The 2014 Volvo XC60 is a compact luxury SUV, part of the first generation introduced in 2008. Key trims include the base, T6, and R-Design. It's known for its focus on safety, comfortable ride, and Scandinavian design. New pricing ranged from approximately $35,000 to $48,000. Its blend of practicality, luxury, and Volvo's reputation for safety made it a popular choice.
The Good

The 2014 Volvo XC60 offers a comfortable and composed ride, appealing to practical buyers. Its elegant Scandinavian design and reputation for safety evoke an emotional connection. Performance is adequate, and while not the most fuel-efficient, it presents reasonable value. Reliability is generally good, contributing to peace of mind.

The Bad

Some potential weaknesses include the infotainment system, which can feel dated compared to competitors. The XC60's fuel economy isn't class-leading. Also, be mindful of potential issues with electronic components. A thorough inspection by a qualified mechanic before purchase is recommended to check for any existing problems, particularly with the transmission and AWD system.

What Problems Does the 2014 Volvo XC60 Have?

The 2014 Volvo XC60 has some frequently reported issues and recalls to be aware of. Common problems include issues with the electronic systems, such as the infotainment screen freezing or malfunctioning. Some owners have reported problems with the transmission, including rough shifting or slipping, particularly in higher mileage vehicles. Oil leaks are also a potential concern, especially around the turbocharger in T6 models.
Recalls have been issued for various issues, including potential fuel pump failures and problems with the airbags. Check the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) website for the most up-to-date recall information.
Long-term reliability concerns can include wear and tear on suspension components, such as bushings and struts. The AWD system may also require maintenance over time. Regular maintenance, including fluid changes, is crucial to prevent major problems. It is essential to obtain a pre-purchase inspection from a trusted mechanic to identify any existing or potential issues before buying a used 2014 XC60.

How long will the 2014 Volvo XC60 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2014 Volvo XC60 can realistically provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles or 10-15 years of service. Longevity heavily depends on adherence to the recommended maintenance schedule, including regular oil changes, fluid top-offs, and timely replacement of wear items. Long-term durability can be affected by the AWD system, which may require more frequent servicing. Weaknesses can emerge in the electronic components and turbocharger (if equipped) as the vehicle ages. Preventative maintenance is key to maximizing its lifespan.

Understated, classy, comfortable, great looking. My favorite car I have ever owned. We have owned several Toyota's, Honda's; VW's, etc. prior. Fun to drive; versatile in all weather conditions.

For our family of 7 (2 parents, 1 kid, 4 dogs), it's the perfect combination of style, safety, performance, and value. It takes us in comfort on car trips, with our bikes to our favorite trails, and gets the dogs to the groomer.
Hooyah1247
The car is fantastic I can?t wait till Volvo comes out with autonomous driving. Hope it can be on other models and sooner than 2020.
Negative Owner Reviews

Very disappointed, very unreliable, oil has leaked every few months to lo level light comes on, costly and time consuming. Originally a dealer told us it was normal for it to leak more than the older ones, which I knew was a lie to began with. Since then low level light comes on every few months or more often, replaced an oil booster pump in 2018, AC compressor in 2018, and now radiator in 2019. Oil light on again. Worst maintenance nightmare we have ever owned.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2014 Volvo XC60 comes standard with features like Bluetooth connectivity, a high-performance audio system, and dual-zone climate control.
Entertainment: The infotainment system, while functional, is less intuitive than newer systems. Optional features include a premium audio system and a navigation system.
Driver-Assistance: Available driver-assistance features include blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning, and adaptive cruise control. These features enhance safety and convenience.
Safety: Standard safety features include anti-lock brakes, stability control, and a full suite of airbags. Volvo is renowned for its commitment to safety, and the XC60 is no exception.
Crash-Test Ratings: The 2014 Volvo XC60 generally received high crash-test ratings from the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) and NHTSA. Check these organizations' websites for specific ratings.
The emphasis on safety, combined with available driver-assistance technologies, makes the XC60 a strong contender in its class. However, the infotainment system could feel dated compared to some rivals.

2014 Volvo XC60 Prices and Market Value

The 2014 Volvo XC60 had a new price range of approximately $35,000 to $48,000, depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices typically range from $10,000 to $20,000, depending on mileage, condition, and location.
The XC60 has depreciated significantly over time. Factors affecting resale value include mileage, condition, maintenance history, and trim level. Models with lower mileage, a clean title, and complete service records will command higher prices. Demand for SUVs also influences resale value. Volvo's reputation for safety helps to maintain some value, but it generally depreciates more than some of its competitors.

2014 Volvo XC60 Cost of Ownership

Owning a 2014 Volvo XC60 can be moderately expensive. Insurance costs are generally average for a luxury SUV. Fuel costs can be higher, especially with the T6 engine. Maintenance and repair costs can be above average, particularly for specialized Volvo parts and service. Long-term ownership costs are influenced by potential repairs to the electronic systems and AWD components. It is not the most economical vehicle to own, but proper maintenance can mitigate some of the higher costs.

8 years and still rolling without a hitch.

8 years later we still love this vehicle. We plan on driving it until it goes to the junk heap. The dealership in Edmonton is excellent and this is an SUV made for cold Alberta winters. Volvo makes a great realiable car.

Handles snow, ice, sleet

This is my first Volvo, which I purchased for safety reasons after I was the victim of a bad car accident in my Mercedes SUV. This XC60 is amazing for bad road conditions and is fun to drive to the mountains in snowy conditions for skiing. The safety ratings are high, and it handles well for a powerful crossover.

Comfortable, full of safety features!

All around has enough technology but not too much. I can configure dashboard to show numerical speed instead of a dial speedometer. It came with winter package, heated front and rear seats, heated windshield, steering wheel, outside mirrors and washer nozzles. Also has AWD witha 6 cylinder engine. It?s sporty but not as agile as an Audi Q5. It has over 100,000 miles and drives like new!

Best Car I've ever owned

I can't keep up with all the bells and whistles that come with this car. Keyless entery, push button start, voice actuation. I never have to take the key out of my pocket, start it, lock it, open lift gate even when locked. Too many features to list. Even got a free trip to Sweden to get it along with 2 weeks of road insurance to drive Europe before shipping it free to the states.
