What Problems Does the 2016 Nissan Murano Have?

The 2016 Nissan Murano has faced some frequently reported problems, primarily concerning its Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT). Some owners have reported issues such as shuddering, slipping, and premature failure. These CVT concerns are common across several Nissan models that utilize this type of transmission. Routine maintenance, including regular fluid changes for the CVT, is crucial to mitigating potential problems. There have been some recalls for the 2016 Murano related to issues such as brake system malfunctions and potential fuel leaks. Long-term reliability concerns revolve mainly around the CVT's durability over extended mileage. Other reported issues include problems with the infotainment system, such as screen freezing or malfunctioning, and occasional electrical issues. Prospective buyers should review the vehicle's maintenance history and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic to assess the condition of the CVT and other critical components. Check for any outstanding recalls before purchasing.

How long will the 2016 Nissan Murano last?

With good maintenance, a 2016 Nissan Murano can reasonably be expected to reach 150,000-200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. However, the CVT is a key factor impacting longevity. Regular CVT fluid changes (every 30,000-60,000 miles) are vital. Neglecting this maintenance can significantly shorten the transmission's lifespan. Other areas to monitor include suspension components and potential rust in regions with harsh winters. Overall durability is average for its class, contingent on proactive maintenance.

Purchased in 2019. After looking for a vehicle for quite sometime, I had a rental visiting my son. Wow. It was nice. Researched, found a white with tan interior. Leather seats. Low miles on this 16 sl. If you have back issues. Try this. 2016. 18 inch tires. Put a soft cover on wheel. 2 years and it’s great. 42k now, purchased with 24k.

Most uncomfortable interior I've ever road in. Has no cubbies for your phone or wallet. None! Windows noise is ridiculously loud and feels like my head is bout to hit the roof.

It's quiet, strong, spacious (4 large adults easy) and super comfortable. And, it still looks really cool.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2016 Nissan Murano offers a decent array of tech, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard features include a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and a six-speaker sound system. 2016 Nissan Murano Prices and Market Value

The 2016 Nissan Murano had an original MSRP ranging from approximately $30,000 to $41,000, depending on the trim level and options. Current used market prices typically range from $12,000 to $22,000, contingent on mileage, condition, and trim. The Murano has experienced typical depreciation for its class. Factors affecting resale value include vehicle condition, mileage, maintenance history, and the prevalence of CVT-related issues. Models with lower mileage and a clean maintenance record generally command higher prices. Color and trim level also influence resale value.

2016 Nissan Murano Cost of Ownership

The 2016 Nissan Murano generally has moderate insurance costs. Fuel costs are average for a mid-size SUV with a V6 engine. Maintenance costs are also moderate, but potential CVT repairs can significantly increase long-term ownership expenses. Regular maintenance, especially CVT fluid changes, is crucial to avoid costly repairs. Overall, the Murano is neither exceptionally economical nor excessively costly to own, but the potential for CVT issues should be factored into the budget.

2016 Nissan Murano Insurance

Insurance for a 2016 Nissan Murano is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2016 Nissan Murano Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2016 Nissan Murano competes with vehicles like the Ford Edge, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. In terms of performance, the Murano's V6 engine is adequate but not as sporty as some rivals. Features are comparable, with a decent array of tech and comfort options, though the infotainment system can feel dated. Reliability is a concern due to potential CVT issues, where the Hyundai Santa Fe and Jeep Grand Cherokee offer more confidence in long-term reliability depending on engine choice (avoiding certain V6/automatic combinations in the Grand Cherokee known for issues). Price-wise, the Murano is generally competitive. The Ford Edge offers a sportier driving experience. The Hyundai Santa Fe provides a strong value proposition with a longer warranty and often better reliability ratings (though earlier models had engine issues). The Jeep Grand Cherokee offers more off-road capability and a more rugged image. If reliability is a top priority, consider the Hyundai Santa Fe. If a sportier driving experience is desired, the Ford Edge is a good alternative. However, if you value design and interior comfort, the Murano remains a compelling option, provided a thorough inspection of the CVT is performed before purchase.

Final Verdict: Is the 2016 Nissan Murano a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2016 Nissan Murano is ideal for buyers prioritizing style, comfort, and a near-luxury experience at a non-luxury price point. It's worth buying as a used vehicle if a thorough pre-purchase inspection, especially of the CVT, is conducted. Aim for models with well-documented maintenance records. The SL and Platinum trims offer the best value with their added features. If reliability is a primary concern, consider alternatives. However, if the CVT checks out and the price is right, the 2016 Murano can be a comfortable and stylish choice for daily driving.

Believe What They Say

I really like my car and was told by others that when it's gets to 100,000 miles it dead in the water. They were correct....104 000 miles and now it needs over $5,000.00 worth of work. They car was basically at home every day except for trips. I've had my Dodge for 13 years and have never had these kinds of problems. Will never buy another one

Took a crash like a champ

I’ve owned this car for 5 years and have loved it. I was in a rear end accident where the car went under me and the car took that damage. After getting it back from the auto shop I’ve driven it for 4 years with no issues. The guy in the Lexus said he would buy one based on how well my car took that accident. Super comfortable to drive, good cameras and blind spot.

Nice midsize suv

I love it! It’s very nice inside. The outside could be better but I like it enough to buy it and I’m glad I did. Regular gas instead of premium is a huge plus. Loaded with options because it’s the platinum edition!
