The 2012 Chrysler 300 is a full-size sedan that revived Chrysler's reputation for bold design and comfort. Part of the second generation (2011-2014), it boasts a distinctive, imposing aesthetic. Key trims included the base 300, 300S, 300C, and 300C Luxury Series. New pricing ranged from approximately $28,000 to $40,000. Its spacious interior, available V8 power, and sophisticated styling made it a popular choice for those seeking a luxurious yet attainable sedan.
The Good

The 2012 Chrysler 300 offers a compelling blend of attributes. Performance is strong, especially with the V8. Comfort is excellent with a spacious, well-appointed cabin. The bold design provides emotional appeal, while the relatively affordable price, good fuel efficiency (with the V6), and spaciousness appeal to practical buyers looking for value and a capable family car.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2012 Chrysler 300 include reported issues with the electrical system and some transmission problems. Owners should watch out for warning lights, unusual shifting, and ensure regular maintenance is performed. The rear-wheel-drive configuration can also be challenging in snowy conditions without proper tires. Some interior materials may feel less premium than competitors.

What Problems Does the 2012 Chrysler 300 Have?

The 2012 Chrysler 300 has experienced some frequently reported problems. Electrical issues are commonly cited, including problems with the infotainment system, power windows, and lighting. Some owners have reported transmission issues, such as rough shifting or failure, though this is not widespread. There have been recalls issued for various issues, including airbag malfunctions and problems with the fuel system. It's essential to check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information. Long-term reliability can be a concern, with potential issues arising from the aforementioned electrical and transmission problems. Maintaining the vehicle according to the manufacturer's recommendations is crucial to mitigating potential issues. Pre-purchase inspections by a qualified mechanic are highly recommended to identify any existing problems. Some reports suggest the earlier model years of the second generation (2011-2012) had a higher frequency of reported issues compared to later years. Therefore, a thorough inspection is crucial, especially for these model years. Issues with the TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Module) have also been reported, leading to various electrical malfunctions.

How long will the 2012 Chrysler 300 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2012 Chrysler 300 can reasonably be expected to last 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years. However, longevity heavily depends on maintenance habits. Regular oil changes, timely repairs, and addressing issues promptly are crucial. Long-term durability concerns revolve around the electrical system, potential transmission problems, and the wear and tear of interior components. The suspension components might also require attention over time. Neglecting maintenance can significantly shorten the vehicle's lifespan and increase the likelihood of major repairs. Proper care can extend the vehicle's usability and minimize costly breakdowns.
Positive Owner Reviews

Had nothing but issues finding out its all electrical recalls and I'm always stuck taking it to shop ,wait very long weeks to months with out a car due to wait on parts ect ,one dealership told me it would be a yr and that I needed to tow the car off the lot. Until a yr when they would get Part in ,love the car as far as style and comfort but I will never buy another chrysler again ,I work 6 days a week and can't even drive it ,every few months I've had to bring it in ,
AC968
Luxury interior, beautiful exterior styling, great performance with the 5.7 Hemi, extremely comfortable for longer road trips, and great reliability all the time I had it. Would recommend to anyone and everyone!
Robin W
The style outside and inside are just unmatched of all other large cars. It's very quiet and very comfortable. It handles very well too. For such a large car, I got 33 mpg driving the hilly PA tpk 65-70 in winter. As for reliability, we have an Avalon that breaks down very often and a Town and Country never does that. The 300 so far has been even better in that regards.
Negative Owner Reviews
Adam Barker
The vehicle was unable to drive second day after purchasing. When attempting to have the vehicle fixed, that was not an option, the only "favor" would be to get the car back on the road by rigging it.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2012 Chrysler 300 offered a decent array of tech, entertainment, and safety features for its time. Standard features included a Uconnect infotainment system with a 4.3-inch touchscreen, a 6-speaker audio system, and dual-zone climate control. Higher trims offered an upgraded 8.4-inch touchscreen with navigation, a premium audio system (including options like Beats by Dr. Dre), and Bluetooth connectivity.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles but could include optional features like adaptive cruise control and blind-spot monitoring.

Safety features included standard antilock brakes, stability control, traction control, and multiple airbags. Optional safety features included a rearview camera and parking sensors.

Crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) were generally good, with the 2012 Chrysler 300 receiving top scores in several categories. The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) also awarded the 300 a good overall safety rating. These ratings provide some assurance of the vehicle's ability to protect occupants in the event of a collision. The Uconnect system, while functional, can feel dated compared to modern infotainment systems.

2012 Chrysler 300 Prices and Market Value

The 2012 Chrysler 300 had a new price range of approximately $28,000 to $40,000, depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $8,000 to $15,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim. The Chrysler 300 has experienced significant depreciation due to its age and the full-size sedan market's decline. Factors affecting resale value include vehicle condition, mileage, accident history, and the presence of desirable features like the V8 engine or premium audio system. Well-maintained examples with lower mileage tend to command higher prices. Limited demand for large sedans compared to SUVs also impacts the depreciation rate.

2012 Chrysler 300 Cost of Ownership

The 2012 Chrysler 300 is moderately expensive to own long-term. Insurance costs are average for its class. Fuel costs can be high, especially with the V8 engine. Maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average due to potential electrical and transmission issues. Regular maintenance is critical to prevent costly repairs. While the initial purchase price is attractive, potential repair bills can make it less economical than some competitors. Budgeting for potential maintenance is essential when considering a used 2012 Chrysler 300.

Insurance for a 2012 Chrysler 300 is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sedan with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2012 Chrysler 300 Compare to Other Sedan?

The 2012 Chrysler 300 competed with full-size sedans like the Toyota Avalon, Ford Taurus, and Buick LaCrosse. In terms of performance, the 300 with the V8 offered a significant advantage. Feature-wise, it was competitive, offering comparable amenities. However, reliability is where the 300 falls short compared to the Avalon, which boasts a strong reputation for dependability. The Taurus offered available AWD, which the 300 also had, and more modern tech. The LaCrosse provided a more refined and luxurious interior.

Price-wise, the 300 was often more affordable than the Avalon but similar to the Taurus and LaCrosse.

Alternatives to consider include:
  • Toyota Avalon: For superior reliability and resale value.
  • Ford Taurus: For available AWD and updated technology.
  • Buick LaCrosse: For a more luxurious interior and comfortable ride.

The 300 stands out for its bold styling and available V8 power, but potential buyers should weigh its reliability concerns against the alternatives.

Final Verdict: Is the 2012 Chrysler 300 a Good Sedan?

The 2012 Chrysler 300 is ideal for buyers seeking a stylish, spacious, and relatively affordable full-size sedan with available V8 power. It's worth buying used if you're aware of its potential reliability issues and willing to perform diligent maintenance. A pre-purchase inspection is a must. The 300S and 300C trims offer desirable features. Given the potential for electrical and transmission problems, lower mileage examples with documented maintenance history are preferable. If reliability is a top priority, consider alternatives like the Toyota Avalon. However, if you value style and powerful engine options, the 2012 Chrysler 300 can be a compelling choice with the right precautions.

Steering column bearing

I bought my Chrysler 300 2012 brand new and when I took it to have the steering column repaired the dealership told me that they don't make that part anymore. Left me stun because I don't know what to do about it .I have always took my car to the dealership for repairs and oil changes. Still today I can't find anyone to fix it .I am very disappointed in the dealership. I need my car for work and doctor appointments. That car cost me a hefty penny. They should stop selling cars if they can't fix them . So disappointed!!!
