What Problems Does the 2022 Volvo XC60 Have?

The 2022 Volvo XC60, while generally reliable, has experienced some frequently reported problems. Some owners have reported issues with the infotainment system, including slow response times, glitches, and difficulty connecting to Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. Electrical issues, such as sensor malfunctions and problems with the car's various electronic systems, have also been noted.
While not extremely widespread, there have been some reports of issues with the mild hybrid system in the B5 and B6 engines. These include problems with the starter generator and related components. It's essential to check for any relevant Technical Service Bulletins (TSBs) related to these issues. Recalls for the 2022 XC60 have been issued for various safety concerns, including issues with the automatic emergency braking system and seatbelt pretensioners. Check the NHTSA website for the most up-to-date recall information.
Long-term reliability concerns center around the complexity of the vehicle's systems. The increased reliance on electronics and advanced driver-assistance systems can lead to potential issues down the road. Regular maintenance and addressing minor problems promptly can help mitigate these concerns. It is important to keep track of and address these to maintain its long-term reliability.

How long will the 2022 Volvo XC60 last?

With regular maintenance, a 2022 Volvo XC60 can reasonably be expected to last for 150,000 to 200,000 miles, or approximately 10-13 years of service. Proper maintenance, including timely oil changes, fluid checks, and addressing minor repairs promptly, is crucial for longevity. Potential long-term weaknesses include wear and tear on suspension components, potential issues with the complex electronics, and possible degradation of the hybrid battery pack in the T8 Recharge models. Rust is generally not a major concern with modern Volvos due to their improved corrosion protection.

Paul B.
Had the car towed twice. Issues with the computer and battery. Very disappointing. I know this will hurt my resale value - but I leased it and can’t wait for the lease to be over. Volvo did not care and neither did the dealer - Gunther Volvo in Delray Florida. I have purchased / leased 8 Volvos and they treated me like xxxx. Never again .

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2022 Volvo XC60 boasts a suite of advanced technology, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard tech includes a 9-inch Sensus Connect touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. Optional features include a Bowers & Wilkins premium sound system. Driver-assistance features are comprehensive, encompassing lane keeping assist, blind spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, and automatic emergency braking. Adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist, Volvo's semi-autonomous driving system, is also available.
Safety is a Volvo hallmark. The XC60 comes standard with numerous airbags, stability control, and a whiplash protection system. Optional safety features include a 360-degree surround-view camera and park assist pilot. The 2022 Volvo XC60 has achieved excellent crash-test ratings from both the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) and the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety), earning a Top Safety Pick+ award from the IIHS. Its robust safety features and strong crash-test performance contribute to its reputation as a safe and family-friendly vehicle. The Sensus Connect infotainment, while functional, has been criticized for its complexity and can sometimes be slow to respond.

2022 Volvo XC60 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2022 Volvo XC60 ranged from approximately $43,000 to $70,000, depending on the trim and options. As of late 2023/early 2024, used market prices typically range from $35,000 to $55,000. Depreciation is moderate compared to some luxury SUVs, but can vary based on mileage, condition, and trim. Lower mileage, excellent condition, and desirable trims like the R-Design and Inscription hold their value better. The plug-in hybrid models may depreciate slightly faster due to battery degradation and evolving technology.

2022 Volvo XC60 Cost of Ownership

The 2022 Volvo XC60 tends to be moderately costly to own. Insurance premiums are generally higher than non-luxury vehicles. Fuel costs are average for the class, particularly for the non-hybrid models. Maintenance and repair costs can be higher than average due to the vehicle's complexity and the higher labor rates associated with Volvo dealerships. Parts can also be more expensive. While not excessively costly, it's not the most economical choice in its segment.

Great car.

Great car. I compare it with a high-end Mercedes that I own, Volvo is generally better built, more comfortable especially on extra long trips, quieter on the road, and intuitive in most use cases. The Bowers and Wilkins sound system is definitely superior to anything I’ve heard in high-end vehicles. The interior design is minimalistic, and the car lacks the prestige that comes with the price. From a reliability stand point, it has never put us down, and has almost completely overcome the early Goole system glitches.

Amazing Car

Just crossed two years and 25,000 miles. LOVE this car. The Google infotainment is well-designed and super easy to access and use. There are redundant options for navigation and I believe the instrument cluster is one of the cleanest and best I've experienced. I have the B5 AWD and acceleration and go is very quick and the car rides effortlessly. The lane keeping and lane centering and semi-autonomous driving on major roads is unobtrustive and quite pleasant. I drove six hours in a rainstorm and the car was more effective at tracking the lane markers than I was. Handling could maybe be more sporty. The 2nd row is very comfortable too. Outside of some early infotainment gremlins that first six months from the new Google system, zero issues of any kind.

Unreliable New Vehicle

My brand new 2022 Volvo XC60 B5 is a nightmare! The car has left me stranded when the entire care decides to shut down on the highway. Volvo says it’s not their fault, it’s a system glitch with the new Google operating system. My screen turns off in the middle of driving and I lose air conditioning, GPS, and radio. You take it to get serviced at the dealer, they are so overwhelmed with so many issues with the Google operated Volvo’s they never have loaners. It’s a true nightmare! My cousin also has a new 2023 with the same issues. Trust me, save yourself the headaches and stay away

Not like my other Volvo

I've had software trouble with this XC60 B5 since new, and now with 6,000 miles. Been in service twice in last couple months...all electronics Infotainmat systems and drivers dash display errors and not functioning at times. My previous Volvo S80, which I took overseas delivery was FANTASTIC . No dealership visits other than oil, tires, brake pads in 14yrs, and 115,000 mi ! This one isn't even 1yr old, they know me by first name I think. However, this new XC60 is a true joy to be driving when it works. Was thinking of trading my Caddy, but won't because I need a vehicle that works.
