The Good
The 2006 Hyundai Tucson offers strong value and practicality. Its compact size makes it easy to maneuver, while the comfortable ride and available features like heated seats appeal to comfort-seeking buyers. It was known for decent reliability for its price point, and the attractive styling, for its time, gave it a modern edge for those looking for an affordable yet stylish SUV.
The Bad
Weaknesses of the 2006 Hyundai Tucson include less-than-stellar fuel economy compared to some competitors and a somewhat basic interior. Potential buyers should watch out for rust, particularly in areas with road salt, and be mindful of potential issues with the automatic transmission. The engine performance is adequate but not thrilling.

What Problems Does the 2006 Hyundai Tucson Have?
Recalls for the 2006 Tucson were issued for issues like brake light switch malfunctions, which could prevent the brake lights from illuminating and affect cruise control operation. Check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) database for a comprehensive list of recalls.
Long-term reliability concerns often relate to the longevity of the engine and transmission. Regular maintenance, including timely fluid changes, is crucial to mitigating these risks. Suspension components, such as struts and bushings, may also require replacement over time. Electrical issues, though less common, can also arise as the vehicle ages. Addressing minor problems promptly can prevent them from escalating into more costly repairs.

How Does the 2006 Hyundai Tucson Compare to Other Wagon?
Alternatives to consider include the Mazda Tribute (related to the Ford Escape), which offered similar performance and features at a competitive price. If reliability is a top priority, a slightly older Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4 might be a better choice, even if it means paying a bit more. The Subaru Forester is another alternative, offering standard all-wheel drive. Ultimately, the Tucson is a reasonable choice for budget-conscious buyers willing to accept some compromises in other areas. Before purchasing, a thorough inspection is highly recommended.

Tucson parking lightsI recently traded in my 2010 ford fusion for this suv, so far ive enjoyed it. Ran into a very frustrating issue the day i bought the car. Not sure if anyone else has had the same issue. My model has manual lights so i have to turn them to ON when the car is started, once i turn them to OFF and remove the key from the ignition they parking lights stay on. I then waited 20 mins to see if they would shut off on there own and it wasnt the case. I then started flicking the knob to on and off and they still wouldnt shut off. I then restart the car and turn them to off again and shut the car off again. I wait for a click noise in the dash and try again and most times they shut off but tonight was not the case i sat there and fidgeted with everything possible and got to the point i wanted to disconnect the battery. Im not sure how this issue occurs or what causes this issue. Other than the electrical issues the car runs fine, don't recommend letting it sit out in negative temperatures it doesnt enjoy starting in the cold. But runs very well drives well especially long distances. Gas mileage is good, fill it maybe once a week, drives really well in winter drove through 8 inches of snow without getting stuck. Very good car would recommend!

It was an OK car, good for its priceThis car has given me a bit of trouble at 185,000 miles, but before that it was fairly reliable with regular maintenance. I think I am ready for a new car before my next deployment.

Simple, Cheap, Reliable CarGreat car overall. Reliable when you keep up with basic maintenance. Basic interior, but it's perfect for first time drivers. Good gas mileage and pretty comfortable on long trips.

A CamryI bought a 2006 Hyundai tucson in Florida & I brought it to Boston in the spring .the car never saw a flurry of snow. I get a letter in the mail & I was told there was a recall because they never sprayed the undercarriage with a rust proof application & I spent a horrible winter huge storms & the undercarriage started 2 decay because Hyundai took there sweet time telling us. People want Florida cars because of the rotting process is slower.i told the corp.that they cost me money on the resale .they did nothing in return. I am having all kinds of undercarriage problems in the rain don't buy a 2096 or a Hyundai at all .

HYUNDAI TUCSON WAS GOOD TO ME!!I loved driving it. I'm a corolla guy and currently own one so I'm selling the SUV. It's fun to drive. Steers awesome, sounds good w the dual exhaust. Acceleration feels good. Comfy inside, heated seats boom. It caught me off guard when I bought it, much better and more reliable than I assumed it would be. Whoever buys one will have a nice vehicle for a while.

Was good so I thoughtWell didn't think I would be here so soon. I've had my tucson for a year now, I went out to start and there was nothing. Replaced battery/starter still nothing. So I had it towed to hyundai only to have them tell me, the engine locked. There were only 165,000 miles on it and I had regular oil changes. I was told the check engine light was not a concern, but maybe they were wrong. So now I am searching again praying that the Good Lord will lead me to a great dependable car, that will last for years to come.

Decent Work VehicleBought this car more for function than form. I put a lot of miles on a car everyday, so I just want to be comfortable and get good gas mileage. This vehicle pretty much does that. Not great on ether aspect, but not bad either.
