute reliability or fuel efficiency.

Final Verdict: Is the 2009 Chrysler 300 a Good Sedan?

The 2009 Chrysler 300 is ideal for buyers who appreciate its bold styling, spacious interior, and available V8 performance. It's worth buying as a used vehicle if you're aware of its potential reliability issues and are prepared to perform regular maintenance. The 300C trim is particularly desirable for its Hemi engine and upgraded features, but comes at a higher price. A well-maintained 300 Touring or Limited can offer a good balance of features and value. Avoid models with a history of neglected maintenance or significant rust. A pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended to assess the vehicle's condition and identify any potential problems.

Most reliable car that I have owned

Great family car but road noise needs improvement. I currently have about 59,260 miles on this car which I bought new in 2009, So far my unscheduled maintenance cost is $93.25 for a brake pedal switch in 2017.

Beautiful car for the price

I recently purchase this car and it definitely a looker. The inside is extremely roomy and the design is very chic. Trunk has a ton of room about the same as a truck. The radio is surround sound which is also nice when my kid is in the back sleep I can make the sound come from only the front speakers. However I hate that the car is rear wheel drive. It?s take off is not as fast either which is to be expected. I But I do rate it overall a 4 out of 5.
