The 2011 Hyundai Tucson marks the second generation of this compact crossover SUV. Introduced to the US market, the Tucson offered a more stylish and fuel-efficient alternative in the crowded SUV segment. Key trims included the GL, GLS, and Limited. Its sleek design and generous features for the price point contributed to its popularity. Original pricing ranged roughly from $19,000 to $25,000. Its modern styling set it apart.
The Good

The 2011 Hyundai Tucson offers a compelling blend of practicality and style. Its attractive design and comfortable interior appeal to emotional buyers. From a practical standpoint, it boasts decent fuel efficiency, a spacious cargo area, and a generally affordable price point. While not a performance powerhouse, the Tucson provides adequate power for daily driving. It's a solid value proposition.

The Bad

Potential weaknesses of the 2011 Hyundai Tucson include reported issues with the transmission, particularly hesitant shifting. Suspension components can also wear prematurely, leading to noises. The interior materials, while aesthetically pleasing, might not be the most durable. Be sure to inspect for any signs of corrosion, especially in areas with harsh winters. Oil consumption has also been reported by some owners.

What Problems Does the 2011 Hyundai Tucson Have?

Frequently reported problems with the 2011 Hyundai Tucson include issues with the automatic transmission. Some owners have reported rough or hesitant shifting, particularly at lower speeds. There have also been reports of premature wear in the suspension components, such as struts and bushings, which can lead to clunking noises. Another area of concern is potential oil consumption, with some owners noting that the engine requires frequent oil top-offs. The Theta II engine, used in some models, has been subject to recalls for potential engine failure due to manufacturing debris. Check the VIN for any outstanding recalls related to the engine or other components. Some owners have reported issues with the paint fading or peeling over time, particularly in warmer climates. The Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system has also been reported to fail in some instances. The 2011 model year, being an earlier production year for this generation, tends to have more reported issues compared to later years. Thoroughly inspect the vehicle's maintenance history and conduct a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic to identify any potential problems.

How long will the 2011 Hyundai Tucson last?

With diligent maintenance, a 2011 Hyundai Tucson can realistically reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. Lifespan largely depends on adherence to the recommended service schedule. Neglecting oil changes and other preventative maintenance can significantly shorten its lifespan. Long-term durability can be impacted by the transmission issues mentioned earlier. Suspension components may require replacement after 7-10 years. Corrosion can also be a factor, especially in regions with road salt. Proper care and timely repairs are crucial for maximizing its lifespan. Some owners have reported exceeding 250,000 miles with consistent upkeep.

11 tuscon limited front wheel drive, loaded. gas mileage horrible took it into dealer and they said everything was fine, trans seems to use alot of engine breaking when you let off the gas pedal, asked if they could calibrate the ECU to change shifts so the SUV would coast more, so inturn better gas mileage< they looked at me like i was crazy. engine feels like 105 HP not 175, unless you tac out the RPM's. body panels are thin and dent easy, for limited it should have top of the line factory, I have seen macco paint jobs better than this that hold up under the elements. also look under the rear tire, you can see the speed sensor cable which breaks in half anytime road debree hits it. 400 to fix warranty does not cover design flaws. recomend chevy or ford

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2011 Hyundai Tucson offered a decent level of technology for its time. Standard features included a six-speaker audio system with CD player, satellite radio capability, and auxiliary input jack. The GLS trim added Bluetooth connectivity for phone calls, while the Limited trim offered a premium audio system and optional navigation system with a rearview camera.

Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles. ABS and electronic stability control were standard across all trims. Higher trims offered features like hill-start assist.

Safety features included front, side, and curtain airbags, along with active head restraints.

The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) gave the 2011 Tucson an overall safety rating of 4 out of 5 stars. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) awarded the Tucson its "Top Safety Pick" designation. Optional features depended on the trim level selected. Overall, the 2011 Tucson provided adequate safety and technology for its class and era, especially on the higher trim levels. The availability of Bluetooth and optional navigation were pluses, but driver-assistance features were not as advanced as current models.

2011 Hyundai Tucson Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2011 Hyundai Tucson ranged from approximately $19,000 for the base GL model to around $25,000 for the fully-equipped Limited trim. In today's used market, prices generally range from $5,000 to $10,000, depending on condition, mileage, and trim level. Depreciation has been significant due to age and mileage. Factors affecting resale value include maintenance history, accident-free status, and geographical location. Models with lower mileage and well-documented maintenance records command higher prices. Rust or mechanical issues severely impact resale value. Original MSRP and trim level also influence used pricing.

2011 Hyundai Tucson Cost of Ownership

The 2011 Hyundai Tucson is generally considered economical to own. Insurance costs are typically average for its class. Fuel economy is reasonable, especially for the front-wheel-drive models. Routine maintenance, such as oil changes and tire rotations, is affordable. However, potential transmission or suspension repairs can increase long-term ownership costs. Parts availability is generally good. Overall, the Tucson offers a balance of affordability and practicality, but potential repair costs should be factored in.

2011 Hyundai Tucson Insurance

Insurance for a 2011 Hyundai Tucson is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Wagon with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2011 Hyundai Tucson Compare to Other Wagon?

The 2011 Hyundai Tucson competed with vehicles like the Honda CR-V, Toyota RAV4, and Ford Escape. In terms of performance, the Tucson's engine options were adequate but not as powerful as some competitors. The CR-V and RAV4 generally offered better reliability reputations. Feature-wise, the Tucson was competitive, particularly in higher trims. However, the CR-V and RAV4 often held their value better. Price-wise, the Tucson was typically more affordable than the CR-V and RAV4 when new.

Compared to the Ford Escape, the Tucson offered a more modern design and potentially better fuel economy, but the Escape had more engine options.

Alternatives to consider include the Mazda CX-5 (for better handling and driving dynamics) or the Subaru Forester (for standard all-wheel drive and strong safety ratings). The Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are also strong alternatives due to their long-term reliability and resale value, but they often come at a higher price point. The Kia Sportage, being a corporate cousin to the Tucson, is a similar alternative to consider. Inspect all vehicles thoroughly before purchasing.

Ranks #965 SUV

Final Verdict: Is the 2011 Hyundai Tucson a Good Wagon?

The 2011 Hyundai Tucson is a decent option for budget-conscious buyers seeking a compact SUV with a stylish design and reasonable features. It's ideal for individuals or small families prioritizing affordability over outright performance or the most established reliability. It's worth buying *used* if a thorough pre-purchase inspection reveals no major issues. The GLS or Limited trims offer more features and may be a better value. Be prepared for potential maintenance costs associated with an older vehicle. If long-term reliability is paramount, consider alternatives with stronger track records, even if they cost more upfront.

Safe, Reliable, & Wonderful!

My family and I purchased this car for my mother and me to share. It will be primarily my own when my mother gets a car she is in love with. It's great in the snow, and wonderful for trips to cities an hour drive away. Best part? It's extremely safe. My family and I were rear-ended on the interstate. Nobody in our car was physically injured, and the damage was repairable. For that reason, I am grateful my family and I drive this vehicle.

LOVE MY HYUNDAI!

It's so cute and runs really well. I always get compliments on how nice it is. Runs rough in the snow but it's not a FWD. If you're looking for an everyday run around vehicle this is it. I spend about $60 a month on gas.

Best Used SUV I've ever purchased!

It us a really nice used vehicle. It was well maintained, and was an excellent value! I purchased this as a second vehicle to save miles on my newer leased vehicle, and I have to say, for a 2011, it is a great SUV!
