What Problems Does the 2006 Nissan Murano Have?
Power steering problems, including leaks and pump failures, are also relatively common. Suspension components, such as struts and control arms, can wear out, leading to noisy rides and compromised handling. Rust can be an issue in regions with harsh winters and road salt use. Check undercarriage and body panels for corrosion. Recalls for the 2006 Murano have addressed issues such as potential fuel leaks and problems with the anti-lock braking system (ABS). Owners should verify that all applicable recalls have been performed. Long-term reliability is a concern due to the aforementioned CVT issues. Proper maintenance and careful inspection before purchase are highly recommended. Some earlier model year Muranos (2003-2005) had similar transmission issues, so it's essential to be aware of the car's history.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?
Safety features included anti-lock brakes (ABS), front and side airbags, and Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC) – Nissan’s electronic stability control system. Optional safety features included traction control. Driver-assistance features were limited compared to modern vehicles; there were no adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, or blind-spot monitoring systems available.
Crash test ratings from the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) are generally good for the 2006 Murano. It typically scored well in frontal and side-impact crash tests. The IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) also conducted tests, and the Murano generally received good ratings for frontal offset and side-impact crashworthiness. However, it is important to remember that safety standards and testing procedures have evolved significantly since 2006, so newer vehicles offer a higher level of protection.

How Does the 2006 Nissan Murano Compare to Other Wagon?
Given the Murano's reliability concerns, particularly with the CVT transmission, the Toyota Highlander or Honda Pilot are often considered better alternatives for long-term ownership, offering superior reliability and resale value. If you're looking for a similar vehicle with a focus on sportiness, consider a newer Mazda CX-5 or CX-9 (but research their reliability history). If budget is a primary concern and you're willing to accept the risk, a well-maintained 2006 Murano could be a decent option, but a thorough pre-purchase inspection is crucial.

When one part breaks, begins domino effect. This vehicle has amazing interior space which was the selling point. Unfortunately in a 2 month span it's fallen apart. The thermostat, radiator, ac compressor, serpentine belt, alternator, driver seat motor, rear door hydraulics, and driver window regulator have all gone bad. When changing the spark plugs I found the back 3 tube seals failed and they can't be individually replaced, the entire valve covers have to be purchased. Now, just 6 weeks after all that, the car needs a valve adjustment and something has gone wrong in the front suspension, to be diagnosed. The vehicle just now has 130,000 miles on it and has been well maintained, but for a foreign vehicle, it has disappointed! This was my first and last Nissan!

Reliable car for a bargainThis car as reliable for my family and I to travel to South Carolina and back and helped me and my newborn son stay warm and safe this last winter. The heated seats are a real gem, as MN is FREEZING!!

This has been a great family vehicle. This car has been extremely comfortable for our family with plenty of legroom in the front and back. Lots of cargo space and the above average gas mileage made for a great travel vehicle. The tinted windows are great in the strong sun in Colorado. The AWD was necessary for several snow storms this winter and got us through two of the worst storms we've had in years. This car has a timing chain instead of a timing belt, so no need to change it out. A major plus feature.
