What Problems Does the 2020 Volvo XC60 Have?

Frequently reported problems for the 2020 Volvo XC60 often revolve around the infotainment system. Owners have cited slow response times, glitches, and connectivity issues with the Sensus Connect system. Some have also reported problems with the automatic emergency braking system, including false activations.

Recalls for the 2020 XC60 have included issues related to the fuel pump, which could potentially lead to engine stalling. Other recalls have addressed problems with the automatic emergency braking system and the driver's side airbag. It's essential to check the vehicle's VIN with the NHTSA database to confirm whether any recalls apply and if the necessary repairs have been performed.

Long-term reliability concerns generally center on the complexity of the vehicle's electronics. Issues with sensors, control modules, and the hybrid system (on T8 models) are potential concerns as the vehicle ages. Regular maintenance, including software updates, is crucial to mitigating these risks. Some owners have also noted that the turbocharged and supercharged engines can be more prone to oil consumption over time. Given the complexity of the hybrid powertrain on T8 models, long-term battery health and related repair costs should be considered. Thorough inspection and a comprehensive pre-purchase inspection by a qualified mechanic are recommended when considering a used 2020 XC60.

How long will the 2020 Volvo XC60 last?

With proper maintenance, a 2020 Volvo XC60 can reasonably be expected to provide 150,000 to 200,000 miles of service, potentially lasting 10-15 years. Regular oil changes, timely replacement of wear items (brakes, tires, etc.), and adherence to the manufacturer's recommended service schedule are critical. Long-term durability can be affected by the complexity of the electronics and the hybrid powertrain (if equipped). Weaknesses may emerge in the infotainment system, sensor reliability, and potential battery degradation in T8 models over time. Keeping up with software updates is essential to address potential issues.

What Technology & Safety Features are Included?

The 2020 Volvo XC60 is well-equipped with technology, entertainment, driver-assistance, and safety features. Standard features include a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Bluetooth connectivity, and a rearview camera. Higher trims offer features like a premium Bowers & Wilkins sound system, navigation, and a head-up display.

Driver-assistance features are a strong point, with standard features like lane keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, and driver attention monitoring. Optional features include adaptive cruise control with Pilot Assist (Volvo's semi-autonomous driving system), blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert.

Safety is a Volvo hallmark, and the 2020 XC60 reflects this. It comes standard with numerous airbags, stability control, and anti-lock brakes. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awarded the 2020 Volvo XC60 a Top Safety Pick+ rating, indicating excellent performance in crash tests. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) also gave the XC60 a 5-star overall safety rating.

Optional features that enhance safety include a 360-degree surround-view camera, parking sensors, and adaptive headlights. These systems use a combination of sensors, cameras, and radar to provide a comprehensive safety net for the driver and passengers.

2020 Volvo XC60 Prices and Market Value

When new, the 2020 Volvo XC60 ranged from approximately $40,000 to $55,000, depending on the trim and options. Current used market prices vary based on mileage, condition, and location, but generally range from $25,000 to $40,000. The XC60 depreciates at a moderate rate, influenced by factors like mileage, condition, service history, and trim level. Well-maintained models with lower mileage and a clean history command higher resale values. The T8 plug-in hybrid models may depreciate slightly more due to concerns about battery longevity and replacement costs. The demand for luxury SUVs also affects resale value.

2020 Volvo XC60 Cost of Ownership

Insurance costs for the 2020 Volvo XC60 are typically moderate, reflecting its luxury SUV status and safety features. Fuel costs depend on the engine choice, with the T8 plug-in hybrid offering the best fuel economy. Maintenance costs are generally average for a luxury vehicle, but repairs can be more expensive due to the complexity of the electronics and specialized parts. Long-term ownership costs can be higher than some competitors, particularly if major repairs are needed. It is not the most economical choice, but the cost can be justified by its luxury features and safety.

How Does the 2020 Volvo XC60 Compare to Other Sport Utility Vehicle?

The 2020 Volvo XC60 competes with the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Mercedes-Benz GLC-Class, and Acura RDX. In terms of performance, the BMW X3 offers a more engaging driving experience, while the XC60 prioritizes comfort. The Audi Q5 provides a balanced approach. Features are comparable across the segment, although Volvo emphasizes safety technology. Nice car/high maintenance

Enjoying driving my cxc60. I love this car. The disappointments thus far have been that I had to replace tires at 18k! Now I am replacing brakes at 32 k to the tune of $900 / never have I replaced brakes that soon & the brakes actually had been worn down to the metal and broken the rotors - no warning until recently I was hearing an unusual sound - I am probably going to trade this car once the brakes are fixed

Long time coming

Waited a long time to go from a 2010 to a 2020 XC60. There is no comparison to the fit, comfort, and digital experience. The stereo is outstanding. Like night and day. And I really like the older XC60!

My first Volvo

I sold my Toyota RAV4 and purchased a Volvo XC 60. I have been very pleased with the performance of the car. I have to admit I miss the gas mileage of the Toyota RAV4. Some of the detailing of the interior of the car seen a bit cheap. The first time I used the hood latch the trim around the latch handle came loose.I purchased the car because of the safety reputation and history of Volvo.

Safest - Most Intuitive - Beautiful

I have rarely felt a genuine affection for a car. I had a 2013 XC60 before this and technologically, the 2020 is lightyears ahead. You can tell how much thought Volvo put into this car when the Auto Start/Stop feature is so seamless that I have no desire to turn it off. I give all voice commands for everything from climate to Nav to radio so there is no need to take your eye off of the road.

Best car I have ever owned!

This is by far the most comfortable, best looking, and most enjoyable car I have had. Its interior is serene, beautiful, and a great place to be. I love the look of the car inside and out. Its not a sports car, but then it wasnt designed to be, but it drives great with plenty of power.

Comfort with performance

This is my 4th Volvo. I love the size of this SUV! Right before this car I drove a Tahoe so I'm loving the smaller size. I am a realtor and this car is luxurious and comfortable for clients. Having all of the newest technology makes road trips so much more safe and less stressful.

A solid B grade

My wife wanted a car more luxurious than our 2014 Honda CRV. I didn't agree but held my tongue. Bought via Volvo overseas delivery program which includes a discount on airfare to Sweden. In part buying the car was to allow her and one son a trip to Scandavia. I had no interest in going. Pros: Attractive styling in and out. Comfy seats and ride. Car is substantial in size so perhaps good collision protection. Engine, T6 316hp model, is powerful, very responsive, ingenious design. Transmission very smooth shifting at logical points. Enough "trunk" storage. Cons, plenty: Front interior compartment is cramped. Larger bodied and taller people may not fit at all. Ride comfort is somewhat firm befitting an SUV. If you want a land cruiser, move on. Touch screen electronic control of "all things vehicular" is annoying. Takes time to learn it. Operating the screen functions while driving just is not safe! Takes your eyes too far from the road. Far too many electronic this and that functions in this car. Repair bills for these once off warranty could be/will be very high. Our special order paint color has barely any metallic in it. Our CRV stock color is superior, almost metal flake quality. Exterior door handle are made with a metal cover over the mechanical handle. The cover is a bit loose. Weird. Engine compartment: cramped with certain maintainable items oddly and placed lending to difficult use. Many exposed wires that should have been wrapped. Battery in the trunk with MANY wires needing protective wrap. Oh and the first day we had it the hood latch malfunctioned! Volvo makes some odd, industry unusual decisions in many areas of design and function. I would sell this car if given the choice, but my wife loves her new toy. Meh....... Considering purchase? Test drive(s) before you commit. Overseas delivery did save us a true $10k over dealer. Process just takes months to complete.
