Frequently reported problems for the 2012 Volvo XC60 include issues with the electronic systems, such as the navigation and infotainment systems freezing or malfunctioning. Some owners have reported problems with the climate control system and occasional issues with the sunroof. Oil consumption can also be a concern as the vehicle ages, particularly in the T6 models. Some owners have reported issues with the automatic transmission, including rough shifting or slipping.

Recalls for the 2012 XC60 were issued for issues related to the fuel pump relay, which could cause the engine to stall. Check the NHTSA website for the latest recall information and ensure any necessary repairs have been performed. Long-term reliability concerns often revolve around the cost of maintaining European vehicles; parts and labor can be more expensive compared to domestic or Japanese brands. Prior to purchasing, a thorough inspection by a qualified mechanic is recommended to identify any potential issues.

How long will the 2012 Volvo XC60 last?

Key to longevity is adhering to Volvo's recommended maintenance schedule, including timely oil changes and fluid flushes. Weaknesses over time often include wear and tear on suspension components, potential issues with the electronic systems, and increased risk of oil leaks. Regular inspection and preventative maintenance can mitigate these issues and extend the vehicle's lifespan.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2012 Volvo XC60 came standard with a decent array of tech and safety features for its time. Standard features include a high-performance audio system with CD player and auxiliary input, Bluetooth connectivity, and Volvo's City Safety system, which automatically brakes at low speeds to prevent or mitigate collisions.

Optional features included a navigation system with real-time traffic updates, a premium sound system, a rearview camera, blind-spot monitoring, and adaptive cruise control. Driver-assistance tech was relatively advanced for 2012, focusing on collision avoidance.

As of late 2023/early 2024, used market prices typically range from $8,000 to $15,000, influenced by mileage, condition, and trim level. How Does the 2012 Volvo XC60 Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle Vehicle?

The 2012 Volvo XC60 competes with vehicles like the Acura RDX, Audi Q5, BMW X3, and Lexus RX. In terms of performance, the T6 XC60 offers competitive power, but the base engine lags behind some rivals. Feature-wise, it offers a good suite of safety technologies but its infotainment system is less modern than some competitors. Reliability is a mixed bag; while Volvo has a reputation for safety, some models have reported electronic issues.

Price-wise, the used XC60 is often more affordable than the German competitors. Alternatives to consider include the Acura RDX for its reliability and value, and the Lexus RX for its comfort and smooth ride. The Audi Q5 offers a more refined driving experience and modern interior, but at a potentially higher price point. For buyers prioritizing safety and a distinctive Scandinavian design at a reasonable price, the XC60 remains a solid choice. However, those seeking superior reliability or a more engaging driving experience may prefer the Acura or Audi options.

Final Verdict: Is the 2012 Volvo XC60 a Good Sport Utility Vehicle Vehicle?

The 2012 Volvo XC60 is a good choice for buyers prioritizing safety, comfort, and a distinctive design. It's worth considering if you find a well-maintained used model with a thorough service history. The T6 offers a more powerful driving experience, but the base engine is adequate for most drivers. A pre-purchase inspection is crucial to identify potential electronic or mechanical issues. It's best suited for those who appreciate Volvo's safety reputation and are willing to accept potentially higher maintenance costs compared to some Japanese competitors. It might not be the best choice for those seeking the most fuel-efficient or technologically advanced crossover.

Meh.

Went form a 2010 Ford Escape XLT to this. Way less cargo room than I'm used to. Hard to see front and back to park. Can't leave the radio on at the drive-in without it shutting down. None of the doors unlock when you open the drivers door. Definitely needs a backup camera but it only has the screen.

No buyers remorse

This is the first time I leave a dealership with no regret over the vehicle purchase. This low mileage vehicle was fairly priced and well detailed. Looks like a newer than it is. Does not have a backup camera or gps but Iโ€™ll learn to manage.

Newly Purchased- Already in Love

I found out I am pregnant a few months ago and we knew it was time to sell my outdated 2006 Honda Civic. I was looking for a safe, reliable car, that could fit all of the baby stuff but didnโ€™t feel like driving around an Escalade. I fell in love with the XC60 immediately, it drives like my dadโ€™s รขโ‚ฌหœ18 BMW X3. Infact, it has many of the same features, but I paid a fraction of the price. While I originally bought it for the safety, there are thousands of other reasons to buy a Volvo and I will never own another brand of car again.

Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee

Combines the best of both worlds: utility and speed. When I set out to buy a new car I was torn between two options, either get a reliable, practical but boring hauler, or get an exciting and fun handling sports car. Well when I drove the XC60 R-design I found both. The car is uber utilitarian with ample trunk space that fits my bike, fold down flat rear seats that allow me to sleep in the back, huge sunroof, very comfortable seats, AWD etc. But this thing flies, thanks to the tuned 325hp engine that pumps out 355 ft of torque. What does that mean? That means the car sprints off the line like a sports coupe with you being pressed into the seats. Low end torque gives you the ability to accelerate fast from a stand still or at slow speeds. Overtaking cars on the highway or merging from ramps is a breeze. Just put your foot down and watch everyone disappear in the rear view mirror.

Very safe and reliable car even at 100,000 miles

Quality, comfort, and reliability I would give the XC60 a 4 out of 5. Very nice vehicle for a 2012 model. Blind spots are next to none. We feel very safe driving it.

Very Reliable these cars are solid

Looks good are like tanks with reliability, less expensive to maintain than a comparable BMW or Mercedes. Volvo is know to not be ostentatious, but yet parked next to the high end cars its fits right in, what better that to no be ostentatious but yet have a nice and safe SUV.

Volvo XC60

Great car -- my second Volvo. The attention to detail is amazing. A solid, stylish vehicle. Highly recommended as smaller SUV. I would buy another one without question.
