The Good
The 2014 Honda Pilot excels in reliability and offers a comfortable ride with ample passenger space, appealing to practical buyers. Its strong V6 engine provides adequate performance. While not the most stylish, its functionality and Honda's reputation for dependability offer peace of mind, which resonates emotionally.
The Bad
Weaknesses of the 2014 Honda Pilot include somewhat uninspired styling and a dated interior compared to newer SUVs. The infotainment system is basic. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission, so check for smooth shifting during test drives. Fuel economy isn't class-leading.

What Problems Does the 2014 Honda Pilot Have?
Recalls for the 2014 model year have been issued for issues like potential fuel leakage due to faulty fuel tank assembly, which could increase the risk of a fire. Check the NHTSA website for recall information specific to the VIN.
Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the VCM system and potential transmission wear. Regular maintenance, including timely fluid changes, can mitigate some of these risks. Before purchasing a used 2014 Pilot, a thorough inspection by a qualified mechanic is highly recommended, focusing on the transmission and engine.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Driver-assistance features are limited compared to newer vehicles, with only a rearview camera available on upper trims. Safety features include standard antilock brakes, stability control, and multiple airbags.
The 2014 Honda Pilot received generally positive crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration). It earned an overall score of 4 out of 5 stars from NHTSA. Specific ratings vary depending on the test. Check the IIHS and NHTSA websites for detailed crash-test results. The lack of advanced driver-assistance systems like lane departure warning or adaptive cruise control is a notable omission compared to more modern SUVs.

How Does the 2014 Honda Pilot Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
In terms of features, the Pilot's technology is somewhat dated compared to newer models of its rivals. Price-wise, the Pilot generally falls in the middle of the pack. If reliability is paramount, the Toyota Highlander is a similar alternative. For those prioritizing cargo space, the Chevrolet Traverse is worth considering, though with potential reliability trade-offs. If a sportier driving experience is desired, the Ford Explorer may be an option, but be prepared for potentially higher maintenance costs. Overall, the Pilot offers a balanced combination of reliability, space, and affordability.

Final Verdict: Is the 2014 Honda Pilot a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

Best vehicle I've ever ownedI bought my 2014 Pilot Touring 4x4 used 4 years ago with 67k miles on her. We're at 150k now still going strong other than tires and routine maintenance no issues at all. She handles great on all terrain and in all weather, shes big enough to haul the family around town, move across the country in comfort or a weekend at the lake and you'd never know there was a trailer or a boat behind you. They did lose a star on the exterior for the paint peel on the roof above the windshield as others have mentioned.

Great SUV but Beware of common issuesBEWARE OF THE PAINT ISSUES WITH THESE SUV'S. My Maroon Pilot has chipping paint on the roof due to poor clear coat by Honda and it is going to cost $1700 to get it repainted. BEWARE OF THE VCM ISSUES AS WELL...When the Pilot goes into Economy mode it shuts down 3 cylinders that often get starved for oil. The cylinders will then fail and thats an expensive job to repair. I really love the Pilot but I wish Honda would own up to the issues they are having instead of blaming them on the customer. I do love the amout of room in the car and I love the boxy look. The Pilot handles great in the snow as well

Don't buy one with more than 60000 miles on it!!!Great reputation, reputation is not real ! Mine has 120,000 miles on it. It started vibrating while driving. The electronic active motor mounts needed to be replaced. You better hang on รยขรขโยฌรยฆ the parts alone were $1400 then $1700 labor!!!! $3100 and now it needs a radiator and an electronic gizmo for the navigation system. That's another $2500. Great when new but expensive as it gets older. My CR-V not a dime except for normal maintenance and it has 310000 miles on it. I'm not getting rid of it as it is in fantastic shape but if something else big comes up it's outa here!

Electronics issues at the 8 year mark?Have a 2014 white Honda Pilot with 74k miles on it. Just giving a rundown of things that have needed to be addressed since I purchased it in Nov. 2016. I live in Fl where I've heard that the heat & humidity wreak havoc on car electronics in general. Sept. 2021 - Replaced Multiplex Control Unit (MCIU) due to a parasitic drain on the battery. Went through 2 batteries in two months because of this issue. Sept. 16, 2022 - Car battery was completely dead. Had it towed into local dealer for diagnosis. They could not find an issue with any electronics. Sept. 26, 2022 - Car battery appears to have power, but vehicle won't start after attempting to turn the ignition. Could be the starter, but won't know until it gets towed.

2014 Honda Pilot paint problemsMy 2014 Honda Pilot was fine until the white diamond paint began to peel off the roof and bubble on the rear tailgate.I have notified Honda of this and they say I am 1 year out of warranty. So far Honda has not accepted resposibility for this.

Although a little dated.....Although a little dated, this Pilot is actually better than it's newer models. Built like a tank but runs and rides like a limo, this pilot was built to last. Many luxury amenities only found in much more expensive competitors models. With proper care, this baby will easily pass the 200,000 mile marker.
