The 2015 Nissan Murano represents the third generation of Nissan's stylish crossover SUV. Introduced in 2002, the Murano has always aimed for a more premium and design-focused approach compared to its rivals. The 2015 model, available in trims like S, SV, SL, and Platinum, boasts a distinctive exterior and a comfortable interior. New pricing ranged from around $30,000 to $40,000. Its popularity stems from its blend of comfort, unique styling, and available technology.
The Good

The 2015 Murano offers a smooth and comfortable ride, a stylish and upscale design (emotional appeal), and a well-appointed interior. Its V6 engine provides adequate power. Practical advantages include reasonable fuel efficiency for its class and a good amount of cargo space. While reliability can be a concern (see below), many owners find it a good value proposition if properly maintained.

The Bad

The 2015 Nissan Murano's main weaknesses revolve around its continuously variable transmission (CVT), which has been known to experience issues. Watch out for transmission slipping, shuddering, or unusual noises. Electrical problems and sensor failures have also been reported. Thorough pre-purchase inspection is crucial, including a detailed check of the CVT's health and service history.

What Problems Does the 2015 Nissan Murano Have?

The most frequently reported problem with the 2015 Nissan Murano, and generally with this generation, is transmission failure related to the Xtronic CVT. Symptoms include slipping, hesitation during acceleration, shuddering, and unusual noises. Repair costs can be significant. Some owners have also reported issues with the infotainment system, including freezing, slow response times, and connectivity problems.

Other reported problems include electrical issues, such as sensor failures (oxygen sensors, ABS sensors), and issues with the climate control system. Premature brake wear has also been noted by some owners.

Recalls for the 2015 Murano have addressed issues such as problems with the anti-lock braking system (ABS), which could increase the risk of a crash, and potential fuel leaks due to faulty fuel pump components. Always check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information.

Long-term reliability concerns primarily focus on the CVT. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes at shorter intervals than recommended by Nissan, may help to prolong the transmission's life, but it's not a guarantee. Potential buyers should thoroughly inspect the vehicle's service history and consider a pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic specializing in Nissan vehicles and CVT transmissions.

How long will the 2015 Nissan Murano last?

With proper maintenance, a 2015 Nissan Murano can potentially reach 150,000 to 200,000 miles or more. However, the CVT transmission is the primary factor influencing its long-term durability. Owners who diligently perform CVT fluid changes (every 30,000-60,000 miles) and avoid aggressive driving may experience fewer issues. The engine itself is generally reliable. Weaknesses over time often involve the infotainment system, suspension components (struts, bushings), and minor electrical glitches. Rust can also become a factor in regions with harsh winters and salted roads.

So far we like our Nissan Murano. It's a quality, low mileage car. It has enough room for comfort on local or long trips. We like the bells and whistles and enjoy driving it.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2015 Nissan Murano features a decent array of built-in tech for its time. Standard features include a rearview camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and a user-friendly infotainment system with a 7-inch display. Higher trims offer features like navigation, adaptive cruise control, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and a premium Bose audio system.

2015 Nissan Murano Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2015 Nissan Murano ranged from approximately $30,000 to $40,000, depending on the trim level and options. As of late 2023/early 2024, used market prices typically range from around $10,000 to $18,000, depending on condition, mileage, and location. The Murano has depreciated considerably, which is typical for vehicles in its class. Factors affecting resale value include the vehicle's maintenance history (especially CVT servicing), condition, mileage, and the presence of desirable features (e.g., AWD, leather seats, advanced safety tech).

2015 Nissan Murano Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for a 2015 Nissan Murano are generally average for its class. Fuel costs are reasonable, given its V6 engine. However, maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average due to potential CVT issues and the complexity of some of its systems. Long-term ownership costs can be unpredictable, particularly if the CVT requires replacement. Careful maintenance and proactive repairs are crucial to keeping costs manageable. It is not the most economical vehicle to own due to potential repair expenses.

2015 Nissan Murano Insurance

Insurance for a 2015 Nissan Murano is moderately priced, reflecting its status as a Sport Utility Vehicle with strong safety ratings and
reasonable repair costs.

How Does the 2015 Nissan Murano Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2015 Nissan Murano competes with vehicles like the Ford Edge, Toyota Venza, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Jeep Grand Cherokee. In terms of performance, the Murano offers adequate power but isn't as sporty as some rivals. Feature-wise, it generally matches its competitors, offering a good range of technology and comfort features. However, its reliability lags behind the Toyota Venza and Hyundai Santa Fe, which are known for their dependability.

In terms of price, the Murano can be competitive on the used market, but the potential for costly CVT repairs needs to be factored in. The Ford Edge offers a more engaging driving experience. The Toyota Venza (if available in the same model year range) provides superior reliability. The Hyundai Santa Fe also offers a strong value proposition with a longer warranty (when new) and good reliability ratings. The Jeep Grand Cherokee provides greater off-road capability and a more rugged image.

Alternatives to consider include the Toyota Venza, Hyundai Santa Fe, and Ford Edge, particularly if reliability is a primary concern. These alternatives may offer a better balance of performance, features, and long-term dependability.

Final Verdict: Is the 2015 Nissan Murano a Good Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2015 Nissan Murano is ideal for buyers who prioritize style and comfort over outright performance or bulletproof reliability. It's worth buying *used* if you can find one in excellent condition with a meticulously documented maintenance history, especially regarding CVT servicing. A pre-purchase inspection by a trusted mechanic is essential. Higher trims (SL or Platinum) offer more features, but also increase the risk of more complex (and potentially expensive) repairs. If CVT issues are a major concern, consider alternatives like the Toyota Venza or Hyundai Santa Fe. Otherwise, a well-maintained 2015 Murano can provide a comfortable and stylish crossover experience at a reasonable price.

Uh oh!

Something went wrong, please try again later.

I'm a Vietnam Combat veteran, and I'm a disabled retired Truck Driver, and even though I have had two Spinal Fusion, and a knee replacement I don't have any uncomfortable while traveling. on February 28, 2023

The Particular Nissan Murano that I have is fully

The only thing that is a little uncomfortable for the right leg against the lower dash board area, but it's not a big problem I am satisfied with the performance and gas mileage.

Not what I expected

I have owned this car since 2016 and it is probably the worse purchase of a vehicle I have ever made. I have spent over $7000.00 on mechanical issues this past year,2021. I own 2 other vehicles that has given me little to no trouble and each are 2006 vehicles. I would not recommend this vehicle to anyone nor the dealership I purchased it from....
