The Good
The 2020 Jeep Renegade offers a unique blend of Jeep capability and urban practicality. Its distinctive, rugged design appeals to emotional buyers, while available 4x4 provides confidence in various conditions. While not the most efficient, it offers adequate performance and reasonable value for its capabilities. Comfort is acceptable for its class.
The Bad
The 2020 Jeep Renegade has some potential drawbacks. The base engine can feel underpowered, and the automatic transmission can sometimes be slow to respond. Fuel economy isn't class-leading. Be aware of potential electrical issues and check for transmission problems during a test drive. Consumer Reports has indicated below-average reliability scores for some model years.

What Problems Does the 2020 Jeep Renegade Have?
Recalls for the Renegade have addressed issues ranging from powertrain problems to faulty airbags, so checking the vehicle's VIN for outstanding recalls is essential. Long-term reliability can be a concern; Consumer Reports has rated the Renegade below average in reliability for several model years, including earlier years which may impact the 2020 model's perception. Potential buyers should carefully inspect the vehicle's history, consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic, and be aware of the potential for transmission and electrical issues. How Does the 2020 Jeep Renegade Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?
Alternatives worth considering include the Subaru Crosstrek for its standard AWD and strong reliability reputation, the Honda HR-V for its spacious interior and reliability, and the Mazda CX-3 for its sporty handling. If off-road capability isn't a priority, these alternatives often provide better value and reliability. For those needing true off-road prowess in a subcompact, the Renegade Trailhawk remains a compelling choice, but be aware of potential reliability concerns.

Final Verdict: Is the 2020 Jeep Renegade a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

Worst Car I've Ever OwnedI've had nothing but problems. I'm at 55,000 miles and it completely died. The first year was spent fighting the start/stop system not functioning correctly. Regardless of your opinion on S/S, the system should work as designed. Because it constantly showed S/S not ready: battery charging, I believe I was having parasitic drain on my main battery. Then, my app started popping messages about powertrain issues. I moved away from the dealership where I bought it, and the nearby dealership was unable to find any issue. I no longer get ANY messages through the app; it seems like the solution was to turn off notifications... Recently, I'm getting an overheat warning within 10 mn of vehicle start up in 30 deg MN weather, after gas ups, on acceleration onto highways. Before I can even pull off the highway, it returns to normal temp. Once, this was accompanied by catastrophic check engine light, start/stop system warning, and significant misfires. Took to dealer, they flashed the PCM. Two days after picking up, same story with the overheating. After a week of random overheats (with continuous fluid top-offs), it refused to restart. All this in 55,000 miles. My first Jeep. Worst car experience. Won't buy another Jeep.

Fun driving vehicleComfortable ride, I enjoy the driving experience. Although not the greatest gas mileage, it is fun to drive. I am waiting to drive it in the snow.

Best car I have ownedMy favorite vehicle I have owned and I am 62! I have Latitude trim with the Winter warmth package. Have owned for almost a year now and still love it and issues. Actually I wasn't very impressed with the base sound system so upgraded that at car toys which was well worth it for me. Other than love it it . Averaging 29 mpg mixed.
